well, i finally got a chance to discuss religion with a jw at the door.

i have been looking forward to it for a long time, now i know what questions to ask that will cause them to eat their reasoning book in panic.

but no, there was no long in depth bible discussion.

Actually I was being really gentle because I was looking forward to planting a seed, but it was not to be.

steve2, I have never heard a JW use that expression before either, but if you saw the fear in his eyes when I held a bible in my hand it was priceless. I was a brainwashed JW too at one time, and I hated going door to door, but if I could have a real chat with someone I was glad of it. People have mentioned 'dumbing down' and I agree, but I never realised how poor their 'skills' were these days. Of course, he could be an exception, but I have read similar tales in this forum so I'm not so sure it's isolated.

Well, I finally got a chance to discuss religion with a JW at the door. I have been looking forward to it for a long time, now I know what questions to ask that will cause them to eat their Reasoning book in panic. But no, there was no long in depth Bible discussion. After just a couple of minutes of discussing how John and the Synoptic Gospels cannot even agree on when Jesus died there was no "I'll get back to you on that" or "I'll return with an elder, he's bound to know". Instead he just blurted out 'moron' and walked off.

When I had finished laughing, I began to wonder, what HAS happened to the JW's? Years ago a bible discussion was welcomed at the door - if you got lucky you could prattle on for the full hour and not have to knock any more doors that day - you might even get offered coffee and cake. But now, all they can do is hand out tracts and Watchtowers. Anything more and they get scared to death!

11-year-old niece was told by JW grandmother that she shouldn't play in band

i haven't posted here in a while, but i thought this was worth mentioning, and i just wanted to vent about it.. my brother and sister-in-law, who are now divorced, bought my niece a clarinet about a year ago, so she could play in the band at school.

she loves it more than anything in the world.

one day last week, her grandmother found out about this and got all upset about it.

Many of us are here because we used to be JW's. But how easy it is now to forget that we were slaves to the WT too at one time.

So don't blame the grandmother. She may care a lot for the girl. However, the WT religion has filled her with all this nonsense and she is passing it on, just as many of US may have done in the past.

Don't judge the Witness, one day she may even break free. Judge the religion and its leaders ONLY, IMHO.

The email was written by an illterate. It is very unlikely it is genuine, and " Forward this warning to anyone you know that might Also be in the same situation!' is a typical invitation to pass on spam.

When I was in, JW's could explain their faith. If any come to my door these days all they can do is offer a tract. They have a visible panic attack if I ask a biblical question, and are unable to even begin to answer it. The Org has dumbed down to the point only the dumb remain.

It's just speculation but all the recent changes have pointed/inferred a directional shift to prepare the JWs to a redesignation of the FDS. Until now it is the remnant alive of the 144000, however this causes all sorts of complications and even the average JW thinks the GB is actually the FDS and not just its representative. Since opening up to allow for more members of the 144000 this has caused doctrinal problems having someone a self-appointed member of the FDS yet supposedly not given any special insight or responsibility in the org. If this is what will happen, it is hardly likely to cause a tiny ripple in the ORg., which is just how the GB like doctrinal changes to be. i really doubt any change will be momentous.

That's easy. Rather than show these are false/fake claims, it suits the WT better to infer they really happen. Then they use it as proof there really are demons and that their religion alone has God's protection from them.

As I understand it, the Logians believe only the stated words of Jesus and go so far as to suggest Paul was the apostasy that Jesus warned about. That makes sense to me. Paul's religion is full of rules and judgementalism, and quite different from Jesus' quoted words.

I have spent years in Third-World countries in Asia. The JW's do NOTHING materially to help the poor (I mean as an Org. - some individuals may be kindly). In countries like the Philippines they actually TAKE contributions for the WWW. This is a country where $4 is considered a good daily wage.

It's all quite sad - in a country where most can speak English to some degree, the JWs I have met so far all were unable to, having finished school early. In this country if you don't have 2 years college behind you don't expect to find work that pays. Yet they still spout the JW line here too about avoiding college. They are destroying the future for a generation of JWs - and just like the youths in 1975 (I was one) - Armageddon will not be coming and they will grow old in this system - with nothing.
