Did Jesus resurrect Himself?
by brotherdan inthis is a common scripture, but i find it interesting that it is in direct conflict to jw belief.
john 2:19 says, "jesus answered them, "destroy this temple, and i will raise it again in three days.
" the jews replied, "it has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?

brotherdan,
I had read it prior, but the John 12 and Isaiah 6 connection nearly blew my mind. John was explicit about who Isaiah saw and who he spoke about.

TRINITY Challenge for JW's, Unitarians and Anyone Else
by UnDisfellowshipped intrinity challenge using only the new world translation of the holy scriptures -- let us debate and reason on the scriptures about whether god almighty is a trinity, or is only one person.. on another thread, bane said that we know for a fact immediately that nearly all religions other than jehovah's witnesses are false because almost all of them believe in the trinity.
and bane claims he can "out-scripturize" anyone with the help of jehovah.

Hebrews 8:6 : "But Jesus has now obtained a superior ministry, and to that degree He is the mediator of a better covenant, which has been legally enacted on better promises." (CSB) I'm not seeing anything in Hebrews about Jesus being a "better" Mediator, or the need for such. Strictly speaking about his Mediatorship, the only thing I could think of that would be "better" is that Christ will live for eternity to ensure legal compliance with the new covenant.
Ding : Are you confusing Jesus' role as a Mediator with his role as High Priest?

Three questions :
If Jesus is begotten of God, wouldn't that mean that at some point in the past, he was unexisting? If Jesus has the same nature as God, I would think that would include immortality. Yet, Jesus did not receive immortality until after his resurrection. How can this be?
And yes, Jesus atoned for the entire sin of the world. Yet, (again from a WT view), what was lost was a perfect Man in Adam. Thus, Jesus, being equally a perfect man, could provide an exact replacement for Adam. No?

Chalam,
Agreed that the scriptures say Jesus was begotten. My question though, was how that differs from being created, in terms of not having existence, and then existing at some point in time. This may be an impossible question to answer.
In a legal sense, wouldn't each party of the covenant (God & Humanity) need to be represented equally by an impartial party, who ensures both sides fulfil the terms of the covenant? Like a mediator? How could the covenant be mediated if one party was the same as the mediator?
Coming from a WT perspective, how would a perfect Man not be able to fulfil the requirements of a sinless life, to atone for Adam's life? Why does it need to be a God-man?
Thanks for the info about that sermon. I'll have to give it a listen this morning.

the study conductor reafirmed his point and then continued.. wait a fuggin minute!

And, as mentioned in the DC a couple of years back, *everyone* who dies at Armageddon are judged then and will NOT receive a resurrection and are dead forever. I'm glad they were so clear about this, and that they are so confident in what God will do in the future, as this comment came out during a what-would-be successful fade.
I'm not sure how they can apply Matthew 10:23 to today's preaching work (and there's even been some doubt as to if it does, or not), as that seemed to apply specifically to *that* existing system of things.

The earlier you get there, the more "righteousness" you are earning, and the more "holy" you get to feel. Especially in comparision to all those "weak ones" and slackers who only get there 5-10 minutes before. They clearly aren't as dedicated as you are.

I don't see why being both God and man is a requirement of being "truly able" to mediate a covenant between God and men. All of the bi-lateral covenants between God and humanity in the Bible have been mediated just fine with a human serving as mediator. Why is a God-man a needed requirement for the new covenant?
2nd question : I'm reading Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis and skipped a bit ahead to the part about being begotten versus being created. I understand the difference between the two and the logic displayed, so the question is this :
What do Trinitarians believe are the difference(s) between being "begotten" and being "created," in the sense of not having existence, and now existing? How can a "begotten" Person in the Godhead be uncreated?
