That's a new one to me too.. never heard of that... of course, I'm not quite into reading older, WT pubs from the ancient past just for fun :)

1937 a marked year?
by diamondiiz in"the year 1937 is marked as the year when all power of religion over them was broken ;also the year 1938, when the theocratic arrangement.
was restored in their midst.

Keeping JW's as Friends - Healthy? - New Awake Article
by GOrwell inkidding about that awake article title - i know it sounds like the title of an awake article, please forgive me :).
but seriously, do you think it's healthy to maintain friendships with people who are jehovah's witnesses?
when is it time to "move on," even if they don't seem to want to?.

Believe me, I attempted to let the friendships wither a while ago, even in the most non-contact way possible (without giving away too many details), but they were actually hurt that I wouldn't consider them my friends anymore. This was done in the "but, we still love you/haven't given up on you" somewhat cult-like method.
I don't think they are going to fall away from me, as long as I keep the status quo, which means don't talk about anything religious and don't do anything that would have me labelled as "bad association." I know (from a discussion) that they would like to see me come back to meetings, but there isn't any pressure or emotional blackmail to do so. Although, and maybe I'm being paranoid, I have sneaking suspicion that the reason some of these friends are still friends is to maintain a window into my world, perhaps to gather information that would lead to a DF'ing.
@Wobble/BluesBrother : I have already moved on from the JW's and you're right - these aren't true friendships. I couldn't reveal who I really am or what I really think to them. I don't believe they are aware that my decision is that definitive, yet. I do enjoy the time we spend together, and it is good for my mental stability (everyone needs friends!), but is a friendship genuine/true when there are still conditions on it?
@OTWO/Desirous : I would like to start attending a variety of churches to continue on my quest, and am looking into taking something like the Alpha Course. Whether I could do this 'openly' remains to be seen.
@James_Woods : Interesting.. it sounds like he's in it for completely social reasons.. JW friends are certainly 'easy' to make, but certainly difficult to keep (if they still want you)..

Agreed - I am in a very unusual situation! It would seem these people are not fake.. I've known them for some time now, but I'm sure they're attitude would change if I started attending Church. I can appreciate the "if it's not broke" idea, but would it be better just to cut ties on my own terms, and retain some semblance of emotional control or power?

SOME ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THE NEWBIES AND LURKERS
by palmtree67 ina quote from "crisis of conscience".
don't be afraid to read it.. .
whatever the initial distress - a distress that sometimes follows the demenaing experience of being interogated by men who, in effect strip one of dignity, make the weight of their authority felt, and presume to judge adversely one's standing with god - however torn one may feel inside, afterward there is a distinct feeling of relief, of peace.

I am not DF'd or DA'd or anything, and so far am not considered "bad association" in the (im)moral sense of the phrase, so these folks feel free to still have regular assocation with me. My last meeting was about 4 months ago. I don't have many/any "other" friendships cultivated at all, and am pretty inverted, but am defintely not in the Truth(tm). These friends are not really aware of my current beliefs, if any, and seem to prefer to keep it that way. They aren't really "preachy" at all when we do hang out.
What do you think? Did you "move on" completely, and leave all your friends behind when you left, or did/would you keep them if you could?

The Gentile Times Reconsidered
by Spade indisproving the date 1914 as a significant year in bible prophecy is of great importance to some (e.g.
carl o. jonsson).
along with the meticulous details of bible and secular chronology, broadening one's horizons when assessing exactly what this date represents when compared against the 6000 years of human history likewise has merit.
-

Let me fix that for you..
Spade said :
I don't reject the data and methods by which a date is established, I simply analyze ancient history selectively when coming to conclusions. An examination of the Bible canon shows that its contents measure up to standards of excellence in every respect. I have more confidence in the accuracy of secular chronology if the secular evidence agrees with it.

UN & Watchtower : link deleted....
by yalbmert99 inhi everyone, someone just made me notice that the pdf document on the u.n. website proving that the watchtower associated itself as ngo from 1991(demand) to 2001 has been deleted or is missing.
http://www.un.org/dpi/ngosection/pdfs/watchtower.pdf i sent an email (very short since they don't allow more than 200 characters) to the un to inquire.
i doubt that they'll respond.i suspect that the watchtower pressured the un to deleted that link.....
