I remember watching Dennis the Menace and seeing him put chicklets in the old guys dentures.
I always wondered what they were.
I knid of figured that they were candy of some sort.

Any other churches call themselves the 'truth'??
by Beck_Melbourne inold habits die hard...and quite often in my comments i will refer to the borg as the 'truth'.
does anyone know of any other churches that refer to their own particular church or religion as the 'truth'??
also, does anyone know how it originated...all my life i have used the term...comments like 'how long have u been in the truth?

Hey Beck,
I'm don't know when or why or who, but I'm sure they used to call it the "way" as well.
I like the BORG myself, seems so apt.

Shunning Family Members
by chezza injust wondering if anyone has a similar experience like me, i had to shun certain family members because of their being disfellowshipped and we all know how hard it was, even though we thought we had gods blessing, when i myself was disfellowshipped for confessing my wrongdoing to the elders i felt like i was all alone with no-one to turn to, and interestingly the very family members i had shunned were the first to offer me help, i didnt approach them when i was d/f coz i felt guilty after shunning them but they got in contact with me and helped me through a really dificult emotional time, and the intersting thing here is that gods people are supposed to be forgiving as he is and yet they wouldnt forgive me but my family who were "no longer believers" did, anyone else have a similar story?

Hey Chezza,
There were times when my mother was Df that I would shun her.
I would see her in the street and so as not to make a scene, or feel uncomfortable, I would cross the road rahter than walk straight passed her.
And yet after a while, when she was showing her repentant attitude by going to meetings, I would then call in and see her. Make sure she was doing ok.
It's a tough one, as you don't really know what balance to have and so to be safe you take the hardline approach.
Now that the shoe is on the other foot, my mother is more lenient in her dealings with me.
Although it has been a battle at times, but now she respects my views and I respect hers.
As for my siblings, they know that I am here for them no matter what. The love and care I show them is non-conditional.
They are either out or inactive and so the shunning policy isn't really an issue for them. -

guilt of having to give evidence against family
by chezza inhi all, just wondering if anyone else like me had to give evidence in judical cases involving their family members and how they got over the guilt when they realised what they had done?
-
Kep
Hi Chezz,
I was involved twice in having a family member Dfd.
It was at my discretion to report their activities to the elders.
At that time I felt I was responsible for keeping the cong clean and so both times I did report it.
I remember the 2nd time this person was almost begging me not to say anything.
I do feel guilty for my hardline approach.
It wasn't that they were innocent, but that the JC was very very hard on them.
They went to appeal the decision, only to have to go thru it all with 9 elders.
So they walked.
Beck, obviously your brother knows the borg mentality and let it go, until the time was right to let you know how much he missed and loved you. -

I'm new here
by konkreetgurl inhey everybody, i'm a christian, but i'm not a jehovah's witness and i recently made friends with one, i know little to nothing about this religion and i would like to know more, can anyone help me out by way of how it is different from say, an evangelical free christian church?
and what sort of theology and doctrine jw's go by and such, i'd really appreciate it, thank you
-
Kep
Hi konkreetgurl,
Welcome.
It sounds like you are in a similar situation to Jerome.
As he is involved with a JW, you may find some of the information he has been able to gain from this and other sites helpful.
Enjoy your time here.

Killing Children= Save Organization
by metatron inrecently, the vile, reptilian character of the governing body slipped through their slick propaganda again.. i refer to a recent "new outline/public talk" in which a teenager.
with leukemia is mentioned - and a recent watchtower article.
about special meetings with pictures of gb members - that also.
-
Kep
Yeah Metatron,
I would be in for a read of the outline too.

What will you do?
by YoYoMama inwhat will you do when harmageddon is here?
will you ask jehovah for a second chance?.
will you seek to protect your young children?.

Armageddon.....
You are assuming that this is going to happen in our/your lifetime.
So many people have been living in the last days thinking armageddon will be here.
They've grown old and died.
What makes you think you're gonna see it??It's just a pipe dream. I will be long gone if and when it happens.

Knock Knock...
by KistByQpid ini'd be interested in hearing some of the exjw's door-to-door experiences.
i've probably had the saturday morning door knocking...maybe 6-8 times.
i've never been "rude" except for once...when i had a particularly aggressive pair who wouldn't take "no thank you" for an answer.

Some days were good, and some weren't.
I am one of those people that can talk for an hour to a complete stranger about nothing...
So going from door to door wasn't as bad as it is for others.
You get your rude people, but it's water on a ducks back, you expect those responses.
If you're with a partner, you find the humorous side of it as you carry on down the street.
The times I did have trouble was when working with the co or Service Overseer.
You think they're standing there watching you to see if you are applying all the suggestions given thru the meetings etc...
Most times I enjoyed just talking to people more so than trying to flick the literature off to them.
