CO's & DO's age 70+ to be laid off on 9/1/14

in a private conversation with a c.o.

friend from north carolina, he told me yesterday that they just got a letter that all traveling overseers (do's & co's) age 70 & up are going to be laid off on 09/01/2014.

they will be asssigned to local congregations and further details are pending.. .

Don't worry, they will have Obama Care to fall back on.

In Canada they would qualify for a pension of close to $900.00 per person. Just add that $700.00 to that and put them on the Infirm list and they will be doing a lot better than the average Canadian.

I wish that some of the GB members would have a mandatory retirement. In fact I wish that they would give the GB members a Performance Review, or Job Performance Evaluation. Oh ....sorry...I forgot....That's coming when Jesus comes again to inspect.

EVIDENCE CONVENTION-ATTENDANCES ARE IN DECLINE?

there are many threads on this forum about the stultifying tedium of the conventions.

memories of one convention merge with every other convention over the years with few sticking out as high points.. in recent years, there have been lots of anecdotal reports (primarily from western countries) of an astonishingly low number of baptismal candidates at these conventions, and in particular district conventions - especially compared to the higher numbers who presented for baptisms in earlier decades.

is this decline also reflected in general attendances at the conventions?.

I think that Friday attendance has been declining for quite some time. In our area some choose to break up the days by attending an assembly in another location at a different time. The three days are getting to them

the practice by the romans back in that time was to use a cross.

i've even heard of some witnesses say it was due to "lack of wood.

That's the great thing about democracy. We can wear whatever we want on our necks, heads, belts, etc. It is our right, or our wrong. Either way, we are free to do it.

New Policy on Inactive Ones?

this may have been discussed, but i just recently was told that a km this past year stated that inactive ones are now to be treated as if they are df'd.

No, there is no policy to shun inactive ones. Some in the congregation are jerks, and would shun active JW's. Don't judge the ones that do show respect, and follow the example of Jesus.

I never was a fan of the cross, because of the argument that if your friend was shot but a gun, you really would want that instrument as a jewelry piece to wear around your neck.

The Reasoning book was really weak in providing a argument about the cross because the source they used was from a bious individual.

However, in recent times, a professor, Gunner Samuelson has researched the subject, and he favours the stake as Jesus' form of execution. I have also read over that thread of Leola, and appreciate her deep research, and explanation.

The bottom line is, who knows for sure? We weren't there. Who really should care? Should we really wear it on our necks?

here's my story.

i'm 24 years old and i live in brazil.

i'm a 3rd gen born-in jw and all close relatives in the borg (parents, grandparents, uncles, wife, inlaws) except my little sister (she's 16 and didnt buy jw doctrine).

It's better to be considered a Luke warm JW, than one who is DA'd. It allows you to stay in the family, and at the same time it gives you a time out from expectations.

Anyone see 12 Years A Slave?

has anyone here seen best picture winner 12 years a slave?

it was tough to watch at times, and made me tear up a couple times.

it was a very well written well acted film with great cinematography, and was extremely moving.. i think it was a deserving winner..

usually when world events like this take place the dubs start into how the end must be so close they can almost taste it.

maybe there will be some speculation about the king of the north and south again.

Yes, this a sucky rule, and not written down anywhere. If you you have less than 10 hrs a month in FS, you might as well be wearing a beard.
