One of my favorite experiences ever was when Bro. Barr was the Bethel speaker at one of our District Conventions. He was sitting in the section where I served as an attendant. Just before it was time for the afternoon session t begin a sister walks up and asks is Bro. Barr sitting in this section. I told her that he was and she then asked if it would be alright to take a picture with him. I told her that it would be okay if Bro. Barr said it was. Shortly after that Bro. Barr came walking up the stairs and the sister ran over and asked if she and her husband could take a picture with him. "Certainly my sister!" he said. She then asked me if I would do the honors. As I prepared to snap the picture Bro. Barr stood between the sister and her husband and flashed the biggest smile ever! I was ever so impressed with his humility.
Just a few moments after that another brother who was sitting in the section came up with his two small children and introduced them to Bro. Barr, explaining who he was. Bro. Barr sat down and put the little children on his lap and talked to them. As I observed him I couldn't help thinking about all the pictures we've seen in the publications about Jesus and how approachable he was even with little children. Again, what an impression he made on me. Truly, Christ brothers imitate him in every way! That was the only time I saw him in person, but I will never forget it.

Latest Special Talk in Australia
by jwfacts inno, i don't mean the visit by oprah.. there was a special talk on sunday relayed to all the aussie congs from sydney.
apparently the speaker had an american accent, but was stationed in a latin american country.
he was really pushing field service and pulled out the old one that: if you do not witness you are not one of jehovah's witnesses.

Just a bit more on the watchtower citation that blondie provided. This kind of comment can often be a result of an issue that caused problems. About this same time if memory serves a change was made regarding publishers record cards. It used to be that after six months the person became inactive and the card was removed from the files. That changed to a procedure where the cards of inactive ones stayed in the files, just moved to the inactive section at the back.
and was I am sure the result of new light or tacking in the wind.

I have to side with some who are saying - so what's different, and I say it from personal experience. When my lack of hours led to a report showing only a couple hours, and the arrival of a new harsher elder, all "priveleges" slowly melted away. Not that these were much, helping behind the magazine counter, and reading at the book study and the watchtower. And what was worse for me, the PO (yes it was a few years back) was to uncomfortable about it all that he did not approach and talk to me about it, the "privileges" just disappeared. When I eventually confronted him to see what was going on i found that it was just that the time reports were to low. Because the reasons for the low hours included numerous issues that I was dealing with I tried to talk to him to the point of practically pleading for compassion. But to no avail. Each response, including a couple of shepherding type calls pushed for by me. simply led up to the last one in which I was told that I had lost my "freedom of speech". Yup, tell the brother that you are trying to push for more time time preaching that he has lost the "freedom of speech" Anyway I should not really complain because it really was the beginning of the end for me, and now I don't have to hand in a report at all. So it's all good.

It seems that since Barr has had his heavenly reward fulfilled he has also become more "wakeful" and able from his lofty position to better control the internet. It is reported that he has wrested it out of the hands and control of the man who started it all - Al Gore.

So did Barr die or not
by therevealer inthis from an e_mail site.. governing body member john (jack) barr has died (or, "completed his earthly course") on saturday, december 4, 2010.. bro barr died at walkill aged 97 after 71 years of full time service - 23 years as a member of the governing body in new york ..

I was also getting a kick out of the "or, "completed his earthly course"" comment. Obviously inspired by the silly notion that he went straight to his heavenly reward. But of course they have it so much more correct than christendom.
