Has anyone here noticed that there are other versions of sign language presented on the website (not just American Sign Language)? I saw the Australian and Japanese versions, and I have to say that the way the Japanese handled those difficult signs seem more appropriate for religious discourse (at least to me).

I don't get it. Clearly sign language isn't written in stone; no language is. Languages are always constantly evolving and developing. So why didn't the American deaf community ever come up with signs that are not as vulgar, much in the same way all other languages engage in euphemism when discussing difficult topics?

EDIT: I also think the Italian version is better. Just seems more dignified for some reason.

What's the purpose exactly behind comments like these? Are you an atheist?

When looked at in this light, a lot of things start to make a lot more sense, including further reasons why, perhaps, Jesus is paralleled with the copper serpent who is "lifted up" in the Old Testament. (See John 3)

I'm sorry, but that's just stupid. If anything, the deaf people are achieving equal opportunity at becoming brainwashed the same as anyone else.

It's not the Watchtower Society's fault that deaf people haven't developed an adequate euphemism to convey sexual ideas without pantomiming the specific act, unlike other languages. I'll take every other deaf person's word for it on this forum that the way the Society has used ASL is within reason. Whereas some have stated that the deaf culture is simply more comfortable in conveying sexual ideas than those of us that can hear, which may be true, I think the disconnect may be far more likely due to deaf people not signing concepts like "masturbation" openly, in public.

I'm sorry, but if you make the "jack-off" hand gesture in public, whether you're deaf or not, I'm going to laugh.

As will 99% the rest of the world.

The fact that deaf people haven't developed an appropriate euphemism to deal with this just tells me that they don't do so normally, in public, with other people that can hear.

Dude, just do it. Or don't. I will say this, and it may sound odd to many of you, but I really enjoyed the time I spent preparing for and giving those sorts of talks. It gave me a good taste of public speaking at a young age. I cherish those experiences.

Go do it, you might learn something you enjoy.

Just to make sure I understand, you're saying that you told the man at the house that you thought salvation is a free gift, but that we can act in ways that show appreciation for the gift?

I personally believe that salvation is something that anyone can have, but we can also lose it. (Jude 5 ; Heb.2:3,4; 6:4,6; 10:26,27) We must "endure" in our Christian life (Mt.10:22). If we stop practicing righteousness, or even reject Christ, we will lose it.

While I think the WTS overemphasizes some of the details over others, I don't really think they've gotten the basic framework wrong.

Chief Cornerstone ?

if memory serves me correctly the wto taught/teaches the the "chief cornerstone" metaphor representing christ refers to the stone at the bottom corner of a structure as opposed to the "capstone" (the final stone forming the point or apex of a pyramid).

does anyone know if this is still part of their doctrine?

it seems to me that the capstone (like the image on the back of a dollar bill) is the correct interpritation.
