On Human Evolution
by TD init's a subject that comes up fairly often here (understandably) and very strong opinions are expressed.
much of the discussion seems to be counterproductive.. i'd like to propose a different approach.
we all know what each other's conclusions are (or at least we should by now).

It's not the form of the skull that makes us humans human. It's the breath of Jehovah who made Adam into His likeness as a spiritual, intelligent, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla............
Any authentic fossil that can be used against creationism was deviced and placed by Satan in order to deceive us.

JW superstitions about the memorial -
by james_woods innow that we are all thinking about jw memorial - i was just remembering all the silly superstitions the jws have put around this - their only holiday.
as far as i can tell, none of these are actually biblical:.
1) - it must be held only once per year.. 2) - it must be held on "nisan 14".. 3) - it must be held after sundown.. 4) - the bread must be unleavened.. 5) - the wine must be plain (not fortified) red wine.

At the Memorial, sister Nicelegs used to wear all black and she had her longest dress on. I was unable to see her feet and it was frustrating! Sister Nicelegs' feet kept my meeting attendance during those 2 years at around 95%. And I had such a nice position at almost all meetings, I usually was a bouncer, you know, the JW males who enforce peace and order during service. Me and the other bouncer were the only ones (except the speaker) who could feely move our sights in the whole room, staring at anyone we wanted. If anyone else did that....it was inappropriate. Anyone else: eyes on the speaker and on the emblems. Even during prayer, our duty was to keep our heads straight and to discreetly observe anyone in the room (in case someone might get sick or something).

Old JW Movie
by exwhyzee ini thought this might be worth running again as there are new ones on here that may not have ever known about this.this movie was shown once a year at our hall during the 60's and into the 70's as well.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzfu_vcwqso.

I'd like to see the mugs of some of my ex-brothers when we will be like 75 years old and still living in this "demonic system".

Why This Atheist Respects the Jehovah's Witnesses-And why other Atheists should too!
by RaustBD ini'm an atheist, and i'd like to take some time to talk about why i hold a great deal of respect for the jehovah's witnesses, and some words of encouragement that may put an end to the ridicule and disrespect you seem to get from, well, all sorts of people.. .
i never gave this kind of criticism a second thought: i knew nothing about you, and i figured you were just another fringe group of christianity.
i now feel terrible about this, and i wish to apologize for my (admittedly never spoken) disrespect.

Anyone here have any experience with the "super-natural"?
by Knowsnothing inand if so, would that prove an existence of evil-spirits (demons)?.
i have heard of a couple of stories of possession, or of jw's talking to spiritists and the spiritists having seen 2 men following the jw, either dressed all in black, or all in white, and very strong looking.
yet, i have never experienced any of it.. another experience that i heard is about a brother whose mom had super-natural strength, and tossed something really heavy.

It's plausible. The brain is a complex machinery. Temporary madness is real. The brain can create powerful illusions and, in the case of chronic schizoids, long lasting illusions. We all have moments of autism sometimes.

There is no supernatural. Period. The duty officer found the keys because other people lost them in the same way and they were found in the same way. To look under the seats is a normal thing to do. Lamps do not fly by themselves and spirits do not throw lamps. One of my ex-University-colleagues saw UFOs, spiritual manifestations, he even had meetings with the prophet Muhammad. Guess what, he is schizophrenic. As long as he takes his medication (Rispolept), the visions do not haunt him anymore. And he graduated from the University while being schizophrenic.

The JW funeral talk outline - poor taste or REALLY poor taste?
by Mr. Falcon inso i attended a funeral for a jw who passed away (non-"annointed) and i would have to state that although i have heard the standard funeral talk outline for dozens of funerals i've attended, i never really took the time to listen.
and my god, i was cringing.
the outline is essentially broken down like this:.

In Romania there are public chapels (in fact they are buildings with large rooms) which belong to the municipalities. They are rented for a small sum (around 2.5 $ a day) and you can keep the deceased there and also perform funeral service there until burial. Also, many people prefer to keep the deceased at home, in one of the rooms which is emptied of furniture. It's the same for all, even for JWs. Funeral services at KH are rare here. In my city, in the last years we got the habit of not singing at funerals.
