what is the dumbest thing you've been reproved/chided/df'd for?
by rather be in hades ini'm a big science nerd and i remember when we were going over the creator book, that the big bang doesn't necessarily prove there is no god.. i said this comment during book study and the conductor's jaw dropped.
everyone was pretty uncomfortable and it didn't help that he ct me off as i was explaining the red shift and mom wasn't too happy about all that.
i had to do a lot of bible research and write some nonsense about how the big bang was not reality or some sort...ugh.. .

Jehovah's Witness Dating Advice
by KingAgag ini remember when i was young reading through the "young people ask" book.
i remember thinking, several times, that if i followed all the advice, i'd not have any friends at all.. here's a funny look at the dating advice they give: http://www.jehovahswitnessblog.com/funnies/jehovahs-witness-dating-advice/.

I remember one of my brother's non-witness friend tried to ask me out. The conversation sort of went like this...
Brother's Friend: Do you want to go out some time?
Me: Sorry I can't date anyone who isn't a Jehovah's Witness.
Brother's Friend: What if I became a Jehovah's Witness?
Me: Then we would have to bring a chaperone.
Brother's Friend: Would I have to pay for the chaperone as well?
Me: I don't know...maybe
Brother's Friend: Your religion is expensive and who actually brings a chaperone on a date?
7 years later: My brother's friend got married this year to a nice lady. Now I agree with him that having a chaperone on a date does seem lame...especially if the couple were adults.

How have you fared since leaving the Jehovah's Witnesses?
by God_Delusion inhowdy guys and gals!.
personally, my life has been fantastic.
it's like a massive weight has been lifted off of me, especially when it comes to having to go to the meetings.

To be honest: half good and half bad
the bad: living with a JW family member who makes my life as difficult as possible, starting my social circle from scratch, trying to ignore rumors and gossip spread about me
the good: more free time, less stress wrinkles, less stress weight, get to sleep in on weekend mornings, no more dealing with fake friends, being able to join holidays and birthdays without the awkwardness of being a JW, and no more worrying about breaking god WT's laws or pleasing god WT

Was There Anything You Actually Enjoyed About Being A JW?
by MrFreeze ini'm sure this question has been raised a lot but it is always good to look back.
the last 5 or 6 years of me being a jw, i did not have a very good go of it.
one thing i actually did enjoy was going to the international convention.

Watchtower, Wolverine, and the LIE that every 13-year-old saw RIGHT AWAY...
by Unlearn ini'll always remember this issue of the awake warning jw parents about comic books and why they were so dangerous.. the cover had a kid on the front sitting indian-style reading a comic book, wide-eyed and smiling.
came out in the early 1980's.. i'll always remember it because it screwed up one of my favorite past-times: i was around 13 years old and a hardcore collector.. after this article, it was a continual tug-o-war with my dad over comics....and it lasted until i was 18 and moved out.. .
here's what was telling about that article:.

That wolverine cover does not look like it is connected with spiritism or the occult. This sort of "judge a book by it's cover" thinking makes the WT out of touch with reality.
The same thing happened when the batman movie,"The Dark Knight," came out in 2008.
Hardcore dubs around my area were up in arms about the movie simply because of the title.
Just based on the title, they assumed it was about spiritism and evilness without having any solid proof to back it up.
Poor saps, they missed out on great movie.
I can't wait to see them try to demonize "The Dark Knight Rises" this year.

If you were raised in a home with a JW parent and a non-JW parent: a few questions
by Lady Lee inif you were raised in a home with a jw parent and a non-jw parent: a few questions.. i am going to be addressing the international cultic studies association (icsa) in july at the conference in montreal.
my focus is on 3 groups.
the third group consists of people people who grew up in homes where one parent was a jw and the other wasn't.

- Was your non-JW parent ever a JW?
no - Who was responsible for your religious upbringing? The JW or the non-JW?
Probably both: JW mother, and I also had other "mother" and "older sister" figures in the congregation - Did they argue about it?
no - Were you forced to go?
yes - Did the non-JW parent have any real say in how the family celebrated holidays?
Yup, so it was good bye halloween, thanksgiving, christmas, chinese new year and birthdays - Over all what impact did this split household have on your childhood and even later in life?
Felt bad that if my dad and my entire extended family did not become JW's then they won't be able to live forever in paradise.
So I tried to be as good as possible to "win them over with good conduct."
Unfortunately, i was never able to convert anyone like the examples and experiences.
I was told that the problem was my fault because I was not good enough by God's WT standards...thus damaging my sense of self-worth in the process.
I was also taught to avoid "bad association," including my own unbelieving relatives.
So i spent as little time possible with them.
Years later, I regretted missing out on their important events.
Now that i'm no longer a JW, i'm considered the villian no matter what i do...oh the power of gossip. - What would you want therapists to know about your situation?
The experience of being a JW has left me with severe depression, another therapist and several people noticed it.
The extremely sheltered lifestyle also made me unprepared for the real world.
Sometimes i have self-esteem issues and look for approval from others, and it also made me sensitive to criticism. - Any other thoughts
Having someone for emotional support and reality check does wonders during the recovery phase. It was a lot harder to heal when i was alone.
