I remember when I was first reinstated after a 20-year hiatus, I was very gung-ho in my personal bible study. I asked an elder if he could recommend a reference work so I could look up ancient greek words and compare translations. He gave me a very strange look, almost a raised eyebrow of suspicion .
I brushed it off as something I probably imagined.

Wait, Wait... WHAT?! Dec 15th, WT Study - This bugs me
by civicsi00 inok so i decided to just take a quick peek at the dec 15th study edition and i couldn't even get past the very first article!
it's a "personal" story of a jw who was born in 1928 and his experiences from that era.
what is the first thing printed on this page?

There was an overgrown lot with an old dilapidated building just across the street from the hall in Salisbury, MD. I was told it was the old black Kingdom Hall.
The explanation I received was that, unlike the government telling we couldn't preach, laws against white and black people meeting together for worship did not violate any scriptural mandate. So, the WTS went along with it.
That's what they said.

shamus 100: Not that anyone actually reads that trash anyways.
I dunno. On the occasions when I go to the local laundromat to wash the large comforter I always see someone reading those magazines. The idead of placing a warning on the front cover never occurred to me.
It occurs to me now.

Oct 15 WT life story of Fred Rusk beating children to attend church not a good idea?
by life is to short ini was just flipping through the oct 15 witness only wt about fred rusk as someone on this board had posted about it.. one point that really caught my attention was when fred was talking about being raised by his aunts and how they forced him to attend the baptists church.
he says in his own words "grandfather's older daughters managed the household.
although he was not a religious man, his daughters were strict southern baptists.

Also what was with the point that he like school sports? Again such hypocrisy.
Well, now... he was a worldly Baptist child when he liked sports, not a proper JW child.

TimothyT: I tell you now, i dont know why i keep reading this trash, but it just enrages me more and more.
Had to LOL when I read this part.
When I was fading and even after I disassociated, I was determined to maintain some sort of spiritual feeding program for myself so I kept up with the daily text, in addition to my bible readying and prayer. But I was finding myself disgusted more and more with the EXAMINING THE SCRIPTURES DAILY because of the number of times the governing body used that publication to worship and praise itself. So many times I began reading the text and then clicked it off because the FDS was extolling it's own virtues and prominence in the outworking of Jehovah's universal plan for all creation.
Gag me with a full place setting!

"Sorry, we were wrong." - WHAT IF
by irondork inif your parent(s) / children / siblings / friends apologized after all the years of shunning, can you forgive or has too much damage been done?.
for me it's kind of a double whammy.
got kicked out at age 19 for being gay and disfellowshipped.

For me it's kind of a double whammy. Got kicked out at age 19 for being gay AND disfellowshipped. The amount of turn-around they would have to do would probably never happen. But after many years I could see them realizing the kind of organization they are in and leaving. Sometimes I feel like I would embrace them back into my life while other times my anger makes me want to hurt them by rejecting them.
I know. That makes me as bad as they are. As sick as it is, that's how I feel sometimes.

Two weeks before my father died from mesothelioma, my mother was on the phone with an elder, pleading the case for why my father didn't have any time to report that month. The elder was so kind. He excused my father that month, telling my mother they were familiar with his case.
"HIS CASE!???"

I really enjoyed the Daniel book. Always been a bit of a history buff. I have since learned it has a bunch of holes in it, like everthing else from the WTS. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the book.

WTS Legal Dept: "Try to make your kids seem normal."
by irondork injust finished reading the segment on setting double standards from in search of christian freedom.
franz gives as an example what is probably the most wanton display of in-your-face hypocrisy.. citing a brochure produced by the legal department designed to help witness parents in child custody battles:.
this can be used to show that they are normal.
