"The END is soooooo close"
by Phizzy ini notice reported in a number of posts that this seems to a bit of a mantra with the dubbies now, more so than ever in the past.. is this because they are getting desperate for the life they live as jw's to change ?
they don't really want to end their days with the constant drudgery of the jw life still going on, they want something different, but must "wait on jehovah".
sigh.. i wonder if this is a small opportunity for us to sow some small, niggling doubt, why not ask, when they spew out the "it is soooo close" nonsense:.

Easy to see how the slaves will start beating eachother because the master is delaying. Had the slaves not been so decieved in the first place...

What tactics do the Witnesses get the worldly people curious?
by Iamallcool ini will tell you one, i do remember one brother that was doing some street work, he was standing while he only showed the very back page of the magazines and his tactic did work more than you think and they asked him what the magazine was all about.

Vidiot: Find the emotionally vulnerable.
Several times I have heard how it was a good idea to scour the local obituary column and write letters to the families of the deceased. This advise was always recieved with nods and smiles and..." Oh, that's a good idea."
"We can do that Sunday after meeting."
"Sounds great. It's supposed to rain anyway."
"Is that a new blouse? It's so pretty."
"Oh, this old thing. No. Just haven't worn it in awhile."
"I hear shoulder pads are making a comeback this year."
"Well... we're not looking to be fashionable, now are we?"

The truth just ain't the same any more.
by Julia Orwell inthis has been the sentiment of a few i know who have been full jws for decades.
they say the love is not there like it used to be, and it's become less personal.. anyone heard similar comments from oldies?.
we know the 'truth' ain't the truth in the first place, but i have a feeling there may be a lot of older ones hanging on just because it's all they've ever known, and it the alternative, that there is no paradise around the corner like they've always been taught us unthinkable..

This is an interesting topic. I was disfellowshipped at 19 and stayed totally away until I was 35. Took another 5 years to get reinstated and I felt a profound difference in the... flavor of it all. I was never able to put my finger on it, always assuming it was me. I had changed. I grew distant. Maybe I grew less socially adaptable. I always figured 15 years of chemical abuse had changed me and that's why I never felt comfortable back in that hall. Not like I did when I was younger.
It's true, I was a different person than the child who was disfellowshipped, but my observations were not all self centered. There was a mechanical feel to the interpersonal relationships in that building. It had a very strained quality to it.
It wasn't natural affection.

I always tuck in my shirt because I think a clean, neat appearance is important.
But I draw the line at tying my shoes and combing my hair. Oh, HELL NO!

AnnOMaly: After you've sorted out those kinds of questions, you may then want to figure out whether you believe the Bible or reevaluate your ideas about the Bible, Christianity and God.
Great answer!
Also, when you discerned other religions were false, did it cause you to question the bible? The existence of God? The only thing that is happening here is your discovery that Babylon the Great consists of one more religious organization than you thought it did a few days ago. That's all.
Jesus warned us that "many will come on the basis of my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ (the anointed) and will mislead many. (Mathew 24:5) You are witnessing the fulfillment of that prophesy and it's hitting you a lot closer than you ever imagined... or were prepared for.
Please don't jump to conclusions regarding the bible or God. Let the dust settle for a while. Read. Study. Meditate. Pray.
Don't jump.

Suspicious: It seems this place advocates thinking for yourself which I was not expecting.
Oh yea! You have to or you'll be wasting your time. We also encourage you to read the WT literature. No... REALLY read it! The truth about the WT organization is in its literature. Much of the content on this board is based on a critical review of the literature.
The Society has invited JWs to research their "rich spiritual heritage". On the face, this looks good. Sounds like an organization with nothing to hide. But the Society also knows that the vast majority of Witnesses have no access to the older publications, given that they have been out of print for decades and most Kingdom Hall libraries don't go back that far. Even the CD library only goes back to what, early 70's for the Awake and late 60's for the Watchtower? It is in this way that the Society can come out with videos that present a very sanitized version of their own history, or make references to its spiritual heritage in its various publications without any concern that the rank and file JW can or will check their "facts".
For that matter, rank and file members are reminded that it is a BAD thing to go around checking the information presented by the Governing Body, threatening that Jehovah will be angry with us if we do. For example, use your CD Library to look up the September, 2007 Kingdom Ministry and read the question box on page 3, titled: Does “the faithful and discreet slave” endorse independent groups of Witnesses who meet together to engage in Scriptural research or debate?
Also:
Watchtower, February 15, 1981 - Do We Need Help to Understand the Bible?
Jesus' disciples wrote many letters to Christian congregations, to persons who were already in "the way of the truth." (2 Pet. 2:2) But nowhere do we read that those brothers first, in a skeptical frame of mind, checked the Scriptures to make certain that those letters had Scriptural backing that the writers really knew what they were talking about.
OUR VIEW OF THE "SLAVE"
We can benefit from this consideration. If we have once established what instrument God is using as his "slave" to dispense spiritual food to his people, surely Jehovah is not pleased if we receive that food as though it might contain something harmful. We should have confidence in the channel God is using. So much for "Keep testing... keep proving", huh?
It is in this way they can tell you that some of the brothers read too much into what was being said about 1975 and got the wrong idea. They can tell you that some of them just didn't feel they should have to participate in the door-to-door preaching work and so those apostates had to be removed. They can tell you what an upstanding person Joseph Rutherford was and how he carried the message forward after the organization was selected by Christ in 1919 - without discussing his reputation for being a drunk or mention anything about Beth Sarim. (Google Beth Sarim)
There's a lot for you to learn. You think you have questions now? Hang on to your britches, friend. You don't know the half of it.
