"If you subtract 5 from the number of fingers of both your hands, the result will always equal the number of fingers from your left foot. Try to explain that!"
I have zero fingers on my left foot. I only have toes. Am I abnormal?
by now you've probably seen the following dates tossed around that will happen in this year:.
but something i wasn't aware of and my brother-in-law showed me about the year 2011:.
take the last 2 digits of the year of your birth and add it to how old you are/will be in this year(2011) and it should always equal 111.. to illustrate, i was born in 1967 and will be 44 this year.

this is my first thread at jwn.
i have posted only a few times on other threads.
i am a third generation jw turned ex-jw, inactive for six years.
baltar447 is right about use of an image to scrape ip addresses. To get a good distribution, they would have to post
on a popular thread since only the site owners can embed on plain old www.jehovahs-witness.net
But there would not be a way for them to correlate an ip address with a person, unless they are looking at
elders who have logins to jw.org where WTB&TS can record ip addresses and pair them with people.
somebody know the theme of this years district convention or is still top secret?.
I heard this Yesterday it's Proverbs 10:22 "The blessing of Jehovah - that is what makes rich"
latest pew research reveals that 18-29 year olds now use the internet as their primary source of news.
interesting correlation between education and primary news source as well.. http://people-press.org/report/689/.
the national survey by the pew research center for the people & the press, conducted dec. 1-5, 2010 among 1,500 adults reached on cell phones and landlines, finds that more people continue to cite the internet than newspapers as their main source of news, reflecting both the growth of the internet, and the gradual decline in newspaper readership (from 34% in 2007 to 31% now).
Well, the WTB&TS have not used television sitting there at the #1 spot for so many years either and I doubt ever would. The indoctrination process requires them to keep an eye on you and the personal touch.
i'm fully aware that this is a cult, and i was waiting for the social elements to kick in.
so far, i have just been doing the "bible study," discussing doctrine, etc.
however, recently one of the elders said he wants to get together with me to do other activities.
Mad Sweeney , "You stole my comment!" :)
What he said bears repeating here:
"If you go too far and then don't go all the way (becoming a fully active JW) then you're worse (in her mind) than someone who never ever heard the invention "Jehovah.""
In my view, you have the following options
1. Stop now with a good reason like family pulls you in your original direction. Don't make the decision be yours but something you cannot change because of others. You should still be able to have contact with her in some fashion and it will be ok.
2. Continue and later stop before becoming baptised ... you will be seen as bad association because you were not fit even though you saw the truth.
3. Become an ordained baptised Witness of Jehovah
a. She may get involved with you right off for marriage .. at the very least, she will get advice to wait about a year to see if you will stick
b. She may wait for you to become an MS and possible Elder material... This will take you a few years to do. Other sisters will throw themselves at you before this, many wanting a quick baby so they can do less field work.
c. or You may find she brings in a lot of guys this way and is not interested in them
d. If you fade or dissaccociate after realizing the bait and switch, you will never talk to her again
I would ask if she is 'pioneering'. She may have long conversations with you and those hours count to her quota every month. Does she look at her watch when meeting with you and departing?
a publishers guide to unfair disfellowshiping and defamation of character.
is now posted on freeminds.org, i saved a copy in case the subject comes up as it will again and again.
i'd like to be able to share good information about this issue.
Does anyone know of anyone using these tactics successfully?
Thanks
i know my view on this but would be interested to see what anyone else thinks.. .
at a court hearing recently my estranged wife, who left me (i'm not jw) asked me if i would be prepared to lie to her elders and state that i had committed adultery (i didn't) so that she would be allowed to "get on in her faith".
this from a woman who before she left got intimate (emotionally, i'm not sure about physically) with two "sisters", one of whom took to buying her large bunches of red roses and basicaly furnished her new house for her.. now my view is that she has clearly stated and put in writing that the marriage ended because of my unreasonable behaviour (i.e.
Meet with the elders and tell them she asked you to lie to them and that you won't lie because you are above the "So called morals of the Truth". If you remarry later, then she can marry that brother she currently has her eye on, otherwise, don't allow her to do it.
i thought it'd be fun to talk about what part of the conventions just made you cringe or be annoyed with.
i can remember a couple things:.
i remember after the tms when they put the list in the back on the announcement board, there were people that would get up while the last song was being sung to write down the info.
Speaking of self congratulating... I stopped clapping for and after every "experience". They were nothing but filler for the speaker.
And every three years, you would hear from one pioneer sister whose child didn't follow the WTB&TS and she "chose Jehovah" and the whole auditorium cries and everyone talks about the "moving experience". Those were conditioning sessions so if you ever faced it with your family, you would do the same.
may you all have peace!.
in another post, a dear one mentioned that a jw relative ceased being... ummmm... contentious, when the dear one told her that, after praying about it, they were allowing themselves "to be guided by holy spirit and not doctrine from a man-made organization.
" that the latter felt "wrong.
She thinks you don't know the difference between Holy Spirit and Holy Ghost. In the current JW view, those who claim to follow the holy <blank> and are non-JW are claiming to follow the "Holy Ghost", not Spirit. This beings up vews of Pentacostal or Baptists having fits and "getting the holy ghost". The distinction is partially based on verbiage. If I put on my own recent Witness veil, I would think that you meant Holy Ghost which equates to a non-holy spirit in the same way that King Saul thought he had Samuel conjured up.
Since the doctrine states that this is Gods active force, to personify the spirit and claim to follow it probably sent off that bell.
Hope this helps
i thought it would be interesting to discuss the things we believed as jw's, but were kind of embarassed about and didn't tell the public about, since it would make us look ridiculous.......... one thing i can think of is the idea that only jw's will make it through armageddon.
everyone else would be destroyed.
i would never tell anyone that even though we all believed it.
Confession. I totally agree! Mt 7:13,14 was one I used many times about the narrow gate. Yet the contradiction that I had in the back of my mind is one that the Society uses alot on "proof that WTB&TS is God's organization" is the 7 million publishers and 300k that get baptized every year!!
