I am seeing more people praise the "new light" rather than questioning themselves. They ae saying it will be easier to explain to their bible students and such. :(

The Real Purpose of Shunning Holidays
by metatron inthe watchtower endlessly prates on about pagan traditions in popular holidays - while the bible itself is loaded with subtle pagan religious ideas - such as wicked spirits being cast "into tartarus" (a pagan greek place in which the rebels against zeus got imprisoned) or "sacred secret" - a term the apostle paul likes that was adopted from pagan 'mystery' religions.. then we can throw in the reference to being divinely 'called christians' in acts - which uses a pagan term that refers to demonic oracles of the day.. of course, the watchtower has no objection to accumulating millions of pieces of paper that feature occult symbols (any dollar bill!).
in recent years, for good measure, they have added birthdays and thanksgiving to the official banned list, despite the sketchiest justification for doing so.
if birthdays are wrong simply because they figure in two negative accounts, then it makes much more sense to ban dogs as pets because of all the negativity in the bible about them!.

Once you guys have bad holiday times and would rather certain family members did not come around during the holidays, you might enjoy not celebrating like me. This is coming from someone who had toys every year from Santa and took a part in all the traditions of men and never knew why.
The JWs don't have a copyright on not celebrating holidays. Ask your local Jew or Muslim.

The latest change in Watchtower vocabulary to catch out the unwary
by slimboyfat ini got a copy of the recent kingdom ministry the other day and it reminded me of something in the book the orwellian world of jehovha's witnesses by heather and garry botting.
it's on the front page of the december issue of the km, they have a heading called "not 'alternative' witnessing" where they explain that the term is no longer considered appropriate and "public" witnessing should be used instead.. in the orwellian world of jehovah's witnesses the bottings discuss the importance of the particular language jws use to set themselves apart from other people.
they redefine common words to give them a particular slant, such as "brother", "sister", "literature" and so on.

The busy work of learning new terms is welcomed. I got knocked one day for not using "CC" Congregation Coordinator and instead was still
using "PO" Presiding Oveseer. I coul not wait to clip the next person on that myself. It's catchy and contageous busy work.
When a brother wants to show off how long he has been in and keeping up, he will use the examples from one to the next to current in his talk.

woble is spot on. Just by being a dub, they are already corrupted in some sense. Either by the society, or
by their own standards.
Some like to wonder and do things on the holidays as if they don't care that there are pagan roots.
Some watch sports. Remember how this had been brewing up in DCs lately?

Convienient that the witnesses, after years of being wrong, change their prophesies into invisible actions, such as invisible Armageddon. Before then, the prophesy was that in 1914, it would be the end.
They learned to be more careful and old publications have been eradicated and if you were to ever bring up an article more than a few months old, recent KMs warn against their use.

yes, they are similar, but different, topics.. specifically, we can use the nwt to show the deity of jesus and how the people/authors of his day viewed who he was.
