Study the Bible with JW - Any advice?

going for a word by word bible reading/study with a jw, no literature involved and maybe using more than one versions.

is that a wise move and is there any advantage?.

When I think of search and replace, I think of The Living Bible. The NWT is certainly more. For example, the KJV says in Acts 8:37

And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Seems like a benign enough passage. How does the NWT translate that same passage?

The closest exegetical study of the NWT would be made with the KIT, no? Because no one is certain of what they used for the old Purple version and 1985 versions, correct?

One day dad tried to kill us all

that's right, my dad tried to kill everyone in our house back in 1980. after the attempt was unsuccessful he pretended it was a boneheaded accident.

one day while we were living in houston we were all told to go take a nap in our bedrooms.

the next thing i remember was waking up and being told to go outside and sit in the yard.

It must have been hard to come to the realization that a parent could do this but I commend you because you overcame it. I wonder how many accidents are actually cases for cold blooded murder. The assumption is that family members would not do this and accidents don't make the headlines. When dealing with investigators, I found they are not as thorough in real life as they appear on Television.

i've just completed a lengthy article on the history of racism in the society's publications.

many people (including myself, until recently) aren't aware that the society's early publications were brimming with racist rhetoric, and this only calmed down as the public mood towards racism changed, most notably with the civil rights movement in the 50s/60s.. a few "headliners" from the article are:.

russell segregated blacks from whites for viewings of the photodramarussell believed that the skin of a black man would turn white during the millennial kingdomunder russell, the society's publications portrayed the black races as "degraded" and the white race as "superior"rutherford viewed the blacks as a "race of servants", and spoke of "sobering the southern negro" in an article against prohibitionunder rutherford, the golden age slammed uncle tom's cabin (a work that helped end slavery) as being "the work of satan"; the same article branded spaniards a "backwards race"rutherford accused "jewish business men" of "oppressing the peoples of many nations"in 1929 the golden age (acknowledged by the society as essentially the same magazine as the modern awake!

It is a bait and switch for sure.

Their understanding of the Bible is based on the Societys views.

If you want proof, download the 2011 CD Rom, bring up a tough subject, one that will cause them to say "I will research that and get back to you"

Then tell them you have the 2011 CD Rom if they want to do research right there. They will be uneasy likely, and ask you where you got it from, but then you ask them if their research was going to include the CD Rom. If the subject was a tough one, and they are honest, they will say yes.

Then ask, what do you need them for if you can look up things on the CD.

How does the gay community and pro-choice feel about Westboro? It would seem they have a pro-gay, pro-choice agenda against fundamentalist type of religious sects by making vile protests. They want the observer to hate the fundamentalists.

jwn has helped me get a better grip with reality, knowing we are all kinda tweaked from our collective experience.

the pain the religion has inflicted on the innocent men and women is not cool, i know you will keep up the good work and please watch over the newbies who are looking for comfort, support and the listening ear.

Life is not all that bad once you are conscious.

Just remember, for born-ins, there is family.

For non-born ins, the society provided friends.

So once knowing TTATT, there is emptyness that some part of your life you spent in, but it was not all for naught.

Getting involved with wholesome friends, your hobbies and the lot will keep you busy enough.

Fare well.

The point is, everyone has been worked up (by the media) over 26 deaths.

26 deaths is inconsequential on the world scene.

We are here on a board composed of those that were in, knew about, or associated with the Truth (as told by WTB&TS)

So why stop at hunger, and suffering and get the person, or quark, or spirit responsible for death or sin then death. Because we all gotta go...

but I'd rather not go because another man decided to take my life.

How many years and spoons (full of food I guess it where you are getting) does it take to kill a human versus a bullet to the body?

And do these obese Americans only use spoons to eat?

Death through a gun shooting bullets when used against a person can give satisfaction in a matter of minutes or seconds based on the trauma.

That guy looks scary, but if he took that spoon and fed the 20 children, they probably would have smiles on their faces instead of rigor mortis at this hour.

They would then have enough time to decide in 20-30-40-50 years to have a good diet and excercise. When faced with bullet wounds, possibly some to the head, there are no decisions to be made.
