From the New World Translation to the Cross - LONG
by I<3MYGod ini am new here, so i felt that i should share my experience, my thoughts, my feelings and my total and complete change of heart.. i have posted bits and pieces about me and what happened, here is the whole story.. i was born into the religion from 1 parent that was born into it as well and another that was brought in as a child, i did as i was instructed to do.
i was punished when i made my parents look bad at the kingdom hall, i was taken outside and spanked as a child for falling asleep at the forever long and drawn out boring meetings.
it really drove the nail home that i was insignificant when i would see and hear my father asleep and snoring after he had not 'spared the rod', who was going to take him outside and punish him?

Unbelievable WT Oct 15/2010 2nd study article
by bobld in"our viewpoint may be distorted or limited" par 16 "mosaic law-he(god) did not enforce his own law"wtf.. so the gb/fds will tell us their distorted viewpoint.they say law given to imperfect judges who could not read hearts.yet the gb/fds says they can by their pharisaic laws and rules ie child abuse/shunning/etc.. why did god give the mosaic law if they could not read hearts.oh it was ok for the israelites to kill some people for adultery/murder but not david because they could not read his heart.wtf does it matter if he was sorry and repentent were not the others just as sorry and repentent.. b.

@ sir82
Your brief summary is right on the point. It's like condemning every person accused of murder to the electric chair, even though some might be innocent.

@ easyreader1970 I thought the same thing when studying this article. I was thinking if there was a woman accused of adultery, there would be no way the high priest or whoever would be able to read her heart (i don't believe there was a provision for change of heart after committing the deed in the Mosaic Law), so she'd be stoned to death. However the situation is different for the king, he can play the game according to his rules as Curtains said. Isn't it evidence of unfairness and favoritism?

@ prodigal son
You said: Because Jehovah is Satan, Jehovah is a murderer, and Jehovah ordered David to take the census. Here's the Biblical "proof":
"And SATAN stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel." ~1 Chronicles 21:1.
"And again the anger of JEHOVAH was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah." ~2 Samuel 24:1
I doubt God would put something in David's mind and then condemn him afterwards. Although I see that most Bible translations render 2 Samuel 24:1 as you say, except for Young's Literal Translation which says "And the anger of Jehovah addeth to burn against Israel, and an adversary moveth David about them, saying, 'Go, number Israel and Judah.'"
Nevertheless, I still can't get over the fact that 70 thousand innocent people died because of a stupid census. They had no say in the process. I don't care who it was that put this idea into David's mind, why did all those people have to die??

The account of the census always made me angry. Reading at Samuel 24 it shows how at v4 David was warned against the census by Joab and the chiefs of the military forces, and the census itself took almost 10 months (v8) so he had plenty of time to change his mind and stop it. Nevertheless due to his pride or whatever 70 000 people died !!! Why did so many innocent people have to die for a man's sin? I can never reconcile this account with reason, so I guess I must suffer also from a 'distorted or limited viewpoint'. I don't care if these people will be resurrected one day, I will never explain why they died from an angel using bioterrorism (making them all sick with some sort of death-dealing pestilence). And only after so many had died God told him to stop, since "it was now enough". Couldn't God have deemed it enough after 1, 5, 10 people dying to pay for only 1 person's sin? Why did so many have to die??

New Beginnings!!!!
by JWFreak inwell things have changed big time for me.
on the 3rd of dec. finally, i have left my work at bethel and moved almost 500 kilometres away to a new life.. some of you were aware of my work in a european branch, and have kept my confidence.
for this i am eternally grateful...you know who you are.. the huge weight that has been taken off my shoulders is both a comfort and a relief.. when i settle into my new home properly, i intend to write some memoirs of life at the branch, hoping that others will find it of interest.. for now my future is for the first time uncertain and that makes it very very exciting, but i am no longer under the control of others yay!!.

It's all about Family Worship Day/Night. And how different types of families have to set aside a day for it. More emphasis on this after one meeting being merged with the thursd. one.

Door-to-Door Ministry in the UK: What is it Like?
by leavingwt infor those in the uk, what was it like to engage in the door-to-door ministry?
i watched the video below, today, and the author states that pushing your religion on others in the uk is considered crass.
further, he says that religion is a very private matter.

I found this video to be really insightful, even though it's not produced with JW in mind. For example the parallel between Parent-child, reminds me of the Parent-Child relationship between a JW and his/her Bible Study. The JW is supposed to teach him what's right and wrong, 'encourage' him to make needed changes, correct him if the Study is not bringing an aspect of his life in harmony with JW teachings. Meanwhile the Study has to be compliant with everything, if the study (or relationship) is to continue. When in service we tell others that we're there to discuss the Bible with them, get their opinions etc, it starts off as the Adult-Adult relationship, but quickly it degenerates to Parent-Child. This in spite of the fact that many of these people are Christians, have completed their education, work and raise a family. This approach is most likely to fail, so often in service you hear JW justifying the apathy or negativity with comments such as "Satan has blinded their eyes, etc".
It's no wonder that most ppl who accept to participate in our studies are either children (because as video shows indoctrination is easier when critical thinking faculties are not yet developed), or worse yet nutjobs.
i appreciated it.

I have to completely agree with the comment of LongHairGal, it suits the interest of this religion to have a number of unmarried sisters who willingly slave their lives away in service or other assignments in the cong. If some of them married outside the org, the grip of the cong. would loosen as they would spend time with their families and careers. If there were many single men, the rules would surely not be so strict. Because the options are so limited and dating is supposed to take place only with chaperones, I know of many young ones who find themselves in unsuccessful, unhappy marriages.
