The UN involvement got the ball rolling for me, once I saw the documents and how they'd tried to cover it up and lie about it, they lost credibility with me. I googled jw's and went to freemings, and here in jwn. The rest is history.

What made you leave "The Truth"?
by Chemical Emotions infor me it was many things.
most concerned certain teachings that invloved genders, children, sex, sexuality and sexual orientations, disfellowshipping, apostates, blood, rape, and few other things, as well as the jw's unloving attitude toward so many people..

After the victory in France, JW's take the streets in celebration.

@ NomadSoul. I didn't see it was posted under humour. Got it now.
Actually dancing and "partying" ways vary to a considerable degree among JWs of different ethnic groups. What would seem quite inappropriate to a JW in i.e. UK or the US, would be normal or even traditional to a JW from Southern Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, etc.
I remember there was a WT article some years back mentioning how a missionary from Germany was shocked/stumbled to see local JWs dance in a 'get together' somewhere in Latin America.
The WT is surely about control, but they can only suppress cultural traits so much. I've seen several times brothers/sisters express a totally different side than the uptight KH JW in gatherings, attributing it to their different 'expressive' backgrounds. On the other hand, I've seen a few cases of Canadian bro/sisters get counselled for being more expressive than their 'cultural boundaries would impose' at a JW party.

Is this in France? The youtube link says it was in Berlin after the International Convention in 2009. It's supposed to be a dance from the Caucasus, Armenia maybe..

The Governing Body has NEVER claimed to be inspired
by Alfred inthere was a recent thread here which covered the subject of the gb claiming to be spirit directed (and not actually inspired by the holy spirit).
by now, most of us are quite aware that this is just a play with words to excuse themselves whenever one of their false doctrines is debunked (by someone using the bible or their own publications).
but when you think of it, spirit-directed is actually more presumptuous than spirit-inspired.. that being said, id really like to draw attention to the fact that the wt continuously claims that the governing body of jehovahs witnesses has never claimed to be inspired by god (through his holy spirit).

Nebeska I feel sorry for what you're going through.
I went through a period of severe disillusion and shock too for some time, due to the WT.

Jesus Making JW the "True" Religion
by Cali Guy inthis thought has been crossing my mind frequently lately.
jw have undoubtably not always been correct in their interpretation of the bible.
yet, the wt claims that they are the true religion.
-
Nobleheart
He didn't. There is no scriptural backing whatsoever for 1919 as the time Jesus chose JWs --- Bible Students as the sole channel. The new "God-bearing name" came in 1931, supposedly they needed even more refinements 12 years after 1919 until they received the present label.
I wonder why Jesus didn't give them the name Jehovah's witnesses right upon okay-ing them, it would be proper..biblically speaking.
i.e. Jehovah changed and gave people new names, t o establish a new identity. God changed Abram’s name to Abraham "father of multitude" and his wife’s name from Sarai to Sarah “mother of nations”. God changed Jacob’s "supplanter" name to Israel “having power with God”. He changed Simon’s "God has heard" name to Peter "rock". Followers of Jesus were given the name "Christians" by divine providence (Acts 11:26).
Or rather the name Jehovah's witnesses was just a personal decision of Rutherford to set them apart from Russellites and other schism groups.
Apart from celebrating holidays, using the cross, smoking, accepting blood transfusions until 1945 etc, Bible Students were worshipping Jesus and it was okay to pray it him until the '50s. Both Jehovah and Jesus making them polytheists.
So Jesus appointed a polytheistic religion in 1919 according to the WT.
Jwfacts has a great diagram that shows the circular reasoning applied by JWs as to their selection in 1919 in the "15-minute-guide-to-truth" Section.

Watchtower says Hemoglobin Constitutes 33% of A Red Blood Cell. AJWRB says its 97%. Which is Correct?
by LUKEWARM ini'm confused at the huge variance in these percentages - where can i find exactly what % of a red blood cell is made up of hemoglobin?.
km 11/06 says its 33%.

Plasma is about 90% water. Red blood cells contain water too, "dry content" is what you get by removing it.
By 'dry content' I mean chiefly proteins (Hemoglobin being the most important one; surface glycoproteins which assign us to a particular blood type, membrane proteins - channels, transporters and enzymes), also membrane lipids and ions (sodium, potassium, etc)
The dry mass % of a RBC is about 95-97% made up of Hemoglobin, basically a complex protein containing iron, that transports oxygen to the tissues and collects carbon dioxide back to the lungs.
There are about 280 million molecules of Hemoglobin in one single red blood cell. The fact that whole blood or red blood cells aren't permitted for transfusion, but Hemoglobin based substitutes like PolyHeme (from human Hemoglobin) are okay now, just shows how arbitrary and unscientific the WT stance is.
