i went to the homepage for ray franz' commentary press, and i found an article there promoting the idea that genesis teaches a local flood.
the author believes the genesis flood actually happened, as a local event, and that an ark actually were floating on top of local flood waters in the mesopotamia area some thousand years ago.
i recognized many arguments from a talk carl olof jonsson gave at a "christian freedom" seminar in sweden in, i think, 1996, so i guess that this article, too, is written by coj.

If you meant to say American Indians, yes they do have a legend. I looked in my photo albums and found a snapshot of me and my two boys when returning from an assembly in Winnepeg Canada circa 1966. The plaque on the totem pole says "THE RAVEN FLOOD TOTEM".
I can't read the rest of it because the camera was not close enough. But the gist of the story is that the raven saved two children from a great flood. Can't remember if it was a boy and a girl but that sounds like it had to be. WTS says all these legends just prove what they have been saying all along. Go figure.

One of my biggest problems with a global flood is:
If the flood broke up the land masses, how did the kangaroos and wallabees and all those idigineous creatures get to Austrailia? How did the pandas and koalas get where they needed to be to get their specialized food?

I have just finished reading the front section of the Sunday paper. It is filled with stories of the elderly receiving the poorest of the poorest of care. Why? Their money ran out! One lady wandering away from the care facility in her nighty and diaper for the second time froze to death.
This is what a lot of us have to look forward to because we have no savings or investments. I posted about this on the 1975 thread a couple of days ago. These people were not even JWs. How much more are JWs at risk?
Sustenance and covering? yada yada yada May I ask how old you are? May I ask if you have a family? You bet your ass the WTS is responsible for a lot of us not having anything to fall back on! this past weekend, one of the few remaining jw relatives who will still discuss jw stuff with me told me about his recently attending a home bible study being conducted by an elder.
evidently, the study had been told or had picked up some info about the 1975 fiasco.
the elder totally denied that the society had stated or even led people to believe that armageddon would occur in 1975, and he naturally blamed some individual jws for misinterpreting the society's materials.
1975? Boy do I remember 1975! Stockpiling? Oh, yeah. We always did a lot of canning during the harvest season, so we had a closetful. One couple would go to the canning companies in the area and buy those huge gallon cans of everything and put them in the basement. A CO remarked from the platform that he knew who he was going to stay with when IT hit.
Get rid of your profit sharing plans and retirement savings. You can use that money now to serve Jehovah. We all had station wagons. Anyone remember station wagons? The forrunner of SUVs. Thirteen kids in our book study under the age of 10. Yuck! When "Jehovah" said jump, we said how high?
Do you know what it is like to live on measly Social Security? At least we have that and our house is paid for.
Just try to find 1975 in your indexes. It has all been purged.

I'm a baby with db's. When I posted the first time, I was corrected and wanted to go back and thank my corrector. However, my post was gone and so was his/hers.
