Baptised at 9.
Starting having doubts at 14.
Read about the witnesses in the watchtower library but didn't look online until I was about 15. Then I stop believing in the witnesses at all.
Officially decided I was an atheist at 17
..when you got baptised, and when you discovered the truth about the truth?.

first and foremost....if anyone out there has access to one and trusts me...please pm me.
i am dying to get my hands on a full copy.
but if not....can someone at least confirm.....does it expressly say (somewhere in the manual) that simply not accepting society based doctrine is grounds for disfellowshipping (on charges of apostasy?
if anyone out there has access to one and trusts me...please PM me.
Trust you? Why would we have to trust you? I'd hand em out like candy to strangers. (Except that I don't hand out candy to strangers, but I'm sure you know what I mean.)
But it's freely available on google docs at the moment: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0B0P5s5YtkFqFODE4ZmNjM2UtYzAxNi00YmIzLWI5MzEtZTcwYTExYTI0MmM2&hl=no&authkey=CKHh4KkL
"If one obstinately is speaking about or deliberately spreading false teachings, this may be or may lead to apostasy. If there is no response after a first and a second admonition, a judicial committee should be formed."
So according to THAT, they will only take action if you are actively talk to people about your beliefs. . . But that's only in theory. If you tell an elder: "I'm an atheist and I think Jehovah is a fictional monster who is more evil than emperor Palpatine, but I won't talk to anyone about it" Odds are they'll try to disfellowship you whether you talk to anyone about it or not.
i have a pc running windows vista.. i was thinking about buying windows 7 upgrade................... what will happen to my itunes stuff and purchases?.
as far as Itunes, i bought an 8GB memory card and backed up my Itunes on the card
8GB? You call that a music collection?
just a brief question concerning this practice.. my wife is about to get her annual shepherding call.
frankly, i did not know that this routine practice existed.
what is the purpose of it?.
Depends on the congregation a bit.
In our last congregation while I was growing up we never got ANY sheperding calls. The elders only did sheperding calls if they think you messed up.
But then we moved to a new hall and they did sheperding calls on everyone at LEAST twice a year no matter what. They'd usually ask how everyone was doing, if they had any questions or concerns, if there were any goals the elders could help you reach. etc.
If your wife is in a congregation where they are routine then she should expect them to pray with her, read a few scriptures. They'll probably have a REALLY short prepared talk or article they want to read with her. Then they'll ask her what her spiritual goals are. Odds are she'll make something up real quick to avoid looking like she doesn't have any goals. And then they'll try to help her reach it.
So if she says she wants to conduct a bible study, they'll probably arrange for a pioneer to hand a bible study off to her in a few weeks. So 'be careful what you wish for' they might help you get it.
The whole thing normall only takes about 15 minutes.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/blogs/lab-notes/2008/10/27/found-king-solomon-s-mines.html.
for those who believe that the bible is entirely mythical?
just asking.... peace to you all!.
. . . The Bible doesn't mention any mine.
So someone finds a mine in the general area and which may have been used around the same time period.
Therefore the biblical claim that Solomon had about 30,000 tons of gold is divinely inspired truth?
When I was a witness I always thought Solomon was so rich because of his wisdom, and he bartered and traded so darn well. If he mined it all that's a bit less impressive.
does anyone still take time to read the bible regularly or occassionally, or you have completely pushed it aside?.
pls give reasons.
Why would I read it again? There are so many other books out there to read, I'm not gonna waste time re-reading the ones I've already finished over and over.
the co is at my husbands hall this week so i tied in to the meeting he was going on and on about how there are 140 elders in the circuit and only 80 something ms's.
of the elders 25 are over 75 years old.
of the ms's it was about 20 are over 75 years old.
Some of the things that females are not allowed to do are strange.
Why can't they operate the sound system? It's not something that requires any spiritual knowledge, they're not teaching the congregation, they're not representing anyone in prayer. They just sit in a little booth and fiddle with buttons.
If I wrote a simple program to activate the songs at the appropriate times would it have to wear a digital head covering? If it can be done automatically by software why can't a woman do it?
Why are they allowed to mow the lawn and clean the toilets but not adjust the microphones?
Why do you have to have 2 MS's hold a sign that says: "This section reserved for baptismal candidates" But you can't just replace them with a pole or a sister?
What the heck are the biblical reasons for these restrictions?

Maybe that's because the qualifications are almost identical.
If you 'qualify' to be a MS then you also 'qualify' to be an elder.
It's kind of unusual for someone to become a MS and then not get promoted to elder a few weeks later.
watchtowers sexual subliminal?
today i uploaded a new article to my blog.
it addresses one of the cleverest subliminal image sets ive seen in a long time, and perhaps the best of all amongst watchtower publications.
Not to spoil the joke or anything, but was 'cock' even used as a slang term for 'penis' in 1958? I figured that was a much more recent thing.
how could judas be blamed, for an action pre-planned by god.
wasn't he destined?, what are your views on the matter?.
OK well there's a quantum uncertainty principle that's in play in scenario number 2 which apparently makes impossible to predict the distant future based on the current state it's in. Unfortunately I don't understand that so I'm gonna pretend it's not a problem.
So for the sake of simplicity lets pretend god copy/pasted the universe and fast-forwarded it to see what was going to happen in this one and it works.
I'm of the opinion that, if this is possible, it means that all our thoughts and actions are the inevitable result of the arrangement of atoms at the beginning of the universe.
If you've ever played conways game of life you can get an idea of how the specific arrangement of atoms early on will always result in the same inevitable outcome unless there are some truly random events or outside influence later on.
What this all means is that everything you do, even though it might feel to you as if you have free will in the matter, is all the direct result of how god arranged the atoms in the beginning. Whether he knew it at the time or not, he was predetermining EVERYTHING when he first made the universe.
This is why I say that free will is an illusion in that scenario. The only way things can happen any differently is if a really random event happens, or if god intervenes and changes something. But then after that random event or divine interevention, everything is 'predetermined' again.
But if truely random events DO happen without God's intervention, then the whole idea of him being able to predict the future falls apart.
