Well, I'm not a lady but I started this thread so I'll tell why. I'm out in service one day after a BOE meeting the night before. In the van aside me are 3 sisters, one with her about 13 yr. old son. The boy had diarrhea of the mouth. Never shut up. Talking about what went on at elders meeting last night. Mom was squirrming, kid not taking the hint to shut his big mouth. First chance mom says we're taking this door. As they were walking you could tell that kid was catching holy hell. The next hour he hardly said a word. I figure the kid was listening as elder dad told mom all about the meeting the night before.

When I was first appointed I did, not me myself, but the body as a whole. Good group of spiritual men. At first a pleasure to serve with them. But things change, in my case for the worse. Pettiness seemed to rule the body along with the fact that we probably erred with some of the appointments we made. One fairly young brother became all impressed with himself. His very first BOE meeting his hand shot right up to be on a committee involving immorality, and he's never miss one yet. I think he enjoyed "R" rated problems. New boy on the body should have sat fairly quiet and observed for a couple meetings. Anyone I felt that it wasn't holy spirit that prevailed, but it was the stronger personalities, mainly belonging to one family, always backing each other up. But it was good at first.

How far are you on your journey away from the JW Org?
by punkofnice ini mentally left the org in march 2010. i stepped down as an elder after my lad got into trouble.
i researched the publications to make myself 'spiritually strong' but it backfired.. i was in mental and emotional turmoil, still on fs, the platform and meetings etc.
i had to force myself to conform to ever failing jw doctrine.. i announced to my family that i was not going back to meetings in august 2010 after the 'overlapping' joke of 'new light'.. i told the elders not to call.

They've been using that term quite a while now. "Christian Order of Jeh........" I think it is one of their many, many corporate names.

Just a little off thread topic, but still related. Close bethel couple to my ex-wife and I were very upset when they HAD to sign a paper to allow the bethel office access to their private medical records. That was just before the big bethel layoffs of 2007 or about. She was especially upset. They got put out anyway. The inference of signing that medical information release was that they would or did lie on their medical health assessement questionier.

Not far enough. Last meeting about June of 2010. Way too much family still in. Not able to break free completely yet. Family does not know I no longer attend.

#6 of that vow is the MOST CULT-LIKE thing that I EVER read about the borg. If after reading that, if the red flags don't go up you are in JW land forever.

A question to the ex-JW's...
by losthobbit ini'm curious about what made you realize that your ex-religion was not "true"?.
i've had discussions with many religious people, and they're always trying to protect their beliefs, rather than allowing anything i say challenge what they believe.
was there ever something someone said to you, or something you read that maybe made you doubt your beliefs for the first time, or had a similar effect?.

"New Light' only seems to shine when the old light is proved wrong, or when leagally needed to protect the borg from lawsuits.
