"The 'brother' has said to the elders at some point that he has it under control but cannot be 100% sure it won't happen again" That sentence alone shows the evasion of personal responsibility. "IT" doesn't happen - the molester does it. Not accepting responsibility is another indicator that this person will re-offend. The police need to be involved!

Sickening Dilemma
by ItsMyLife ini would like to have your opinions on what i should do about a situation please.. i have recently discovered that a 'brother' in the congregation (which i no longer attend) is a child molester.
i've seen documentation from his psychiatrist dated a few years ago, stating that he doesn't feel that this person is likely to offend again.
the 'brother' has said to the elders at some point that he has it under control but cannot be 100% sure it won't happen again.

Anywhere anytime I can pray. . .
Ah, not exactly. When a baptised sister , or better still a brother is offering a prayer, all you get to do is follow along and say "Amen".
Never too soon to teach Sophie her place and her prospects!

Annoying 2/15 WT - Don't Be Stumbled- your Mind Just Misunderstands !
by flipper inanother wt article which causes jw's to doubt their own perceptions of reality.
) in this particular article titled " for those loving jehovah, " there is no stumbling block " - the wt society stoops to new, or rather re-hashed lows to insinuate that most if not all jw's really misunderstand causes of stumbling as it's just their minds that are imperfect, messed up, or gone entirely anyway.
the first abhorrent bit of information here describes a witness man who " fought " with feelings of being homosexual and of course the elders thought they had the perfect antidote to keep him from his alleged " abnormal " desires.

Two elders visited him and listened sympathetically, without interrupting, while he related his story, AS HE PERCEIVED IT. They encouraged him to thrw his burden on Jehovah and stressed that the most important thing was to please God. "
So sad. They don't even need to try to equate "pleasing God" with "Obeying the WT and not rocking the boat" because the poor sheep already have that engraved on their minds. . .

The Other Side of the Indian Rape Story
by fulltimestudent ini'm posting this story, not to defend an indefensible act, but to try to provide some balance.
the fact is that so many indians exist in a poverty so deep that it's difficult for westerners to even understand.
the youngest of the rapists in the now world known rape story, according to this uk, independent newspaper story, grew up in that world that seems hopeless.

The scientific hypocrisy of Jehovah's Witnesses
by jwfacts ini have been involved in an email exchange with a jw regarding my article on noah's flood, and whether it was global.
it got me really worked up, as i find the watchtower mentality totally hypocritical.
here is part of the conversation.. .

They really are shockers
faulty “scientific” theories invented by imperfect men.
and yet, if there is an "new light" or demonstrated bad conduct by an elder, quick to use the "imperfect men" defense themselves.
And the common jw concept that if the messenger has been successfully smeared, there's no need to investigate the message any further. Sad. .

Rant: Weakness and enfeebling
by perfect1 insomething in still thinkings post triggered my own rant.
after observing the situation as an adult for quite awhile, it is my belief that the societys teachings make people weak.
the wts does not strenthen, it enfeebles in nearly every way possible.. here are a few traits which bother me most:.

Not sure if it's indirectly covered, but the "shoot the messenger" mentaility. This means by focussing on and abusing any source of uncomforatable information they never have to confront it.
So, the many terms for such books/sites/people: Apostate, weak in faith, bad influence, controlled by Satan etc

Why I`m not against the death penalty....one reason...their are more
by smiddy inyou have all read in newspapers , heard it on tv, radio ,of the 23 year old indian woman student who was gang raped recently by no less than 10 men on a bus then severely beaten with an iron bar and then thrown off the bus in singapore and has since died of her injuries .. those perpretrators of that crime are deserving of the death sentence in my book .. if you willfully take a life or ,are a party to it ,you automatically forfeit your own life .that`s my philosophy .. what`s yours.

Smiddy,
Sorry for having to leave the discussion and a Happy New Year!
If these perpretrators are identified as the culprits ? What say ye then ?
Identified how? Eye witness, fingerprints? DNA? confession? The thing is wrongful convictions do happen. The most stats I'm aware of are American, but after all we had the Lindy Chamberlain case here too. And then we are in the position that Dmouse outlined:
"It's wrong to kill, you are believed to have killed, so now we have to kill you."
I'm a mother and am very distressed and outraged by this case. But a quick and retaliatory response, while possibly helping some people to cope with the horror of this case, sets a very dangerous precedent. Wherever executions are legal, people have been unjustly executed. And that is equally horrific.
Worst of all is that cultural minorites, the poor, undereducated and mentally challenged are at greatest risk. Those with the capacity and means to hire the best legal advice and PR are rarely convicted. Remember OJ Simpson?
The alternatives have, for now, lower success rates and cost the taxpayer a lot. But as a civilized country, I don't believe we can afford to decend to retaliation to satisfy the popular media.

I'll consider supporting the death penalty when we have a legal system that provides infallible verdicts.
