this weekend was the convention for the southern san francisco bay area.
it was held at the santa clara convention center in the silicon valley http://www.santaclara.org/conventioncenter/ which is an improvement over the old s.f.
cow palace which is still used..just not as much.

in the 10/15 watchtower study edition on pg.
12 is the article " what kind of spirit do you show ?
" right away this article starts drawing the line of demarcation in the sand between who has the right to make decisions within jehovah's witnesses and who does not have the right to do so.
...i can just picture you all raising your hands and being called on by today's conductor, Flipper...
Really appreciate your making this point, Elephant! Here people can use their critical thinking skills rather than parroting the answer to a set question. What a difference!

Hi Mr Flipper!
I know the false analogy of elder committee - medical treatment has been well addressed, but there is another aspect.
It deliberately reinforces the idea that the brother or sister asked to attend a meeting with elders is sick and in need of help, without ever having to make a case for this. Great way to erode self confidence and build fear!

so we all know the jw vocabulary is a weird one.
what words or phrases bugged you the most?.
a few of mine:.
Jehovah God (favorite of my "study" leader). How much reminding does He need?
i just spoke to my eldest daughter (i'll name her liv here) on the phone.
i am still shaking all over my body.
partly cause i'm scared to death, partly cause i feel there is a small hope.
Congratulations and well done, Cirkeline!
Just a suggestion from someone who didn't go slow enough. . . if your eldest daughter is through the defensive and angry stages, she may be ready to help others wake up. If so, does she know she'll also have to go slowly with her younger sister?
i am well aware that many members of this board adhere to the view that the wt and/or the bible is contradictory.
the question is: if paul grundy is so enlightened as to 'the truth about the truth', why is he so contradictory?.
jwfacts to me (in a personal message): "much of the information at jwfacts.com is from the research of people far more gifted then me,and comes from jwn.
JWfacts, in reply to the 4th post on this thread, Recovery said he had your permission to quote PMs. Is this so?

Recovery. . .
Here in the real world, you don't have to be perfect to be believed. There is no "Truth", nor any infallible interpretation of it.
We just evaluate them all and go with the one that checks out best.
In the WT world there is no infallible "Truth" either. Just some silly old men who can't admit their mistakes.
Meanwhile a big thank you for promoting the wonderful and informative jwfacts.com !.
i have a question for the author of the website jwfacts.
as i was reading the sparlock article, i couldn't help but notice something seriously wrong:.
"the bible abounds in vivid fantasy, such as its many celestial descriptions, or the portrayal of warring kingdoms with imaginary beasts.. the sparlock message is confusing, as much for an adult as for a child, as the bible shows that god's followers practice magic, even if they are usually referred to as miracles.
thanks, Recovery, for your post 287.
Now there are those that use the argument that David is said to have studied omens, magic, and as well as Daniel when he was educated in the practices of the Babylonians. But notice the distinction that has to be made when one is arguing from this viewpoint. Daniel and David are thought to have studied, not practiced such things. Jehovah does not say 'YOU must not study magic or omens'. He says 'YOU must not practice it.'
Now I understand this argument and how it relates to Sparlock! If Caleb had only studied Sparlock, his Mum would have been fine with it!
do you shun former members of your religion?.
those who were baptized as jehovah's witnesses but no longer preach to others, perhaps even drifting away from association with fellow believers, are not shunned.
in fact, we reach out to them and try to rekindle their spiritual interest.. .
What I find most offensive is when the half-truths are directed at children. Look at the "Guard against Ambition" "Bible study" activity.
A story of treachery and treason is relabelled "Ambition". . . which another time can be linked to "higher education"

I was thinking about responding to certain points but then I again I doubt anyone is still paying attention 8 days later
Is that the theocratic way of saying "you win?"
