XenaWarrior:
I was trying to be gracious and wasn't going to bring up our football bet from a few weeks back.
In chat, you accepted a bet that should Minnesota beat your Packers in Minnesota we would see a picture of you in a Viking Jersey. Perhaps I missed it but before LB is forced to pay up I'd like to see you in Purple! :)

for those of you familiar with snl, you will remember a great philosopher named jack handey.
here are my three favorites deep thoughts of all time.
share yours.
A few other classics...
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.
Dad always thought laughter was the best medicine, which I guess is why several of us died of tuberculosis.
I hope if dogs ever take over the world, and they chose a king, they don't just go by size, because I bet there are some Chihuahuas with some good ideas.
To me, boxing is like a ballet, except there's no music, no choreography, and the dancers hit each other.
We tend to scoff at the beliefs of the ancients. But we can't scoff at them personally, to their faces, and this is what annoys me.
To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.
If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.
If you ever fall off the Sears Tower, just go real limp, because maybe you'll look like a dummy and people will try to catch you because, hey, free dummy.
I'd like to see a nude opera, because when they hit those high notes, I bet you can really see it in those genitals.
Laurie got offended that I used the word "puke." But to me, that's what her dinner tasted like.
Instead of trying to build newer and bigger weapons of destruction, we should be thinking about getting more use out of the ones we already have.
Just because swans mate for life, I don't think its that big a deal. First of all, if you're a swan, you're probably not going to find a swan that looks much better than the one you've got, so why not mate for life?
If you're robbing a bank and you're pants fall down, I think it's okay to laugh and to let the hostages laugh too, because, come on, life is funny.
Sometimes I think I'd be better off dead. No, wait, not me, you.
I can't stand cheap people. It makes me real mad when someone says something like, "Hey, when are you going to pay me that $100 you owe me?" or "Do you have that $50 you borrowed?" Man, quit being so cheap!
I think the mistake a lot of us make is thinking the state-appointed shrink is our friend.
I hope life isn't a big joke, because I don't get it.

Being fair... One time there was a child reporting missing in Georgetown Ontario. This is the town wherein the Canadian Branch is located.
Bethel sent out about 100 Bethelites to assist in the search, especially in the ravine areas on the one side of the property.
I am not saying this is the normal procedure but it did happen once. I would also like to think that individual JW's might help out but it would definitely not be a JW coordinated or sponsored search.
Like Yeru, I don't see the JW tie-in to this report. Innuendo is not factual and does not help.

Hawk:
I had much the same thoughts as you regarding mortgages/deeds as well as the contribution boxes and 'donations" received door to door. The Publishers were specifically taught to state that these donations are towards the worldwide work. This means Bethel directed monies, not donations to the local charity (congregation).
When you walk into the main business lobby at bethel there is a contribution box on either side of the door. Also there is a contribution box in the literature pick up area and in the lobby of the residence.
On some days when a couple of busloads of tourists come up from the States there can easily be $1,000 US in the box. Bare minimum a couple hundred per week.
Re: Milty being the President. This was done as a result of the whole Salter situation so many decades ago. They always wanted to maintain some legal control over the Branches, thus the reason Milton is mentioned. It was Franz before, and Knorr before that. I am supposing they never thought that it might make them fiscally responsible or dare I say liable/culpable for what transpires at the Branch.. hmmmmmm
Have a great weekend

convicted rapist seeks parole.
I received a note from the reporter.
He commented that this rapist's mom is a JW so that is likely why he picked this religion. I corrected him (smirking)
He also commented that many people were in court today supporting the mother (and his JW mother as well -smirking yet again) who he presumed were from the Church. I referred him to Erica's case as well as the Berry case where the same thing happened.
Hopefully it may motivate him to look at the issue a little closer.

convicted rapist seeks parole.
The following is an excerpt of a letter I just sent to this reporter.
I read with great interest your article regarding this convicted rapist.
I am a former Jehovah's Witness that worked for some time within the headquarters of the Watchtower Society, the parent company of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Some media attention of late has been focussing on the problem of child abuse within the congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses. NBC Dateline revealed that a database exists with 23,000 names on it. Each name represents an allegation of child abuse against a Jehovah's Witness.
My concern for this man's release is two-fold. One, based on congregational rules, the congregation will not be advised of this man's past and will be 'encouraged' to welcome him into the congregation and into their homes. If they do not they will be looked upon as bad examples. Who is going to protect the kids in these congregations? The untrained clergy (Elders)? Not likely, since they treat child abuse as a spiritual problem not as a crime.
The second concern is that if this man is going to be considered a publisher in good standing within the congregation, as all baptised individuals are supposed to be, this means he will be told he MUST go door-to-door in the field ministry. Will the child opening the door to the two well dressed people on the doorstep be warned that this man is a convicted child rapist/molester? NO.
The fact that he found religion is irrelevant to his qualifications for parole. But the fact that he is one of Jehovh's Witnesses now, does put him into an environment where it will be easy for him to repeat and destroy more lives.

valis, the researching internet district overbeer, found this older post by skeptic.
i think it shows a pattern, but i leave that to judge for yourselves.
valis asked me to post it as he had run out of posts for the day.
Not taking sides but, a few comments:
Richard: I am somewhat surprised at all this but just don't get why the need to drag this out any further. You obviously felt justified initially but continuing it?? Is it really necessary? This all seems somewhat out of character from the guy I met some years ago in Ottawa.
LB: We have both made mistakes online. We have trusted the wrong people. That said I don't think you really are in a position for criticizing someone else on Internet behavior or protocol. I am not trying to throw past mis-deeds up nor will I likely ever post them, but the hypocrisy is a little distasteful.
Kismet - who hopes this ends soon, it is involving too many and likely hurting too many as well
looking for anyone from the st. cloud congregations (i was in the north one)...or surrounding areas.
oh heck, anyone from minnesota is fine!
I am not from Minnesota but met the Doolgars through a family memeber that used to live in that area. You would likely know him, especially if you knew Gopher.
Small world eh?
Hope to hear from you more.

if i seem out of it, for the next few days, it's because i fell down a flight of stairs, slipped on the carpeted stairs in my bare feet, and broke my tail bone, and split a toe open, and had to have stitches.
so i'm on heavey narcotics, and if you need to get ahold of me in any amount of time, then a phone call is the best bet.
ciao for now.
Scully:
Thanks for clarifying that. I had meant to include the reasoning for my caution against the pain meds (can cause constipation).
Always good to have a nurse around! Well most nurses anyway....
