The fellow who objected to his wife being called by her first name sounds like an insecure person who needed mental help.

The Beginning of Brother and Sister So and So
by Gary1914 indo any of you remember when they used to call the brothers and sisters by their first name from the platform?
the organization was much smaller then and much more intimate than it is today and since we were all "friends" we called each other by our first names even from the platform.. well all that changed one day.
the way i heard it was that some sister whose husband was not in the truth persuaded him to attend the meeting with her one day.

For instance one poster, presumably Caucasian, commented that he had married a Latina. I had mentioned in another post that the US Census had ruled that Latino is not a race but a culture since it spans a group that varies from black to white and shades in between.
Come on Marcos. This US Census "ruling" could apply to any ethnic group. There are very few African Americans that do not have an anglo ancestor. Even us anglos span a group that varies in skin shade. The Census people, I suspect, made a political judgement in this case. And yes, I am German on one side of the family and British Isles on the other side, so I suppose that makes me anglo. Bug

Why I'm Here...
by Sara Annie inso many stories from so many people.
i've read with them all with interest and sympathy, and felt that if i am going to stick around and be a productive member, i should probably tell my own.
i know i am not the only non-jw on this site, and i wanted to offer the perspective of a 'never-was' as to why i am here and participating in the discussions.

Welcome Sara,
I wouldn't recommend getting into a pitching contest as far as basic doctrine is concerned, but I would read Matthew 7:15 thru 20 to them and then ask about flip flops on doctrine, child abuse, coverups, lies, shunning etc. all of which can be researched on this forum. I've found the following link to be really valuable:

Nathan,
One reason catfish tastes so good now is because of catfish "farming." The have huge ponds where the fishes diet is controlled, unlike the bottom feeders in lakes. The catfish caught in those lakes tasted pretty good, but they were not even close to the good taste we get from the fish raised on farms. Bug

I Made it Through Hell Week
by Robdar ini made it through my first week without a cigarette.
it still seems odd that a cigarette is no longer the first thing i think of when i wake up.
this is the first time it has happened in 20 years.

Apparently a bunch of us are breathing a sigh of relief for you and your accomplishment of making it one week without smoking. People who have never smoked sometimes can't understand what we are talking about, but those of us who have smoked know exactly what this involves. Englishman is absolutly correct when he says to watch out for the temptation to try one now. Don't know about you, but I either smoked or I didn't, there was no in between. Bug
Congratulations !!!!
