The WTS has survived by setting doomsday dates for over 100 years. I hac some experience with one of those dates, 1975 and, believe me, it worked very well. Literature sales went thru the roof and the society, no doubt, made a lot of money. It's difficult to see how they can continue to survive unless the set another date for "doomsday."

Do " Bad News Religions" Sell Better?
by JH inprobably you all noticed that when disasters strike, news papers sell better.
the tsunami was a good example.
is it that people love to read bad news rather than good news?

I didn't love God enough to stop smoking
by embeth2525 inyesterday, i went to visit my friend, who is the jw that i was studying with and i told her about the problems i had had with the other congregation i had been in before.
i told her about how they had treated me not so very nice and how i had a terrible time, then quitting cigaretts.
i wasn't able to quit smoking back then, although i have since quit about 3 years now.

My friend told me that If I loved God enough I should have been able to quit smoking
I strongly suspect that your friend has never smoked or he/she wouldn't have made that statement. I've quit smoking and I've been thru military basic training. Given a choice of doing one or the other again I just might opt for basic training, quitting smoking was that difficult !!!
However, we all got ourselves into that addiction and it is possible to get ourselves free from smokes. You have proven it can be done by staying away for three years. .

Its Really Not the Night, It's the Meaning...
by Country Girl inpeople celebrate their birthdays, if they fall on a wednesday, on a friday.
the night that everyone is off of work and has time to have a party, have fun, and celebrate.
they don't celebrate it on the exact date, but close enough that everyone knows.

...and so what if it's really a PAGAN god's birth we're celebrating! We'll just pretend it's Jesus' birth. Yeah, that's it.
I've never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed, but in the words of Rickey Ricardo, you need to splain that one. Are there rules written somewhere that a birthday must be celebrated on the exact date of a persons birth? If it is the Pagan angle that's bad, well almost everything around us has ties to pagans, including the calander, wedding rings and a Mercury automobile. Merry Christmas Bug

Central Texas Panhandle reporting. We've been getting light snow since before daylight and it continues as I'm typing this. I would guess we have some four inches right now on the ground. and they are predicting some very cold weather tonight. Bug
