Mom slipped me an Awake magazine
by Mulan inlast week my mother gave me a woman's magazine that she had read at the home where she lives.
it had organization tips and recipes she thought i would enjoy.
i hadn't looked at it until two days ago, after she asked me if i had read it yet.

I read the articles, the first Awake articles that I've read in several years, and was struck by its simplicity. It was actually about on an 8th grade level and half the pages were pictures. There was nothing there that I haven't known for most of my adult life.
Where or who is the bone head that said reading the Awake was equal to a college education ?? Are there really people around who are dumb enough to believe that propaganda ?? No wonder the wts discourages college education.
On a more cheerful note, congratulations on losing ten pounds. Bug

I think my cat is a crack addict! :S
by Elsewhere inok, it isn't really crack... but it might as well be!.
i have to be very careful not to leave any plastic bags anywhere around my apartment or my cat will try to eat it.
i'm always paying close attention to the plastic bags that i bring home from the store... they all go straight in to a covered trash can so that the cat can't get them.. now, for the last two days he has been puking all over the place and i can't find any plastic that he might have been eating off of... but i am finding the plastic in his puke... so i know thats what is going one.

Lol Mary -does that mean he'd be shunned by all the JW cats?
When it is time to mate, cats tend to forget religious principals. Ok, so do humans much of the time.

I'm sorry I missed this thread but will try to make up for that oversight now.
I currently have a wife in the hospital with a broken leg and the Doctors are mystyified as to why the bone broke, so they have run every test known to try and determine the cause. Believe me I know what an emotional roller coaster you were on while waiting for the test results. Those results could have been worse so keep thinking good thoughts and hopefully the surgery will turn out fine. You obviously have a ton of support and that is a good thing.
The hospital my wife is in has a huge banner on one wall saying they are on that U.S. News and World Report list for three years in a row. All I can say they are on that list for a reason, they do run things very well. Also the employees are friendly and helpful, from the cleaning folks up to the Doctors. The point is, you are apparently in very good hands and that should give you an edge.
Keep thinking good thoughts and take care of yourself. Bug

I saw on television three women discussing the election and Zell Millers tald at the republican convention. One of them referred to Sen Millers statement about Dean not knowing anymore about the south than a hog knows about Sunday. One of the women asked "what does that mean? " That is a pretty simple statement, so who is really dumb here. Bug

stating that African Americans have at some point other "taken advantage" of preconceived notions about them perpetuates a stereotype. ...also I think the word "jiving" hasn't been used since the 1970s....

John Conally, former Texas Govener and Treasury secetary once said "I love dealing with folks who think they are smarter than me." Folks it's called shuckin. "we don need that in the contract, that ain't gonna hep either one of us."
Elsewhere, as far as George Bush is concerned, I once read that he made better grades in College than John Kerry. He has also proven that it is dangerous to "mis-under estimate" him. After all he is starting his second term as President. Ann Richards is one of those who thought Bush was dumb, so where the hell is Ann now.
Under74 hit the nail on the head, it's stereotyping, plain and simple. African Americans have put up with that for years and, at times, taken advantage of folks who have a pre-conceived notion about their smarts. One difference between them and white Texans, blacks call it Jiving. Obviously sterotyping anyone is strupid.
When Kerry lost to Bush some of his supporters started referring to fly over country and the dumb, uneducated hicks who inhabiti that area. Keep it up, it makes us angry and engergizes us to get more involved in the political process.
