We tuned into Nightline last night on the topic of Demonic Possession. It was pretty interesting. Then they got to the part where they interviewed David Mustaine from Megadeth.
He was talking about his belief in Satan and how the Devil's biggest lie was convincing people he didn't exist.As soon as he said that, my husband looked at me and said: "That guy sounds like he used to be a Jehovah's Witness!"
And sure enough... seconds later he spoke about being raised by a Jehovah's Witness mother.
Interesting!
Did anyone else watch it? I thought the part about the Agape Deliverance Church was very bizarre!
Coughing out demons into wads of paper towel and bags? Um.... yeeeaaahhh.... -

Well u guys r going to hate me but When my ex was in his teens he lived in a very creepy apartment in the basement of a house that his mother rented. At night he would hear whispering voices coming from behind the radiator. Playing outside one day he found a crawlspace hidden at the back of the house. He squeezed inside and found what he took to be a witches chamber. There were candles and tarot cards and I can't remember what else he said. Anyway, related to Marvin's post there was a strange cat that kept hanging around the entrance of their apartment. One night it was meowing and meowing at the top of the stairs. My ex went to see what was wrong and he swears the cat starting really yowling and he distinctly heard it say "gET OUT! GET OUUTT!"
He and his sister were horrified and he ran at the at and chased it away but he swears this story is true to this day...
Thoughts? Explanations?

Your View of Holidays and Their Origins
by headisspinning ini am very curious about something... for those of you who have left the organization but still follow the bible and consider yourself christian... what holidays and celebrations have you embraced?.
how do you rationalize celebrating despite your knowledge of 'pagan' origins?.
i was born and raised a jw so it would seem really strange for me to start celebrating christmas or hallowe'en or easter - maybe mother's or father's day wouldn't be such a stretch - but i would really like to hear your thoughts and the conclusions you've come to.. but i have to say i never got a satisfying answer as to why jws aren't allowed to celebrate birthdays - the explanation that it promotes greed or selfishness or that the only record in the bible of birthday celebrations involved murder - none of these really cut it for me.. thanks - his .

Sex at 14?
by headisspinning inhello all.... some of you have been following our story from the beginning - and even those of you who haven't should be able to relate to my quandary.... last week my 14 year old son told me he no longer wants to be a jw.
we laboured over telling his jw dad all week.
well, on friday night he finally came clean.. but in a bizarre and unexpected twist, after having sex with his girlfriend for the very first time - in his father's home that very afternoon.

Oh and one more thing - we do have him in some activities - he takes guitar lessons and practices all the time.
And he is in a band with his dad, sister and a couple friends and they perform in the summer as buskers.But the suggestion of more physical activities is a good one and I will try to think of something more along those lines too.
He has very little unsupervised time and his associations are closely watched. He's not allowed to just come and go as he pleases.
The afternoon tryst with his girlfriend occurred when he claimed to be sick and came home early from school before his dad got home from work.
But it's highly unusual for him to be home alone in the house or just hanging out with friends. -

Good morning all...
After reading over all of your advice and suggestions and hashing the situation out with a close friend I decided the most important priority as a parent is to clearly communicate the risks and realities my son is now facing if he chooses to continue being sexually active.
One of those very real possible outcomes is conceiving a child.I thing one of the best ways to learn a lesson is through hands-on, practical experience so on Saturday afternoon he is going to be spending 3 or 4 hours, on his own, with his 9 month old baby brother.
If you knew my oldest son you would understand why this is so perfect for him - although he likes his brother he won't even pick him up - he's very squeamish about it and this is going to really take him outside his comfort zone.When I told him my plan, he had a good chuckle but was really a good sport about it. He understands why I'm making him do this.
I think it's really true that kids feel loved when their parents 'discipline' them and honestly, despite what's going on, he is responding very well.His father - my ex - totally backed me up when he heard my plan. He is pretty much beside himself about the whole situation.
The fact that my son doesn't want to be a JW takes away any Biblical advice my husband could use so he's a little lost.Plus, he went through a similar experience growing up. Right around the same age he was involved with a worldy girl at school and although he didn't have sex, he said it was only a matter of circumstances that he didn't.
He clearly remembers what he was feeling and thinking and so he is very hesitant to alienate our son. I'm so thankful for that.Oh and the reason his father found out so soon is my son actually told him first. And yes, his dad did approach one elder, but thankfully that elder is going to give our son some room and not jump down his throat right away.
Thankfully, our son is only an upbaptized publisher - thanks goodness!Also, I had to approach my son about some very troubling evidence that my ex found. I won't go into detail but it indicated that not only was this girl very likely not a virgin as she claimed... she is also pretty darn nasty.
(Trust me - be happy that I'm sparing you the graphic details). I told my son that I felt like crying having to be so blunt but again, he was really good about it and wanted to hear what I had to say.
He got on the phone immediately after and confronted his girlfriend. So, I feel a whole lot better about that too.Anyway, thanks to all of you for your amazing support and care. It's truly remarkable!

I totally agree Yknot... I believe there is a whole lot missing at home. This girl has more facial piercings than my son can count... don't get me wrong, I think piercings can be cool... but it really makes me question her parents for allowing their daughter to do that at such an early age.
I would guess they are either very permissive or just not around and uninvolved.I know very little about the family - my son told me she is native which isn't a problem in itself. But what concerns me is that he said she comes from a rough family. There are many rough native families where we live and sadly many of the common issues include extreme alcoholism and child abuse.
I am not judging this girl either - but I am alarmed and I hope that my son isn't getting himself into a real disaster here. Our city is plagued with social issues - many families come straight of reserves and are not equipped for the change in lifestyle.The suggestion of a family counselor is great. I will speak with my own therapist and see if there's someone he can suggest.
