I particularly found that the further away from the end of the Cold War we got, the harder the stuff in that book was to swallow.

Remember the Revelation book?
by wozza ini recall when it was released ,that's when i was a drone, how excited i felt at the prospect of reading it and formulating ways to sell it at the homes in my area.. i thought, finally a book to explain the last book in the bible and indeed one that the churches seemed to want to leave alone!.
i sold quite a few probably because of my enthusiasm and can still remember clearly the first day when i went knocking on doors with it ,and it's been decades since.. but over time it lost it's shine and my mind started to question the explanations in it due to the scene of other things being changed in the jw beliefs.. do you remember they flogged that book so many times in the book studies even when it was found to have "newer light " eclipsing it!.
who else remembers the printed pages with the official corrections to insert into the book ,so many that the book collapsed to be of no relevance anymore really.....what an embarrassment!.

G.B of JW`s trusting in Jehovah ? or Trusting in Men When It Comes To A Crunch !
by smiddy3 injehovah`s witnesses have taken it upon themselves that they have been chosen by god to be his witnesses in what they believe to be the last days ,the time of the end spoken of by the prophets of old.. they are on record as stating in their publications that it is their calling and duty to preach this message of announcing jehovah`s kingdom loud and clear publicly and from house to house even when under ban.. which they have done on many occasions in the past putting their trust in jehovah .. taking to heart acts ch.5 : 17- 32 which states in a nutshell ," we must obey god as ruler rather than men " .
they are also on record that the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one satan the devil to mislead all mankind.. this includes all governments ,religious leaders ,economic, and social systems ,they have even stated that the united nations was a counterfeit kingdom in opposition to the kingdom of god for the benefit of mankind.. so what do we see today ?
true , we have a pandemic with this covid-19 virus that is wreaking havoc in the worlds health systems causing death to many people on a scale not seen since the spanish flu pandemic a century ago.. now i`m just speaking from a jehovah`s witness mindset here,to put there money where their mouth is.

LongHairGal - "They have no choice but to comply with the secular authorities. If they did not, could you imagine the shitstorm that would come down on them??..They’d be accused of being harmful to the world around them and possibly spreading whatever..."
Agreed.
Ten bucks says that since they won't/can't budge on the pedo problem and the Rising Tide of related lawsuits, their lawyers have advised them that their tax exemption is in too precarious a position for them to risk jabbing "Satan's World" in the eye on this particular issue.
Which, once again, begs the real question...
...just how dependent on its tax-exemption IS the Org?

Keeping everyone on the hook
by hoser ini’ve always noticed that the local jw leaders like to give as little notice as possible for local meetings and expect you to drop everything and rearrange your life to fit their agenda in.
i’ve noticed this more during the pandemic.
we are not given the codes and time of memorial until a couple hours before meeting.

Ten bucks says they're priming the rank-and-file to "go underground" after they've finally jabbed "Satan's World" in the eye one too many times, and the leadership inevitably
rapturesbuggers off to Switzerland or something. -

Evidence of WT bad intent - How they handled changing the meaning of "porneia"
by AlainAlam insorry, long post :) i'm considering evidence that at least at some point, the gb/watchtower had bad intentions.
i would like to share the following: *** w74 11/15 p. 703 questions from readers ***do lewd practices on the part of a married person toward that one’s own mate constitute a scriptural basis for the offended mate to get a divorce?there are times when lewd practices within the marriage arrangement would provide a basis for a scriptural divorce.. based on this, some jw chose to divorce.
but then:*** w83 3/15 p. 30 honor godly marriage!

I suspect that they'd simply go with the stance that would result in the least amount of legal divorces (regardless of individual personal consequences), because having a lower divorce rate than "Christendom"'s religions would make them look better to potential recruits.

the girl next door - "'...WTBTS know well that with the taste of freedom and the bliss that comes from not going to meetings/FS they're going to lose a bunch of publishers when all is said and done..."
Agreed.
I always get a chuckle out of this particular aspect of WT "authority"...
..."growth=God's blessing" has always been an integral component of the JW worldview, but I've long suspected that deep down, the Org actually wants to downsize the rank-and-file to a more streamlined and manageable size (like it's downsizing everything else).
The urge to keep as many members still in vs. the overarching need to prune out the "lukewarm" must feel uncomfortably conflicting.

How to CYA (cover your ass) Watchtower style
by eyeuse2badub intoday’s watchtower article was the ultimate cya.
for friggin’ decades all we heard was that as armageddon gets nearer and nearer, the number of the ‘great crowd’ will increase and the number of the “little flock” will decrease!
in fact, it was one of the proofs that the end was near!.

I've long wondered if the quiet-but-steady increase in recent partakers may actually be the result of woken-up still-ins who are doing it just to futz with that stats...

Do you have any evidence that the GB had bad intent?
by AlainAlam indo you have any evidence that the gb had bad intent?
as opposed to blind faith/cognitive dissonance and honest mistakes.. i'm inclined to think they have the best of intentions and are just wrong (primarily because the bible is wrong), but i'm willing to consider the evidence otherwise..

A good rule of thumb to remember...
...every decision... every decision...
...is made with the ultimate goal of reinforcing the fiction that the WTS is "God's Exclusive Earthly Organization"...
...because by their own ideology and reasoning, if a religion is not "God's Exclusive Earthly Organization", its very existence is illegitimate...
...i.e. "false".
Without that underlying premise, there is virtually no significant incentive to even BE a Jehovah's Witness.

Medical Supplies - Please Help Me Understand the Rationale About States Bidding Against Each Other
by RubaDub ini really don't understand why states have to bid against each other for essential items such as medical supplies.
when you get into bidding wars, the consumers are the ones who lose.. put 50 people in an auction for a product and the one who wins is the manufacturer, not the ones purchasing.. my wife works for a multi-national corporation.
if she is importing or exporting goods, she doesn't determine what the costs will be; this is already determined through the corporate offices that negotiate worldwide movement of products.

In a lot of ways, the US was a nation created by businessmen, for businessmen...
...it's practically become an integral component of the country's DNA at this point.
Is it really any wonder, that virtually everything is conducted in a businesslike fashion, up to and including "bidding" for resources?

As far as I'm concerned, "sticking to the script" is just one more example of their transition to a full-on e-religion with canned talks, cycling login passwords, and a mandatory monthly membership renewal.
Which just makes the exodus that much easier, IMO.
