A connective thread...
by Vidiot ini'd been doing some thinking a bit about the old organ-transplant ban, lately, and something occurred to me.... despite what some may feel, i think it's pretty obvious that the gb's decisions are dictated by pragmatic, real-world circumstances for more than any other factor.
a while back someone here (can't remember who) suggested that transplants might have been re-labeled a "conscience matter" because a gb member or his relative urgently needed one at the time, and for some reason, this idea stuck in my head.. its been a fairly well-documented fact that there were a small number of jws who had died because they dutifully obeyed the transplant ban prior to its lifting in 1980. not many, mind you; the reason being is that historically, far fewer individuals have needed transplants compared to those who have needed transfusions (emergency or otherwise).. as few and far between as those instances were, there had to have been at least some blowback in the years following that re-label; america is, after all, a pretty litigious society compared to the rest of the world (no offense).
xjws know more than most, however, that lawsuits end with settlements far more often than they do with verdicts; it saves time, legal fees, but more importantly, it minimizes bad pr for higher-profile plaintiffs.. how much of a stretch is it to suggest that - at the time - the wts' lawyers pragmatically advised the gb to discretely settle out-of-court with any of those possible litigants; particularly specifying confidentiality clauses?.

Something occurred to me
by Vidiot inthe conti case is a game-changer; that much is certain.. its also pretty certain (to a lot of us at jwn, anyway) that the wts:.
believes they have the moral high ground and thusly are in the right.... arent going to significantly change their child abuse-related policies any time soon.... dont really think theyll actually lose their appeal.. .
it should be obvious to anyone by now that one of the most significant and unavoidable characteristics of hierarchal, authoritarian religions (no matter what faith template they subscribe to) is a deeply entrenched problem of sexual victimization, especially of children and young people.

Um.. hi, everyone
by Vidiot in...again.... ...despite the fact that i doubt anyone here will even really remember me, i actually feel kinda embarrassed coming back here after just up and stopping over a year ago with nary an explanation; its a long story... suffice it to say, my life kinda went to hell in a handbasket, but its a little bit back on track, now, plus my immediate family (excluding my devout jw mom) is just as out as me.
thats something.. i never stopped missing the conversations i had here, and started lurking again shortly before the wtss current shitstorm got started.
id forgotten my password, though, and only just figured out what it was again.. one thing about leaving jwn i feel really bad about was the fact that i made a really good friend in poopsiecakes, and then suddenly cut off all contact; i owe her a huge apology and a decent explanation (assuming shes ever willing to speak with me again).. .

Something's been on my mind...
by Vidiot in..., and while i usually contribute in a thread that's already been created, i thought this particular topic might warrant it's own.. like many of you, on friday i was persusing the "concerned elder speaks" thread about higher-ed and the gb's ross/rachel relationship with it, and a couple of posts caught my eye:.
room 215 - "that's it, boys; alienate the remaining elders, drive them to resign and exacerbate the shortage already underway.".
baltar447 - "it's like they want fewer elders and servants.".

Thought I'd introduce myself...
by Vidiot ini'm "vidiot", born-in but a three years-plus fader, a six-month-ish lurker (after i initially worked up the huevos to check this place out, i kept coming back for "booster shots"), and would probably be labelled an "apostate" by any jc who bothered to track me down and persuade me to run off at the mouth.
i'm up on all the dramarama, i've read coc and and ad, and nobody here needs to fill me in on anything.
i do have some "life story" stuff, but it's rather dull (compared to some).. * a quick shoutout to fellow canadians lady lee and outlaw (one of the funniest posters i've ever encountered).. anyways, the main reason i'm finally announcing myself is that lately there's a few questions/wonderings i've had, and i was hoping that the really deep thinkers here (metatron, wtwizard, mary, dogpatch et.
