Indifferent OR Ignorant???

something has always puzzled me about the jw's.

one word...history.

on one hand they can (and do) cite every infraction/mistake/screw up of every other denomination since the beginning of time but refuse to look at their own.

Something has always puzzled me about the JW's. One word...HISTORY. On one hand they can (and do) cite every infraction/mistake/screw up of every other denomination since the beginning of time BUT refuse to look at their own.

How is it possible to refer to others as "pagan" and NOT acknowledge their own extremly PAGAN history and doctrines. Didn't C.T. Russell practice: numerology, pyramidology, astrology and phreneology? Isn't this the "foundation" of many core beliefs, such as 1914? From what I've read, Russell's intention was to create a hybrid of paganism and Christianity...complete with occultic symbols (winged solar disk/pagan Egyptian sun god) on the original "Studies in the Scriptures." How could this be divinely inspired? I asked my new JW mom about this. I honestly believe I know more about the origins of the JWs than she does. How is this possible??? How can most protestants ex: Lutherans know more about a man living in the 1400's than the JW's know of a man who lived just one hundred years ago??? If the "Truth" is the Truth...wouldn't it be important to educate new converts of the "Truth's" founder?

Does this strike anyone else of being just a tad 1984/Orwellian or what? If their history is so obviously insignificant to them...why is everyone elses history so important?

Why Are People Here So Disrespectful At Times?

eu has noticed that a number of persons making up this forum are guilty of showing disrespect to jehovah's witnesses.

some refer to jws as 'hovahs and others talk about kingdumb hells, all the time professing to follow christ.. some may justify their rude behavior by saying that jws themselves can be rude.

even if the charge is true, and eu is not really convinced that it is, why cannot ex-jws rise above the fray?

Ok...but I do have a question. Prior to my mom becomming a JW, I had never heard so many "labels." I'm telling you, I had to learn a whole new vocabulary to understand who (in her mind) was "worthy" of her association, friendship and acknowledgement. If mutual respect is something we all should strive for, wouldn't it help not to call people "apostates?" If someone from my church decided I didn't measure up, dissagreed or whatever and felt justified in calling me an "apostate" who would be the immature and weak one?

Never been a JW, so maybe you will not respect my opinion but from my outsider-looking-in perspective...respect, is earned. People generally GET what they GIVE. If a person's religious orientation is one of pious superiority, with some percieved divine approval(of course), see themselves as "special" label/judge others "inferior" ex: so-called Christians, Christiandom, Babylon, pagan, worldlies, bad-associations, DA'd, DF'd, Satan's follower's/tools...whatever... people will generally return the favor. Just my observation.

i mean in addition to being a pedophile paradise of course.. if you tell a country (mexico) that you are a cultural organization, don't use the bible, or sing, or pray, and you do it for money, then what are you?

i mean you hate all cultures of "the world" so you lied about being a cultural organization, you aren't a religion or you wouldn't have denied your god, your bible, and your prayers.

i guess when you consider the deals made in bulgaria, and the rapid hiding of resources and then campaigning to change the votes in france you could qualify as a political organization.

Ok...now I'd like to share with you guys that I've been listening to my mom RANTING about the Catholics for MONTHS now. She doesn't miss any opportunity (no matter how small or inappropriate) to "witness" to me. I usually agree with her that ANY pedophile is a sick bastard that deserves to be persecuted to the fullest extent of the law. She wholeheartedly AGREES and thinks the Catholic church is "evil" for attempting to handle their own affairs. HELLO!!! How is moving Father sicko to the next parrish any different than allowing Brother likes-em-young to go door knocking??? She is often mesmerized by news related stories...and if ABC,NBC,CBS,MSNBC, or whatever is broadcasting a story about corruption in the Catholic church, she "uses" this information to reinforce the "horrible state of the world." I've NEVER heard her say that the media is satan's "tool" UNLESS it is something that makes the JW's look bad. She about had a fit when the news mentioned the JW connection regarding the Bryant and Longo cases...now Dateline. PERSECUTION!!! Talk about wanting it both ways.

Migraines anyone?

yesterday (memorial day) i awoke to a slow, dull, thudding headache.

it wasn't terribly bad...i ignored it really.

neil fixed me a brunch of bacon and eggs and we sat down to eat around 12:30 or so.

Unfortunately YES I have experience with these miserable headaches. Run, do not walk to your doctor. Here's my story. I've suffered for years with these,usually only 3 or 4 times a year. If I wasn't in pain, I figured why bother going to the doctor. However, the last episode was a doosie. I thought I could drive my daughter to her dentist appointment...was I WRONG. We got there and after I checked her in, I had to wait in the car, I was throwing up in the parking lot for over an hour(cute) and driving back home was extremely dangerous. I couldn't see clearly and the nausea and dizziness was overwhelming, it was a wonder I made it home. Sometime after that whopper of a headache I began to notice eye twitches and other little muscular twitches that simply wouldn't go away (weeks on end). I finally made an appointment with the doctor, I didn't connect these two symptoms at all. He asked me a ton of questions and come to find out...migraine headaches can cause enough neurological pressure, that you can suffer from a slight degree of pinched nerves (causing the twitching). He asked me why I didn't have a prescription. I really don't know why I waited to get one! He gave me Maxalt (dissolves on the tongue) and told me to NEVER drive OR wait too long to take the med. It is in my purse, just incase. As far as symptoms go, I do experience the "aurua" or lights. My vision becomes blurry and light (especially tv's and monitors) is VERY uncomfortable. That is what first clues me in on it NOT being an ordinary headache. The second clue is that asprin, tylennol, excedrin migraine...whatever....don't even touch this kind of headache. The severity of this headache and your INABILITY to function, accompanied by nausea/vomitting are all classic signs of migraine. Please see your doctor and get a sample of Imitrex or Maxalt. It sure beats ending up in the emergency room.

while relaxing with my morning java at the local coffee joint i suddenly noticed window-washing equipment moving across the glassed surfaces of the restaurant.

yes, there was one of the local j-dubs hard at it.

the strange thing was the height of his helper ... about the height of an 8-year-old.

OK, in my quest to better understand JW's...another educational question occured to me. Why don't the JW's have their own affiliated schools? Many Christians send their children to Christian schools, again another viable option. Some denominations are known for their "own" schools, the Catholics and Lutherans come to mind. With the JW determination to avoid "bad associations" you'd think this would be the ticket. Then again, maybe not...private schools = tuitions. Just a thought.

actually, i was her supervisor and there is one thing that never made sense to me.

she would aggressively attempted to "witness" to everyone (my supervisor had to eventually tell her to cool it) well, everyone pretty much respected her beliefs and knew better than to invite her to any birthday celebrations, etc.

Is it me or is there a great divide between WORD and DEED? If something were so reprehensible to me and my beliefs...I wouldn't belly up to the trough, know what I mean?
