been lurking here for yyyyyeeeeears, but was too busy with school, jw life and other interests.
now that i'm done with education for the time being anyway, plus the jw life is under pretty good control, i can spend some time and throw my views here and there in some attractive topics.. born-in, and deeply indoctrinated, but with life experience came better comprehension of my lot in life and have come to accept that, just like the family one is born into, jws are my family, friends, my ultimate and overall identity.
a jw is what i am; like the song 'hotel california', and like so many on this board, check out anytime you'd like but one could never leave.. remember like it was yesterday the failed 'the wolf is coming' calls of 1975, mid-80s, late 90's, y2k, 2004 or so, and same will be with the latest effort to get people overly excited about 'the end'.

Yes, this would never have been tolerated in the old days. They would all be reproved for "conduct unbecoming a Christian" and not keeping Jehovah's house clean and spotless from the world. Kingdom Halls are all dedicated to furthering Jehovah's Kingdom and not for anything that would be considered fun. I am so glad I am out.
1- pray to god (whomever you may imagine him to be) asking for understanding.
2- study the background about the bible (from non-religious sources) to see where it came from.
3- discard (or at least set aside) chuyrch claims and dogma.. 4- read it, looking up archaeological/historical sources about the places and peoples referred to.

while i'm glad i found this site, it has also crumbled to bits everything i've believed in my whole life.
i feel like the certainty, magic and wonder has gone out of my life.
this has left a huge hole in my soul.
I felt the same way since leaving almost four years ago, up until recently. Now I feel ok about it. Once I accepted that the Bible is not and could not be Gods word, my search lead me to atheism. Find a cause you believe in and get involved. For me it is educating others about the truth about Jehovah's Witnesses and politics.
