My dad is shunning me, too!
This happens since I became a JW.
I hate the world!
well this was no surprise to me that my dad was doing this.
m df brother went round last night to borrow some tools and my dad just had to mention that he was dissapointed with the family and how we don't go to the meetings anymore.
he told my brother that he could not have a proper farther son relationship as he does not share the same faith and hope for the future as him, and if an emergencey situation was to present it'self then he would be their for him.
My dad is shunning me, too!

I hate the world!
is this the best of all possible worlds?.
if it isn't, wouldn't that be the best possible proof that a benevolent and all-powerful deity had nothing to do with creating it?.
if a loving and benevolent creator was going to create a world--why make one with a built-in self-destruct mechanism??.
I'm talking about an OPTION to screw it up....why allow that OPTION in?
That option is called FREE WILL.
Unless you want to be a robot, of course.
i used to live in a part of england that was popular with tourists.
the kind of tourist who wanted to experiance the "real" rural england.
they would come to my town and thrill at the quaint old shops, delight in afternoon tea at the many little tea rooms.
I wasn't talking about jw parents, but about parents in general, do you think your parents would love you the same if you would be a junky and spent all their money on drugs? No, they wouldn't.
If you would have gone to Harvard and made a great career and a lot of money afterwards they would have been prouder of you, probably love you more.
If parents behave like that, why do we expect from a group of strangers - the congregation - to behave differently?
In the end the world in general behaves like a cult - if you breake the rules, in any society, you are shunned, at work, at school, on your street.

To have the love and acceptance of a congregation, you have to kiss a lot of butt,
Why want the love of the congregation?
In the world, do you have the love and acceptance of the people, no you don't, I don't, noone has it without doing something that others want you to do, even your parents won't love you if you don't do - to some degree- what they expect from you.
Why expect so much from the congregation?
there is no such thing as uncondtional love
Totally agree, but that is not only true for the witnesses, but also for the people in the world, just as the Bible said,
(Matthew 24:12)

Sorry for making that assumption, "in typical JW style".
I read your post again, and in a way I can relate, I don't like the congregation I am in and I had some problems with the elders. But still, I learned that in a congregation of 60-70 people, even if most are unfair and unkind, you can still find one or two with whom you can develop some kind of frienship (I say some kind because you can't tell them everything on your mind), and if you don't find them in your congregation, you can find them in another congregation or in the world.
Besides, the world is not made of JWs only, they are maybe 1 or 2 percent of the population in each country. I think that you associate the pain of being treated badly by jw's with the entire region where you lived. You shouldn't, really, it's not worth it, they aren't worth it.
But since you feel like that about England, I'm glad you found your place and your peace and that you fell happy where you live now.

Let me understand this, you say England is poisoned for you, because of the bad memories you have- those bad memories are just in the field service or do you mean bad memories as being a JW in general?
Because if those bad memories are in the field service, i don't think we should let ourselves influenced and affected so much because they reject the truth.
Of course, I know it's easy to speak, but I was too affected by this when I started to go in field service, then, in time I began to be so untouched by the people rejecting that I did not care anymore about it and about them, and I only kept in mind the reactions that were nice, even now, if I want to remember exactly what a person who rejected said, I realy don't, because I don't care. I don't think we should take it personal when somebody rejects the truth. - even though, it might not be the whole truth that they reject.
I just think of the field service as a chance to tell people that it is not God's fault for what is happening in the world today, that He will change things for humankind same day. I'm not even sure I want them to become witnesses, I just think that knowing the truth about God, having the answer to some existential questions and having hope for a better future will make their life better and easier in this world.
i cannot take credit for any of the gems below but i did want to polish and organize them.
much of the information was borrowed from this thread.
if you can come up with any more, please post them.. the bible does not ban birthdays.
Totally agree. Celerating birthdays should not be an issue to condamn other, each should be free to do as she/he pleases in this matter.
I think the same about toasting at a party/ gathering. For me toasting is a gesture of friendship, of wishing the best to somebody, I don't think anybody theese days thinks of a spirit that might be in the glass and that goes away when you click the glasses, or of who might know fake god from the pagan religions - as the WT explain why a JW should not take part to a toast.
If we are not allowed to keep birthdays and take part at a toast, we should also not wear wedding rings. Wedding rings have much more pagan origins than birthdayparties and toasts.
i have such a love/hate, 50/50 relationship with this organization any more, but a letter was read to the elders and ministerial servants that has pushed me to the 30/70 range in favor of hate, if even momentarily.
most of you if not all are aware of the auxilliary pioneering initiative for this upcoming april.
it's no secret that i'm not real fond of pioneering as its unscriptural for one thing.
thanks
I've heard that there are no President Overseers any more, but I didn't know it was just a change of name/title.

What is COBOE?
I assume that CO is circuit overseer, but COBOE????
growing up as a jw i always imagined the new system (tm) as being just like it's presented in the literature (tm).
i thought we'd all be hanging around with dorky looks on our faces, petting tigers and panda bears all day while we eat fruit and practice our dorky grins.. i've never seen a pic from the society (tm) showing cars or planes (or other forms of transport) in the literature (tm).
what did you imagine as far as transportation in the new system (tm)?
Of course there will be cars in the new system. I think in time the new world will be a high tech society.
