this is my first post here, so i guess i should introduce myself j i'm a 19-year-old college student in baltimore, maryland.
i was involved with jws on and off for about 4 years and, after being baptized for a little over a year, i stopped attending meetings.
although my time as a jw was very brief (compared to the decades many people have spent in the organization) it is amazing how much my experience as a jw has affected my life.

Congratulations for learning what many of us wish we did at such an early age. When I was 19 I was getting married and thought this *system* would be long gone before I hit 30. College was the furthest from my mind. Well, that's all changed now and I figured some things out too—thankfully before I spent my entire youth serving men.

has any one here ever been hypnotised?.
i'm intrested in whether there is a link to repetative meetings and book studies and hypnotism.. hypnosis is defined as a "sleep like state in which people are open suggestion and will act how they are told to.".
can this wok over a long term period , such as the years in the "truth' or only on a short term basis like in a hypnotists show?.

Those cards sound interesting. I've been thinking of attending a guided meditation session at a *new age* place in a nearby town just to see what the experience is like. Don't know if I'll dig it or not—but the freedom to explore is nice. I haven't gone yet because I've yet to get up the courage to go on my own...been trying to get my sis to go with me. Maybe I should just do it, eh?
for once i will try to post a serious topic so here goes.... most of us here have rejected most if not all of the jw teachings.
i (as well as most of you) certainly do not believe that armaggedon will arrive someday in the future and everybody who is not a jw will die and the witnesses that are left will rebuild the earth.. so, the question i have is this: what do you think happens when you die?.
do you go to heaven or hell?

Teachings on Love sounds like an interesting book I'd like to read. I've read a book or two by the Dali Lama and am still working on learning *how* to meditate. All in time...
It seems as if the classes you've been taking and the books you've been reading have been working out well for you. I'd be interested in reading comments from others if they have read the book too.

the bryant tragedy has really been stuck in my head and heart this week as i'm sure it has been for all of us.
it occured to me though that there may be some here or lurking that do not understand what made robert do what he did.
there may be some who think that his was an isolated incidence of severe untreated mental illness and have nothing to do with his being disfellowshiped.
then i logged onto to the computer and found an xjw site and here i am more at peace and more full of hope and dreams for the future than ever before.

I am very happy to know that you are starting to see your life through "new" eyes. Like many of us, you will realize in your own time that your life is just beginning and there is so much out there to explore, learn, love, and do! It's a wonderful feeling...isn't it?

sharon like her sister janet was also raised a jw.
she left the religion three years ago just about the same time as robert and janet.
her husband is not a jw but did attend the occasional meeting.

it is hard for me to transcibe certain feelings into written words especially since i'm not what you would consider to be a real emotional person.
i have also mastered the art of rarely showing any outward emotional expression.
i will try and do my best to give you some of the feelings i experienced today through my eyes, so please bare with me.. i drove the hour to mcminnville which is a small town about forty miles south of portland.
