Now, the real challenge, would be to get someone to review these before we actually have the study.

Catching the Manipulation in Sundays Watchtower Article
by Butterflyleia85 ininspired by many on jwn board, my goal is to every sunday study the article and find the manipulative parts.
if you would like to join me that would be great!
we can then find them together and then find what the scriptures or insights truly means with research, our own understanding, or maybe how it should be interpreted to ones self.

How did Jesus and his apostles make money?
by sabastious injesus and his apostles were once found eating other people's wheat yield.
however the law in question was reported to be the sabbath; so it must not have been considered stealing?.
regardless, how did they earn money?

Outright Misrepresentations of Quotes and Citations in Watchtower Literature
by Londo111 inthe research of doug mason, annomaly, and others have been eye opening in regards to the society's recent articles on 607 bc.
what i find most disturbing is the misrepresentations of scholars, who are quoted in such a way to say one thing, when they meant something completely different.
it is one thing to teach a doctrine, and quite another to play fast and loose with the truth.

I think I'll write a letter to them about it. I'll show it to my dad first, so he can see how crooked they are. Then when they don't respond, or they go into damage control mode, he can witness the abuse. The response will be, "That's nice, but the understanding is...", while completely ignoring the contradicting evidence, followed by a letter/call to my BOE advising them to yank me into "the bad room" so they can interrogate me as to why I'm giving into "foolish and ignorant questionings." (2 Timothy 2:23)

Don't forget, leavingwt, it's a miracle that the organization survives. It's proof of Jehovah God's backing. Can you believe that all of the money comes from voluntary donations? These people are better at scraping together cash than Jesus.

Interestingly, the Jehovah's Witnesses doctrine on The Cross is the first thing I can ever remember questioning. I was 17 or 18 years old. I remember thinking that it was silly that we made such a big deal out of it, and that in my World History classes in school we never heard about The Roman Empire hanging anyone on a stake - they crucified people. Why would Jesus be an exception to that rule?
Without even researching the doctrine thoroughly, it has always been my position that The Watchtower was making a big deal out of it for no reason. This week, I have spent some time researching this (jwfacts; WT Articles (AND THE SOURCES THEY QUOTE!)) and have discovered that the idea is completely fabricated. It's a real shame that they would take the time to lie about something that is so insignificant. For what? To be different? Even if they didn't agree with scholarly research, wouldn't the humble course have been to say, "We aren't sure, and it's not important to salvation, so draw your own conclusion"?

Magwitch,
You would be welcome to take anything from my house and replace it if you were watching my pets! But, I come from a southern background and have been raised to show that sort of hospitality. Unfortunately, not everyone is like that. My wife, for instance, is a pretty stingy person (but otherwise a very lovely person!). She works very hard to overcome it, but her natural inclination is not to share with others. She would have a meltdown about something like this if you were not first given her permission, or didn't at least ask ahead.
I think you are right to have a poor opinion of the person for their reaction. Sounds like someone I wouldn't go out of my way to be friends with...

In the LAST DAYS (mockers, scoffers) ridiculers will come saying:
by Terry in(2 peter 3:1-13) ... niv....."in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.they will say, where is this coming he promised?
ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.
waaaaay back when these words were written an embarassing awareness of delay was in the air among christians.. shortly after jesus was executed the story was circulated that he arose from the dead and was witnessed by a great many people.. but, jesus (it was said) went up to his father in heaven and would soon return.. time passed.. more time passed.. ....and still more time passed without jesus coming back.. the idea that deliverance was "near" began to make believers squirm with discomfort.. instead of standing around waiting, enduring persecution and praying constantly for reward....a new task emerged for christians to take.

If Jesus knew it meant our everlasting life to put faith in this stuff, he could have been a hell of a lot clearer about it. There should be no room for interpretation with something that serious.

I have been reading one of Ehrman's books and was just thinking this morning that I should look at an opposing viewpoint just be sure I wasn't developing a biased attitude about the subject. Unfortunately, I am still rather ignorant of Biblical Scholarship, but it's amazing how much more you can learn from reading the book of one scholar, than you would ever learn from reading 100 of The Society's publications.
Thanks!
