Taking Back the Holidays
by Quendi inwith canada having observed its own thanksgiving day, i am reminded that the holidays are approaching beginning with halloween and terminating with twelfth night on 5 january.
this will be an interesting holiday season for me.
when i became one of jehovah's witnesses, i gave them all up of course.

@ Quendi-I feel much the same about christmas,thanksgiving and birthdays. I'm still in but plan on celebrating with my family(non witless) anyway. I have suffered from depression for many years at this time of year. This year WILL be different no matter the cost. I appreciate all of your posts. You have brought a smile in the sadest moments.

Some pretty blatant stuff coming up in bookstudy
by agent zero inso i was reading ahead in the bookstudy book "bearing thorough witness" about god's kingdom, and i came upon some shockingly direct damage control on behalf of the gb in the material for the upcoming weeks.. on page 104: what a privilege it is to be instructed and molded by our patient and kind heavenly father!
the results are always good and always to our advantage.
so let us never proudly push ahead with our own ideas or react negatively to organizational changes or to adjusted explanations of certain scriptures.

What Do You Like For A Drink?
by minimus ini'm usually a cognac drinker.
i love armagnac too.
and i enjoy a martini i invented---mandarin vodka with a slight bit, usually about a capful of chambord served in an ice cold martini glass.. this saturday i'm mixing with my gf's friends and family in conn. with some affluent people and i might want to try something different.

I'm new here..... Studying with the Witnesses
by PenelopePaige inhi- i just wanted to say that i have been checking the website out for a few weeks and have read some horror stories and some sad ones.
but i have been studying with witnessess for about six months and can't help but feel that they're completely sincere and maybe even, the true religion.
i love the watchtower and awake and to me, none of that seems crazy.

I like you enjoyed the literature. And your right if everyone followed some of the direction the world would be a better place. But please carefully consider advice given here.
I started studying about 15 years ago and it seemed to be just what i needed. But,once you're in and are baptized OH BABY! Please listen to your husband. I'm in the biggest turmoil because of still being in. I have friends in the organization that i truly care about but WILL no longer have if i leave,and i will leave. It's like being in a bad marriage that an individual can't seem to escape. And believe me because i have become inactive in field service and no longer in the theocratic ministry school i am looked done on. I'm really not trying to make this about me. Please listen to your instincts.
The people here really do care....in my opinion.

My 16 year Old is Having Surgery Tomarrow
by lovelylil inboy am i glad we are not witnesses anymore.
my son is having two large cysts removed tomarrow, they are in sort of a delicate area.
because of where they are located, the potential for heavy blood loss is high.

J-Dub Gossip: How Do/Did You Handle It?

i know it's stupid to worry about what will be said about me once i'm "out," but it kills me inside.
of course, that doesn't mean that i don't already deal with my fair share of gossip as it is while still "in.

I like you already Dario! I'm thinking in time you won't care so much about their gossip. There's gossip everywhere, but I have found it is harder to bare coming from people who calm they "follow Jesus' example" and have the superior attitude that many jw's have.....just sayin. Hoping you all the best in the rest of your BETTER life!!!

Three years ago TODAY !
by wobble init's my anniversary !!!.
i just realised that three years ago, on 25th march 2008, i walked out of the kingdom hall and thought, "i can never go back".
it was a strange and worrying feeling that night, i knew (or thought) i was heading for being df'd, i had been in for 58 years, all my extended family were in, all my life-long friends were in, all my social circle were in, and as i walked away , i knew jw life was at an end, and i would have to start a new life from scratch... it is the most wonderful decision i have ever made in my life, second only to when i impulsively asked my girlfriend of a few months to marry me, she did, the fool, and we are still together after 40 years.. i have enjoyed immensely the feeling of relief, freedom and excitement that has been with me since i left, my journey since leaving has been a fascinating one of exploring ideas and visiting different religion's services, learning about evolution, philosophy, critical thinking, etc.etc.. three years well spent, and the rest of my life in freedom !!
