Assembly
by dothemath indragged to the convention, the speaker was from the canada bethel.. one of his talks went into the refugees not being welcome, and some countries attitude toward foreigners in general, and even mentioning acts of genocide.. he contrasted this with the bible, and showed the scripture where israelites were to be kind to other nationalities living among them(there is a verse that says that).. i don't think he gave the complete picture though, as israel also practiced genocide.. then jehovah said to me, ‘see, i have already begun to give siʹhon and his land over to you.
start to take possession of his land.’ 32 when siʹhon came out along with all his people to meet us in battle at jaʹhaz, 33 jehovah our god handed him over to us, so that we defeated him, his sons, and all his people.
34 we captured all his cities at that time and devoted every city to destruction, including men, women, and children.

I was talking with my JW brother in law and he mentioned how successful the cart work is... according to the society... since it isn't the case locally. I resisted telling him that I have observed cart witnessing in many parts of the country and abroad and I have never seen witnesses engaged in conversation with passer by...

Dealing with Elderly Parents Who Still Believe the jw Religion is the truth
by lancelink ini left the religion back in 2008 right after my mother died,( the total lack of natural love/ affection was the final straw for me).. but my dad has become more and more focused on doing the wt bidding.. it just amazes me how he gushes on and on about the last days, his new bible studies, and meeting parts .
but yet he makes no effort to have any type of relationship with his grandkids, there are 5 of them , non are witnesses.
they are the children from several different sisters of mine, and myself.. so how do you deal with the witness stuff always being presented in conversations?.

Talking with my 83 year old mother is like listening to the announcements at the meetings. She's a JW zombie who has personal opinion or any interests of her own. It's meetings, service, personal study. She complains that her non JW family never contact her but she never reaches out to them. Her excuse is that she has no time...She knows NVR2L8 no longer goes to meetings but she never dared asking why and I am not about to burst her bubble of religious illusion.

What "Rules" Did The Elders In Your KH Make?
by minimus insome congregations were known as liberal and others were considered very conservative.
back in the 1970s a nearby congregation made all speakers who gave public talks a white shirt to wear.
if a speaker came in wearing anything but white they were brought into the library and were given a white shirt!

Elders attempted to stop our weekly ice hockey game at the local arena. They said there was nothing wrong having the occasional game, but having it planned every week was an issue. It was serious enough to threaten our congregation privileges. I asked him how did he think we could secure a time slot at the arena if we didn't commit to a specific time? Then I asked him if he dedicated time to watch a favorite weekly TV show or even the daily news...that wouldn't be any different than playing hockey once a week at 7:00 pm on Friday nights. I told him that banning hockey is easy for someone who has not interest in this activity....I would find it easy too if they banned knitting or crosswords...the whole group of servants started laughing and the elders were embarrassed except for the one who had issues with organized sports. In the end we continued playing and they never took away our privileges.

What is behind your choice of forum user name?
by stuckinarut2 injust curious how we all think.. what prompted or influenced your choice of username for this forum?.
there are some really amazing names, and it would be great to hear the stories behind them.... mine was nothing fancy.
i just felt "stuck in a rut too" along with so many others.

I did...the whole body for not following the WT instructions on congressional matters such as accounting and for not accurately teaching the WT "truth". Elders persecuted those who were vulnerable and weak, families with young children by having unrealistic expectations in regards to meeting attendance and service hours. At the time I was often used at assemblies as an examplary MS so I had connections with the CO and DO and when they came to visit 3 MS exposed some of the issues. The elders and all MS were removed except for me and another MS. We had to handle all the meeting parts until elders from a neighboring congregation were assigned to replace those who were removed.

Site Updates
by Simon injust a heads-up that i will be testing some updates this evening.. the nature of the changes means it's difficult to test every scenario in advance offline (translation: it's a lot more effort and i just can't be bothered) so i'm going to go with the "wing-it" approach:.
deploy, check for errors, try to fix errors before anyone else notices them.. i can switch between the new and old version pretty quickly so if there are significant issues, i'll rollback and revert the changes while i work on the fixes.
worse case is the pages won't display quite right (dates might be a giveaway) but a full page refresh should fix things.. http://www.refreshyourcache.com/en/home/.

What's your degree of anti-JWness?
by Landy inso, on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is absolutely pro-jw, 5 is neutral and 10 is youtubing nutjob apostate, where do you stand?.
i'm probably around a 6. i have the view that jws are a nothing marginal religion.
if i hadn't been brought up as one i doubt they would have ever entered my consciousness.. the reasons it's a 6 and not a 5 is that i have some concerns over their child baptism and safeguarding procedures, but i think it's down to them being a bit dim rather than any pro child abusing ethos.

I am with Stan and Tallon.
I totally disagree with their doctrine and I believe it's a cult holding hostage those I love.
It's a 10 for me.
