I think the JW definition of pagan is often blurred with unbeliever. When I first told my still JW wife that I had attended my last meeting as we were returning from the district convention she replied that she didn't want to be married to a pagan. I hadn't done anything a pagan would do, I no longer believed what I listened to during those last 3 days, especially the overlapping generation nonsense. Being called a pagan hurt me more than if she had called me an unbeliever. My comeback was that it would be the only time I would overlook this threat to our marriage. The next time it would be the end. She never called me a pagan again and it's been over 9 years. We just agreed not to let religion get between us. It still does with meeting attendance but I fill the void with doing sports or other enjoyable activities on my own. Maybe one day she will come around...

District convention to be held in assembly hall instead of stadium
by NikL inlast night they announced that this summers district convention will be held at an assembly hall.. this is the first time i've seen this happen.
there are a couple of congregations in the same hall here and they aren't going to the same ones.
they are having multiple dates.. the hall they are going to use can only hold 1500 people max.. just wondering if maybe they just couldnt get anything bigger this year or if the falling numbers are playing a part in this decision.

They've been doing that around Montreal and Quebec. With most of the program being videos you can do a repeat several weekends in a row. Maybe it's got more difficult to book large venues or maybe the WT not getting any deals or kickbacks from city authorities for holding large events.

JW visitors addicted to JW.org
by NVR2L8 inhow things have changed!
a childhood friend and her husband stayed with us for a few days and, except for when we went sightseeing, they spent most of their time on their digital devices viewing and listening to content from jw.borg.
a few years back i recall a stearn warning against the use of such devices at an assembly.

How things have changed! A childhood friend and her husband stayed with us for a few days and, except for when we went sightseeing, they spent most of their time on their digital devices viewing and listening to content from jw.bOrg. A few years back I recall a stearn warning against the use of such devices at an assembly. These devices would rob the user of time they could devote in the ministry. I guess the WT figured out how to use the addictiveness of these devices to get a stronger hold on their followers. The same goes for the use of recorded talks and videos....in the same manner as tele evangelists that the WT used to condemn. These people seem to be under a spell and anything one may say that challenges what they believe is automatically rejected without even a thought. -

Now Canada's Turn
by newsheep injust got a phone call this morning from a very upset anointed brother.
he said he didn't believe me when i told him about the pedo problem and selling off of halls.
he said he was disgusted with the watchtower and had to go to a special meeting last night.

New Sheep, you might be right....I don't get involved in JW conversations with my wife's visitors, so when I overheard that the Guelph congregation was getting 60 more publishers I assumed it resulted from the sale of the Elmira hall. It may indirectly be due to the new bounderies of territory. I wonder if they still have 2 halls in Guelph?

Money and trustworthy men
by road to nowhere ini noted in the josiah movie that the money collected in the temple was to be given to the men doing the restoration without any accounting as they were trustworthy men.
contrast that statement with the way they guard and account for every penny.
that is until it gets to the world headquarters.

I also did the accounts. When I took over from the previous brother the accounts were a mess. After clearing all the issues the CO said my work was exemplary. Then the new CO gave me shit for sending $0.11 to the WT instead of the KHall fun...I accidentally enter the amount on the wrong line of the remittance form. He told me to never do that again...like if I did it on purpose...what an ass hole.

My wife is....although she is unable to explain or debate any of the doctrines. My son was never baptized but his wife is, but he's in it for the social aspect.

He's already earned $43 millions so I am not to worried about his financial future, although the Watch Tower may be benefit from some windfall in exchange to making him a star at several conventions...

Jws don't really have "communities" or "functions" like churches do?
by nowawake14 ini've noticed how this religion is kind of narrow.
all they ever do is preach, study the watchtower, or their meeting or convention.
no other organized functions that i know of.

Truthlover 123, we had such gatherings in our area but it's always organized by individuals and not the congregation. In fact the WT discourages large gatherings and lately I read something on this site to the effect to no longer link the congregation with events like "picnik" or "party". I guess the WT wants to stay clear of any liabilities and shift the accountability to individuals in case of an accident or other risks. The same would apply to daycare or community kitchen.
