Buying Silver is Worldly
by manthedan inmy wife (no longer a jw) was at her mother's and sister house (who are jw's) and my wife told them that we have been investing in a little silver.
her sister then attacked her and said that it was "soooo worldly" that we have been buying silver and that you dont see jehovah witnesses going out buying silver........wtf!
this freak b**** who claims to be a faithful jehovah witness got a tattoo recently with her "faithful" mother's approval.

What proof is there that Jesus chose the Bible Students in 1919?
by VM44 inwhat proof is there that jesus inspected all the religions or the earth in 1919 and then chose the bible students?.
just because the watchtower says in its literature that they were chosen is not proof!.

The teachings approved by JC in 1919 are considered appostasy today...or is it the opposite? I use to believe that the growth in membership was the evidence JC was behind the organisation...until I realized that other movements like the revived pentacostal church as grown much faster without doing any door to door preaching!

Did anyone on this site claim to be of the annointed?
by still thinking injust curious, because i'm trying to get my head around what makes someone think they were annointed?
and then, if they left, what made them realise they weren't?
and how did you feel about discovering that.. i read crisis of concience and that was a real turning point for me, i don't think there is any going back to old thought processess after that.

OTWO has it right: the WTS decided that the heavens' full capacity of 144,000 was reached in 1935...so automatically all that was left as a hope for the rest of mankind was earthly paradise...until the number of partakers started to grow and the WTS had to admit that they do not know when the celestial call would end! So stay posted, you may get the call!

Need help combatting disfellowshipping policy scripturally
by stuckinlimbo inhi i need some help to show that the scriptures used to uphold the disfellowshipping policy are actually only meant to apply to those that deny the christ blah blah.
not for me but someone close to me.
parents have disowned her.

Parents have disowned her. But they love her dearly . She is 18!!! She has told them she doesn't think that the elders would be upset if her own family talks to her and they have responded that it is not about the elders but about "Jehovah".
As long as the parents are "strong" in the cult, there is very little anyone else can do. I speak from experience because my oldest child disassociated at 21 years old and for over 10 years we didn't communicate. I was a MS and was reaching out to be an elder...I didn't want to lose my service "priviledges" so I strickly obeyed the WT rules. One day two elders came to visit my wife and I to commend us for our fine example...and for helping a "fatherless" teenager in the congregation. Right at that moment I realized that I was acting as a father for this stranger when I was totally ignoring my own child. I told the elders I felt like a hypocrit and that I wanted to follow my heart and be a father to my child. One of the elder said that I could have some contacts with my child...but the other elder and I said that this is not what the society teaches. The brothers said that they would do research to help me see things Jehovah's way. Two week later they dropped photocopies of WT articles I was very familiar with. I told them that at their last visit I was feeling depressed but that now I was fine with the whole situation. Until a few months later, the July 2009 Awake article "Is it wrong to change your religion". In this article we are telling people that no one should have to choose between belief or family...hypocrits...Since then, I started talking to my child and we are visiting. I stepped down as a MS and started fading. I apologized to my child for being so distant during 10 lost years...so much wasted time.

Recognizing Christ's leadership involves submission to his "brothers." 5/15/2011 WT
by miseryloveselders ini hesitated to do this thread as i thought it was the same article flipper did, but its not the same article.

"Those who follow human rulers often experience disappointment."
Is that why JWs are disppointed that the end hasn't yet come...because they are following human rulers in the form of the FDS? The new light on this generation overlap was such a great disappointment to me that I never returned to the KH after it was so poorly explained at the last DC. I am one of the young ones who shouldn't go to college because in 4 to 8 years we would no longer live in this old system...

I started a new job that required a lot of travel. I missed half of the congregation meetings so I was no longer available for meeting parts. When I came home I used my Saturday mornings to rest or to work around the house. In time I spoke to one elder and told him I felt like I was no longer an example for the congregation and combined with the stress of the new job I could no longer serve. The elder said that they understood my situation and they would be patient with me, giving me time to remedy the situation. I told him he needed to listen to what I was telling him...I no longer wanted to serve, so the next meeting they announced I was no longer a MS. From that point I attended fewer and fewer meetings. I attended the last 2 days of the DA in 2010 and since then I never went back to a single meeting. I don't know if the elders questioned my wife on the reasons I no longer attend meetings, but two week ago 2 elders showed up at my door and after a few minutes of casual conversation they asked what they could do to help me come back to the Kindom Hall. I said I knew their phone numbers and where the KH is located...but at this time I want to be left alone...last week they had the CO's visit so I guess they wanted to tell him they visit the inactives...I hope that's all this was.

Present some evidence for evolution...
by Spade inthere's no evidence that can't be overturned and exposed as deception in the scientific community.
jehovah's witnesses don't stonewall any new findings.
we have degree regarding adaptation.

Spade,
Since when do you need evidence to support your beliefs? Don't you believe in the invisible presence of J-C since 1914? That the WT was inspected by J-C in 1919 and chosen as God's organisation? Where's the evidence? What about the evidence that Armaggedon is very near? That J-C meant overlapping generations in Matt. 24:34? What credible historical, scriptural or archeologic evidence can you present to support all these claims? Take some time to read Terry's post http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/207349/1/Whats-the-difference-between-the-invisible-enthroned-Jesus-and-no-Jesus and try to skate your way out of this one!

The JW funeral talk outline - poor taste or REALLY poor taste?
by Mr. Falcon inso i attended a funeral for a jw who passed away (non-"annointed) and i would have to state that although i have heard the standard funeral talk outline for dozens of funerals i've attended, i never really took the time to listen.
and my god, i was cringing.
the outline is essentially broken down like this:.

Hey Drew.
I attended several funeral talks in the last few years, including my dad's and at most there was a song at the end. In some cases the words of the song were printed in a memorial "program" given to everyone so that even unbelievers attending can sing along. "Life without end at last"...does that ring a bell? Since everytime this song is used at a meeting my wife walks out of the hall because she no longer can stand earing it and I have to fight back tears...The main objective of any funeral talk is the good witnessing resulting from a tragic event...

Nugget was right - the CO's in town! My wife just left for the meeting which is usually held on Wednesday night. As she was leaving I was thinking to myself "what's so special about this week of activity when the same bullcrap is repeated over and over again. I can remember the panic of the servants body in preparation for the visit, making sure all "t's" were crossed and "i's" dotted and how everyone was on their best behavior...glad I this is all in my past.

Keeping the workers busy is the way to prevent them from breaking free from their cultic spell...start missing FS and the meetings and the effect loses its strength because you now have time to think things out on your own. To illustrate: several congregations were invited to do some landscaping work at the assembly hall and part of the work was to spread compost all over the lawn. A large front wheel loader was used to dump piles of compost at different spots on the lawn and workers manually spread the stinking compost. At one point the machine was parked and when some asked why it wasn't used for spreading, they were told that there were plenty of workers that needed to be kept busy! So instead of making the load lighter and speeding up the process so everyone could enjoy a little bit of their Saturday, they decided to do things the hard way. Of course, no one insisted and kept on working until the whole job was done. In my case I decided that I had done enough and I left discreetly...
