I do not dismiss all of the Bible either...I believe that some of the history is accurate and such archeological discoveries can only confirm the validy of the accounts...but I also believe some stories transmitted orally from generation to generation may have transformed into legends with many details added or embelished through the years. This phenomenon is not strange to us - we only have to listen to our grandfathers to realize how grandiose events were in their lifetime and how the story may evolve every time they tell it. Egyptians left writtings that relate accurate historical events, myths or things believed to be true in their time. Some of those writtings stand the test of time while others are no longer valid when viewed in today's light.

Moshe,
She probably still think organ transplant is cannibalism...
WT lawyers are a source of income for the society...they took a chance to hit the jackpot...and all those donating to the Worldwide Work are footing the bill. Also R&F witness feel that the society will go out of their way to support them during their period of trial.

My public talk on sunday
by mankkeli ini am currently preparing for the public talk on sunday and as i was looking through the outline some these thoughts just keep popping up my mind that in the face of several allegations and numerous scandal, wbts has not stopped claiming to be god's organisation, i am wondering if they will ever realise that their strategies are no longer appealing to the general public.
regrettably, they keep on publishing and printing using victims of mind control hazards to the detriment of over 7 million rank and file members and spiritual illiterates in the society.
i keep on pondering on how long this malicious activity would continue.

I was giving the talk You can feel secure in an unsafe world...and I was looking for more recent data on the increase of earthquakes and other calamities since 1914 I could use in my public talk...that's when I found out the truth about the "truth". I was scheduled to give the talk in a few weeks but I just couldn't go through with it. I asked an elder to go in my place...that I was feeling run down with all the business travel and the congregational duties...he bought it. A few months later I resigned as a MS and started fading.

Proverbs 4:18 vs Matthew 24:45-47
by Cameron_Don inwhy is it that when former witnesses look at the society's pre-1919 teachings that were not true we conclude that they mean that the society is not god's organization, but when current witnesses look at those same teachings they conclude that they mean it is god's organization?
what makes the difference?.
i feel that one of the factors that makes the difference is because while ex-witnesses process those pre-1919 teachings through matthew 24:45-47, witnesses process them through proverbs 4:18.. take for example rutherford's "millions now living will never die!"...

Interesting point! If Jesus chose men and appointed them as his discreet and faithful slave while they were celebrating pagan holidays and birthdays, smoking tobacco, using the cross...etc...wouldn't it be presumptuous for appointed men to disfellowship someone for these same offences today? Wouldn't this be the equivalent of second-guessing Jesus' judgement...how could these men be worthy to serve Christ but now unworthy to serve the WT?

Why did the Ethiopian require "explanation" of scripture in Acts 8?
by sabastious inacts 8 29-31: 29 the spirit told philip, go to that chariot and stay near it.. 30 then philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading isaiah the prophet.
do you understand what you are reading?
philip asked.. 31 how can i, he said, unless someone explains it to me?

Because unlike today everything you learned was from word of mouth...unless Philip or someone else spoke to him directly, the Ethiopian may have not known what the prophecy meant. It's amazing how the good news of the kingdom was preached extensively in the first century without having the backing of an international printing empire...if such a corporation was not need then why would it be needed now?

Anyone wanna place a bet on what will happen to me when I have to go to the Kingdom Hall this Saturday??
by Coffee House Girl inwell since there is no "betting" (as it reeks of gambling) in jdub land, lets place a friendly wager on what will happen to me when i go to my father's "memorial" service at the kingdome hall this saturday..... to give you newbies background info: i am neither df'd or da'd- i left 2 years ago with no explanation.
i have been hounded by elders in my cong because they have suspicions that i am living with a man, but they have no proof (well, no proof in jdub land- you know...two witness rule).
after many attempts to get me to meet with them- i finally sent the elders a "cease & desist" letter after one of them spied in my miniblinds to see me eating breakfast with someone (they couldn't identify who).

CHG!
I decided not to go. My wife was upset, but I told her I didn't want to give anyone the false impression that I coming back in the picture, especially after I told the elders who dropped by a few months back that I wanted to be left alone. All of them were there, so I am happy I stayed home. She said several asked for me...and many others said hello...I guess no one has really figured out why they don't see me at their gatherings ever. They must still think that I am still travelling for work a lot.

WT books thrown into the dumpster...
by NVR2L8 infor the last few weeks i have been pretty busy as we were moving to a new house.
my wife did most of the packing but when it came to the move, i realized that there are things we own that we had forgotten about because we haven't used them for years!
on top of the list was old wt publications that no longer contain the "truth" and publications available on the wt cd.

kwintestal, I guess stashing old bills in WT literature is the only way to give these books some true value....

Saturdays piss me off...
by pubtruth inthanks to the watchtower... i have to deal with mother preparing herself for hall each and every saturday.
she makes it so blatantly obvious, and tends to put me down, on a sort of guilt trip.
even though she disagrees with certain doctrine she still holds on tight.... during the week she hums kingdom melodies.. only when i'm around... i need a damn job so i can move... just a small rant..

AnneB, the disconnect happened way before when I was doing research for a public talk and I couldn't find secular statistics that supported the "evidence" presented in the WT outline. From that time I gave the talk twice...then I couldn't anymore and within 2 years I resigned from my congregational duties and totally stopped going to meeting one year ago after the DC. My wife is still active but I know it is just in a social way since she can't explain or debate any of the doctrines using the Bible...the books were kept for her...but she never uses them except for the meetings...so these are the books she kept. I just couldn't stand the site of all these books lined up on the shelves on the bookcase in my office...as if the number of books or size of your WT library was a indicator of the level of your spirituality...
