The level of knowledge has importance only if you are someone who want to attain "special privileges" in the congregation like MS, elder, pioneer maybe...because I met many of them who didn't have a clue. Otherwise, you could pretty much be part of the organization like anyone who is member of a social club. My wife can explain very few of the WT teachings and can't support any argument using the bible, this after a lifetime of regular attendance at the KH. She goes out in service but never had a study, rarely has a return visits...most months she places no magazines...she never comments at the hall nor does she participate in the ministry school...she one of the precious sheep under the spell of the WT, which explains why I can never reason with her on why I no longer go to the meetings.

On A Scale Of 1 to 10 How Much Knowledge Does A Jehovah's Witness Have About Their Religion?
by minimus inyears (many decades) ago, most jws knew what their religion taught.
they could go toe to toe with a minister or priest and make some good points.. i believe today's witness knows little about most of the convoluted teachings and revisions of the "truth".
yesteryear's witnesses got a 9/10.

The WT make it sound like making money is bad...they are currently sitting on hundreds of millions in real estate in NY waiting for the market to go up so they can make more money.By the way, where did all the professionals working for them acquire their degrees...all these lawyers, doctors, engineers, financial analysts and computer geniuses...In the new system will all those skills and knowledge be transferred automatically into some chosen ones or will we have to learn thing the traditionnal way by persuing higher educations? Just asking...

I am one who's desire and ability to learn wasted on the wrong curriculum - the WT program! I quit school before completing HS because "true" education would be soon provided after Armaguedon came (1975)...36 years past and all my life I had to slug it to provide may family the necessities of life and to put some money asside "just-in-case" I grew old in this system...I don't know if 56 years old is old...and the WT still encourages young ones to get just enough education to get by...because the end is soon. Although my wife and son are still in, I will do all I can to make sure my grand children get the education I forfited and hope they use their talents and skills in a fruitful manner.

One shouldn't automatically assume that JWs study the bible - I know they study the WatchTower magazine. I haven't yet found one scripture boasting the merrits of being ignorant. If King Salomon lived today would he be satisfied with only learning enough to get by...would the WT "educational" program allow him to fully put his thinking ability to use?

The WT society automatically assume that people seek higher education with the only goal to get rich or to acquire prestige. These benefit may at one point reward those who spent years to acquire knowledge in a specific field, but in many case the driving force behind higher education is the need to learn and the desire to fullfil a quest for knowledge. Many are driven by the desire to contribute to society and enhance other peoples' lives. But no! The WT cannot attribute any noblety to higher education...

The sale of some properties in Brooklyn Heights is now handled by a realtor...and the WT is now disclosing an asking price. In the past they handle the transaction in-house and never publicly disclosed how much they were asking to the buildings. A sign of the times or they are deperate to sell their buildings in tough economic times....

Loosing loved ones to death while still a witness
by man in black injust wondering,,, have any of you lost family members or friends to death while you were still a jw ?.
if so, how did you feel about it while still a witness, and perhaps how did your viewpoint change after leaving, thinking that soon everything .
you were taught about the "coming new order" would become reality ?.

EX,
Sorry for your loss, especially when all of this could have been avoided...My medical directive was tossed in the trash can a while back because I just can't gamble my life on a policy that has changed several times because the WT was at risk of being sued. If it was truly based on divine law, it would have never changed.

I lost my dad nearly 8 years ago...the funeral talk was like an info-commercial for the WT. After a brief few words on my dad's accomplishments as a JW, the rest of the talk was aimed at the non-witnesses in attendance. In order to be reunited with the deceased all needed to come into God's organization to enter the new world and be there when our dear ones are resurected...My sister in-law who was never a witness said after the talk that she needed to join the JW quickly if she wanted to see dad again! Then in the last 3 years I lost 3 other close friends...2 to cancer and one took his own life. The talks were similar, but in the two first cases the speakers spend more time talking about the person that died and also comforting the family. One thing that struck me was how the people in the KHall acted...it was like they were at a regular meeting...some were even joking and laughing. Others were happy to see friends from far away. I felt like no one had respect for those mourning the loss of a close one. In the case of my dad, he was cremated and his ashes were disposed of in an undisclosed location...that was also a lack of respect for those in his family who wished they had a place where they could go to remember their brother...or father. But that's often the JW way...resurection is just around the corner, who needs to know where they rest...they are alive in Jehovah's memory....

i'm new to the jw bs (and as soon as i can break away, will do so.
) but do they also believe they have a superior bible to anyone elses outside the religion?

Wonderment,
Thank you for your clarification on some of the statements commonly used to discredit the WT. When I was doing research about the "truth" and trying to decide if I was going to remain or leave, I found that many opposers misquote and twist the facts and it got me thinking that the WT may be right when they warn JWs that information on the net is designed by apostates to lead people away from the "truth". Fortunately for me people like you or Mary, Blondie and a few others take the time use quotes in their context. WT lies can only be dispelled by using accurate information, not other lies...otherwise how can one distiguish who's right!
