For the first time in decades I read a book that wasn't published by the WT. I have time to sit by the river to watch the sunset...On Saturday morning I get up early and wash my motorcyle before I go for a long ride...beats driving around for 2 hours to speak to as few people as possible. I spend hours playing with my grand children. I maintain and remodel my house instead of Kingdom and Assembly Halls. I play hockey with "wordly" people who are actually less agressive then the JWs I used to play with - and I no longer have to share their religious beliefs to be part of the team...

I agree with Blondie - when I was doing the accounts I found that a handfull would give $20 - $40 a month by postdated check and toward the end of the year a few more would give a one-time $500 to $1500 donation, just in time to qualify for a tax receipt. Funds in the cong. bank account would start high in the new year and would carry us until the end of the year because collection during the other months alone would not have been enough to cover the KHall expenses. The amount collected for the WT Worldwide Work would have never covered the value of the litterature if they were still sold at the old prices. I'm convinced that the majority of publishers never put money in the WWW box for publications except for what they would collect...and in our congregation very few ever dare asked for donations...

What Term Can Replace "Publisher" ?
by OnTheWayOut inindulge the possibility that, as profits from printed materials become thinner, watchtower might want to stop having members carry printed materials to the homes of many.
i know it will probably go through more phases of "cheapening" the materials (softcover books, pamplets instead of brochures, flyers instead of pamphlets) but let's consider the idea that they will one day cease delivering anything printed.. the door-to-door work is huge in controlling members and monitoring loyalty.
pioneers are their biggest supporters.

ex360shipper,
My daughter is doing fine. She has been living with the same man for 14 years. She started her own business and owns her house. We have a good relationship especially since my exit from the JW. I profusely apologized for not being there when she needed me the most and she understand why I acted as I did....damn WT rules. As for my brother who is an elder, I had a chance to speak to him when he visited 2 weeks ago. I told him how I felt about being forced to shun my daughter - how unloving and insane it is to think that cutting off someone is a way to prove our love to them. How logical is it to be responsible to my daughter if she was in a dire financial situation and then letting strangers (elders) shoulder this responsibility if she is having spriritual problems...? He had no answer except to tell me that I should do what I feel is right in my heart.

I was never an elder but I can share my daugher's story. After my daughter moved on her own she had the visit of a male friend who wanted to confide in her about his up-coming marriage...he said that he had doubts because he really was in love with my daughter. She turned down his advances but the brother finally had his way with my daughter with what I would call a date rape. Feeling guilty, she went to the elders and they called the elders in the brother's congregation. After their investigation, the brothers said that he denied having sex with my daughter and the this was just a plot by my daughter to break off his engagement because she is obsessed with him. The elders in my daughter's congregation kept on asking: "are you sure you are telling us the truth'. The fiancee and some of her friends called my daughter to threaten her and the fiancee's mom also called and she said that she believed her story. At no time was my daughter given the opportunity to confront the brother face to face...still the wedding was celebrated at the Kingdom Hall. That's when my daughter started exiting the cult. One year later the brother admitted he had sex with my daughter and he was disfellowshipped and his wife divorced him. Of course there were no apologies from any of the parties. Later my daughter started dating someone at work and an elder watched him coming out of my daughter's appartment early in the morning...that elder is my brother, her uncle....that how he chose to help her...At that point she wrote her disassociation letter. You may wonder why I didn't get involved to help my daughter during this difficult time...I live 6 hours away and I learned of all this after the fact when an elder in her congregation called me to tell me my daughter was no longer a JW. Gradually after several calls and some visits I learned what really happened to my dear daughter.

So an old friend from the hall called me today....
by shakyground inhe said he wanted to know how i was doing and what was going on with me.
i knew that it was only a matter of time before he started asking about me not being to the hall in like 3 months and him trying to bring me back into the fold.
and in about less than a minute he started telling me about how everyone at the hall misses me and asks about me.

A few years ago I attended a funeral talk and the brother used the same guilt inducing tactic toward the inactive son of the deceased...the first thing your mom will ask when she resurects is where is my son___________. How low will they go!

Religious People Live Longer
by mankkeli inregular involvement in religious activities goes hand in hand with better physical health and a longer life, according to a statistical analysis of 42 independent studies published since 1977 that have addressed this issue, states science news.
religious involvement, especially the public type, showed a statistically significant relationship to higher survival rates, the scientists say.
several reasons have been proposed for the findingsthe shunning of risky behaviors, marital stability, less depression associated with matters beyond direct control, greater social contacts, and positive emotions and attitudes.

Does not apply to Jehovah's witness since they are not a religion according to their own definition...and it is a cult according to mine....

Charlie Brown...if you do a little bit of research in the WT publications you may find that accepting a prize from even a free lottery tickets would displease Jehovah because the prize money was acquired in an activity that He condemns...as a witness you shouldn't benefit from someone else's greed...and the article likened it to accepting diamonds knowing that they were stolen...
Got me to think...blood fractions are acquired from blood donation...doesn't God condemn that? Still we are aloud to accept fractions....Hummmmm
