When your are a young JW your parents quickly kill your aspirations of being a firefighter, police officer, doctor or lawyer...in a short time "your" career of choice will be bethelite, full time pioneer and an elder if you are a male....the pursuit of any other goals is wordly or worthless in the eyes of JWs.

Death- most in the truth do well with it.....really?

Never mind about doing well with death...JWs do poorly with LIFE by putting off all their aspirations until the "real life" in their illusive paradise. They have been taught that life in this system cannot be happy and fulfilling, all attempts to succeed viewed as a lack of faith. At this point why would one even want to live now if the real life is next time around? I've come to believe that there's only this life and I live it to the fullest. My hymn is It's my life by Bon Jovi....I want to live while I'm alive!

Just to clarify...education is a personal decision but JWs discourage the pursuit higher education and of a professional career. Young ones are encouraged to have just enough education to pay for life's necessity so they can dedicate their time as full time evangilizers. The only JW doctor I know was in her last year of medical school when she became a JW. Today she works as a doctor as little as possible to be able to be a pioneer with her husband.

A House Divided Against Itself Falls-Luke 11:17
by Stand for Pure Worship inthat text reminds me of one of a handful of problems peculiar to the ex-jw community.
second only to the wild beast's internal divisions, is the divided makeup of the ex-jw populace.
you know the one thing that indicates jehovah's blessing upon the worldwide association of kingdom proclaimers, is not only the continued success of the preaching work, but along with it the unity and love amongst the brothers and sisters.

North Koreans are united...and free to do exactly as their supreme leader says. If anyone dares to think otherwise he is exposed by his own family or friends and isolated or terminated to prevent him from corrupting others. North Koreans are the happiest people in the world...they should know because that's what their supreme leader says...he also prevent them to communicate with the rest of the degraded, decadent world. Sounds familiar?

Jehovah made the deal fail so I could go where they needed me more
by NVR2L8 ina few weeks back i ran into an elder at a business meeting out of town.
i had seen him there before when i was a ms. this time i had a chance to tell him that my standing in the congregation had changed and that i was inactive.
he said that sometimes we need to take some time to reevaluate where we stand in the "truth".

Love your comments. In our conversation he asked what caused me to stop going to the meetings. I said it was sseeing all the old timers bobbing their heads in approval while they were being told the new meaning of the generation at the 2010 DC. I realized that in 5 years most of them would be gone after sacrificing everything in the hope of surviving Armageddon...The elders reply was that Jehovah would reward them. I said that many live on social security while others decided not to have children and they are now all alone . Some neglected their health and may die prematurely because of this. If he and I had obeyed the WT we both would be in their situation in 10 years from now. Instead he has a wife, children, a business, a home...could you imagine your life otherwise? I said that alarm bells had been ringing for a while and that I just couldn't stop them. We parted on good terms and he said I was still his brother...but I could see the next day that he was keeping his distance. I guess we'll have to wait for when we meet again.

A few weeks back I ran into an elder at a business meeting out of town. I had seen him there before when I was a MS. This time I had a chance to tell him that my standing in the congregation had changed and that I was inactive. He said that sometimes we need to take some time to reevaluate where we stand in the "truth". So we started talking about business and he told me he had made an offer on a different type of business and that he was going to move to another part of the country, but the deal fell through when someone else made a better offer. He then said that Jehovah made the real estate deal fail and he ended up buying another business in an area they were short on elders. At that point I told him I didn't believe Jehovah has anything to do with business deals...you should have seen his face. I said how can Jehovah meddle in your business deals but not intervene when brothers are persecuted or starving because they don't have the basic necessities. Yet worse, why doesn't he prevent brothers from being killed in car accidents while they're on their way to an assembly or in service? Helping you while turning his back to the others would show partiality on his part. I added that the WT teaching says the God doesn't help single individuals but his people as a whole. Blank stare! I asked him if he read the experience in the yearbook where a plane crashed on the home of JWs that were at the meeting. He said yes. I asked if being at the meeting is what saved them? He replied that when we obey Jehovah we are bound to be blessed. I asked him if someone was at the church when the plane crashed who would he attribute his survival to? What if that JW family had decided to skip the meeting and go to the beach instead wouldn't they have survived? So what really saved the JWs wasn't that they were at the KHall, it was that they weren't home where the plane crashed! So I concluded by telling him that my distance from the organization has allowed me to see things in a different light so I can determine what is true and what isn't. I hope that what I told him sounded a bell when at the last service meeting they spoke about the family who left their chickens behind to go to the assembly and how Jehovah made their chickens more fertile! In the meantime children are sexually abused, brothers are beaten and thrown in jail and publishers are attacked by pit bulls while in service!

Designated elder to shadow talks at the meeting
by wannaexit ini heard that there is an elder in each congregation that follows very closely what is being said from stage to make sure everything is being said correctly.
in all my years as a jw , i don't ever remember this at the local level.
is this something new?

Blondie, I once attended the Ministry School in a congregation in western Canada while visiting and my cousin's husband was the school overseer...he sat at a table set up on the platform on the opposite side of where the sister give their part. After returning home I asked him why he was sitting on the platform...and how could he see if the speaker had a good contact with the audience, facial expressions, the right posture, some of the gestures. His reply was that how it was done at the CA...In another hall the overseer sat at a table by the stairs leading to the platform so he could see the speaker at his right and the audience at his left. He gave councel from the desk and didnt go on and off the platform...that wasnt a bad idea.

Bonsoir mon amie Mouthy,
I am really happy for you. I know how much you love your family. I hope that this is the first of many more conversations. Changes in peoples' lives often provide the opportunity to refocus on what is important...and having a relationship with your mother should be the first item on one's list...
Great to hear from you...let's have coffee soon!

Donations aren't coming in from Western Countries: more confirmation
by Julia Orwell inin talking to sparky the elder today (http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/263862/1/an-elder-called-me-hes-waking-up-and-knew-id-understand-nice-for-him-to-have-a-friend) i found out he did the accounts for our congregation for years.
he said very rarely did the congregation meet its expenses without some well-off brother chipping in a few grand here and there.
the elders would also make up the shortfall.
-
NVR2L8
I did the accounts for years and the core of the donations came from older ones with little means who wrote 12 postdated checks worth $30 or $40. A few wealthy brothers would donate $1000 to $1500 in December to get a tax receipt. These end of year donations kept us afloat during the coming months. One year our elders had the bright idea to donate $4500 of that money to the WWW and we struggled to meet our expenses for the whole year. Our contribution to the KHall general expenses was only $8 per publisher per month x 110 for each of the 2 congregstions and I can assure you only 2 of the 6 elders contributed regularly...and no one could say they anonymously put cash money in the boxes because the bulk of the contributions were checks.

If IVF is so bad why did Jehovah allow his "friend" Abraham to deposit his semen in his servant Hagar so he could have a son? Then, Sarah miraculously becomes pregnant...Jehovah's blessing of course. Wouldn't in had made more sense that Jehovah made Sarah fertile in the first place so Abraham wouldn't have to fertilize Hagar?
