I was the go to guy for a last minute demonstration or to deliver a service meeting part on little notice. Normally it should have helped me build self confidence in my abilities to speak publicly, especially for a high school drop out (1975 was just around the corner). But as the very humble JW I was, all the credit was given to Jehovah's spririt and the wonderful training I received from his organization. Today I realize that I could have received the same training if I had pursued my education for a few years instead of having to spend a life time for an "education" that will never provide a certificate or diploma....I too believed that reading the WT publications was as valuable as a university education and this is why I enjoyed going on the platform to test my acquired skills and demonstrate my appreciation for the "free" education.

I'm curious, when you were asked to do a demo for a Service Meeting part, how did the request make you feel?
by Stand for Pure Worship indid you decline out of fear?
decline because you hated doing demos?
accept the request graciously?

Unfortunately with JWs it's their way or the highway. There is no room for compromise when it comes to their rules. Your reasonableness will not be reciprocated.

A few years back one of the WT lawyers involved in this story gave a public talk at our KHall. It focused on Bethany's resolve to obey Jehovah despite the pressure from the doctors, and on her strong faith in the resurrection. He even played an audio recording of Bethany's voice...Several in the hall were wiping tears. At that time I viewed this as successfully passing the ultimate test of one's faith in God. Today I realize how Bethany was coerced and misinformed by her JW support system including the HLC and WT lawyers. It would had been impossible for her to recognize that her father's actions were motivated by his love for her. Another innocent life lost at the hands of a dangerous cult - shame on you the Watch Tower.

Prayers that are heard. Fuel for a vehicle - YUP. Save us from death - NAH.
by Captain Blithering ini spoke to a ms the other day, trying to get his opinion on the wt we'd just studied at the meeting.
the paragraph where the co didn't know if he had enough money to afford gas for a trip, he prayed and went anyway, and someone donated the exact amount to cover his trip.. my question to the ms was - the wt clearly are saying jah answered that prayer, yet there were a couple dozen jw's sheltering in a kh in the philippines, undoubtedly praying, yet they all died in the hurricane.
how's that work, how can jah answer some prayers but not others?.

A few months ago I had a conversation with an elder who told me Jehovah made a real estate transaction fall through to guide him to another area where the need for elders was greater....I couldn't resist telling him that a loving God couldn't intervene in trivial matters such as real estate deals while he allows other faithful servants to be abused or killed despite their prayers...Believing this would equate to believing God is partial...Deer in the headlights stare...

Circuit Assembly Questions

I agree with you both The Searcher and Bobcat. There's a determined per diem not only to cover the building's maintenance cost but to also generate income for the society. That's the amount mentioned during the accounts report read from the platform. At our paid off assembly hall used almost every week, the cost was $15000 for a 2-day assembly. This is a scam when you consider that those who pay to use the hall provided the free labour and paid for building materials.

Late great Freddie Mercury wrote the song "don't try suicide". I loved that tune at a time this subject was taboo...

The Searcher. ..
I used to do the accounts until 4 years ago and I can't recall paying in advance for the SAD or CA. Is this a new arrangement? I remember the announcement saying that there is a deficit...then at the next assembly they say a $4000 surplus was sent to the WTS...

I used to do the sound at the assembly hall and DC. The stress level was palpable with a few who experienced the wrath of the CO and DO for not having the volume high enough or for a short delay turning on a mic...at one SAD the CO asked me to stay at the console during the lunch break just in case they would need to make a special announcement. I told him I could leave the mic live and all they would need to do is use the switch on the mic to turn it ON and OFF. That didn't sit well with him since it wasn't his idea. He replied that he wouldn't want anyone unauthorized to walk up and use the mic.

How Jehovah's Witnesses benefit those humble enough to study the Bible with them.
by Stand for Pure Worship inexcellent material can be found within the reasoning book, page 328, para.2, 3. occasionally, i see posters make presumptuous comments like, "all you need is the bible", or, "i'm born-again, so there's no need for spiritual assistance from another christian", or,"i'm saved", or my favorite, "jesus talks to me directly.
" on one hand, i can't be overly critical of such ones because they do attempt to read and understand the bible on their own.
(acts 17:11) not to mention they're generally peaceable folks, just self-misguided when erroneously believing that they can go it alone.

The Reasoning Book is my favorite tool to show how the "truth" was never the truth...and how you can easily be lured by letting others do all the reasoning for you.
