18Today I received my first ever birthday gift!
by NVR2L8 ini received a parcel at work from my daughter and her boyfriend.
it contained a birthday card in the shape of a motorcycle leather jacket and a book on rides you can take using the back roads in my part of the world!
my eyes filled with tears as i was reading the card.

Island Man...in our congregation we had a kissing-hugging elder that never called or visited after I stopped attending meetings. As you said it was all a plastic display of affection.

Losingit...does it matter how your spouse looks like, is much older or in poor health today when you believe that soon in the new system he or she will be perfect in every way? Then soon turn into decades of putting up with a mismatched spouse...that would be worst than remaining single.

Every Friday the 13th there is a massive motorcycle gathering about one hour away from home. Tens of thousands ride to Port Dover. Today it is minus 8 and the roads are greasy so I doubt anyone braved the un-luckiest day of the year although in past years we had milder weather in January or February and riders made the trip...

I received a parcel at work from my daughter and her boyfriend. It contained a birthday card in the shape of a motorcycle leather jacket and a book on rides you can take using the back roads in my part of the world! My eyes filled with tears as I was reading the card. My daughter wrote that I mean everything to her and that I'm her role model. Her boyfriend thanked me for accepting him in our family despite of not being in the same faith. Today I realized that I have been deprived my whole life of the joy of reveiving testimonials of love and friendship from family and friends simply because a few old men in New York decided that it was wrong! Happy 59th birthday to me.

I'm curious, when you were asked to do a demo for a Service Meeting part, how did the request make you feel?

Stillin...I had forgotten about the list of "approved" publisher we could use for demonstrations...Most of the parts I had included demonstrations and it was a pain to find participants that would clear the final elders' approval...
Once there was a part about singleness and the elder couldn't find a single brother or sister who remained unmarried to devote his or her life to fulltime service. So they interviewed a teenager who had just finished high school and auxiliary pioneered for a few months...after the meeting I asked the brother if he knew that this young girl was engaged to be married at 18 years old and was a lame example of singleness especially when Paul said one just pass the bloom of years before marrying...His reply was that he had to interview someone...I told him there were many fine examples in WT and Awake volumes....

My brother died yesterday
by satinka in"albert" was 55 years old, and the fifth-born of seven children.
i am the second oldest and babysat him often while he was growing up --- and while i was still at home.. yesterday, albert was out taking his usual morning stroll around his small town, when he collapsed on the sidewalk.
the doctors said it was a heart attack.
