Has Anyone Read the "Left Behind" series

i'm about halfway through and i think they're very engaging books.

not sure about all the beliefs laid out in the books, but i still find them really interesting.

I would beg to differ. I believe that this rapture "theory" is a panacea for Christians. For many years the Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant churches taught that the church would go through the tribulation. The rapture "theory" came along right about the time of the Adventists, and if I'm not mistaken had it's genesis in England, and said that 1700 years of Christian doctrine was all wet with the view of the church going through the tribulation. Christians bought into it and it eventually moved from being aberrant theology to being accepted within the pale of orthodoxy.

Secondly, if one is getting "saved" to avoid the tribulation by getting raptured, then their salvation would be suspect. I know I sound judgemental, but that is what I believe. I don't want to get into preaching a message on this, but I just wanted to explain something more on this.

I can only think of one teacher that I had that fantasy about. But it was just that a fantasy. I think that many teenagers have had those kinds of fantasies (older/younger). Isn't kind of like the "rape fantasy" that some women have? Pleae don't flame me. This is just food for thought.

Hi Tall,

I have not read any of the Left Behind series, but I am totally familar with the doctrine that drives them. You will be getting a good dose of pre-tribulation doctrine. No one, to my knowledge, has come out with a similar type of book proposing the other eschatological (end times) options. I wish someone would.

Anybody ever worked on a political campaign?

i'm helping a friend run for state senate and we are starting to gather petitions in order for him to be on the ballot.

i start tonight, but i can't help think how this is going to be similar to field service :-( .

anyway, what are the up's and downs of gathering petitions.. thanks - larry :)

I worked for the local "eeeeeeeeeeeeevil" Republican in my fomer district. It was during this time that a latino college kid and member of MeCHA called me a "traitor of la raza" (la raza means the people or the race in Spanish). My response is for another time and place.

Needless to say the candidate was elected and holds a very high post in the Republican leadership in Congress.

Now living in L.A. proper I simply won't do any work for the Republican candidtaes because they don't have a chance to win (heavily Democratic district).

However, I did gather signatures to recall Gov. Davis. That was easy, because most of the people wanted him out in order to vote for Cruz Bustamonte.

This is one thing that really iritates me about certain conservative pundits, and males in general; they will joke and laugh about this, "Oh boys will be boys", or "This is every teen boys' fantasy." As if molestation of a boy by a woman is something to be winked at. I believe that because of this attitude among men, that female molestors are "under the radar" so to speak.

I think this is a pretty disgusting thing.

Living in L.A. my friends want to hit the theme parks, too (Disney, Universal, et al.). I personally, can't stand Universal, and Disney is just two freaking expensive. I'm out close to $300 (myself, a date and two kiddies (14 & 10), er in Disney parlance adults) just to walk through the gates. Food? HA! Another $200. And then souveniers? Sometimes I feel like telling the kids, "You didnt lose your ticket, did you?"

WHO FEARS ARMAGEDDON?

the more time that passes, the less i even think about it.

i dont really believe in it but now and again i get a nagging fear of "what if we're all wrong and it is true" and boom big lighting rods and earthquakes come and shatter us all and i think damn and i almost beat jah on this one .

its so silly i know im right about my decison to leave the dubs but they psychologicaly messed with us for so long sometimes your like woah what if theyre right!.

Never did, even when I was a JW. When I was a JW I rarely ever thought about "spiritual matters" unless I was at a meeting or in FS or doing something JW related. It was like an On/Off switch in my head... and I only turned it on when I needed to... otherwise I just went about my business like the JW stuff did not even exist.

So you could say that you were, "elsewhere?" LOL

Seriously, though, I feared Armeggedon as a child, but when I grew up I outgrw those childish views. Hmmmm, that sounds familiar.

Now I have no fear of Armeggedon, and unlike most Christians, beleive that I will go through the final "end times."

607bce. An idiots guide needed please.

i have read a lot of threads on here about 607 b.c.e.

and i find a lot of them confusing.. i'm not an idiot but neither am i that well versed in star charts and archeological finds and some of the threads here (that i've found) have left me even more confused as they often make reference to things i know nothing about.. does anyone out there know where i can find an easy to read and understand explanation of 607.. am i to understand that it's the bible that comes to the date 607 and no other secular evidence can be found?.

i'm not having a go at any of the threads here as i'm sure they are excellent threads, they just go right over the top of my head.. i can't get any access to books or anything like that due to home circumstances so anything online would be perfect.. i would be grateful for any help anyone can give me.. thanks.

Just a quick note.

My own personal opinion of apocalyptic, ie. prophetic books is that there is no real strong position that one can take.

The real issue with 607 the the WTS gives it is it's correlation with 1914. Now the real issue with 1914 is that it was supposed to be the beginning of Armeggedon, with 1874 as the "beginning of the end times." That there, boys and girls, is the crux upon which this whole thing lies.
