sorry to beat a dead horse, but i need to confirm this.... just had email conversation with a friend who is going to the manchester convention this weekend.. made a joke about not buying sticky buns from the street vendors, being a mortal sin and all.. she replied, "what's wrong with buying from the vendors?
we have been encouraged to buy from on-site concessions.
" then she had to leave before i could this clarified.. .

driving home yesterday, i happened upon the tom leykis show.
what caught my attention was that he spoke of a 43 year old woman that was convicted of molesting a 13 or 14 year old boy.
she only got 6 months jail time, 10 years probation, and had to register as a level 1 sex offender (the lowest in that particular state).

She only got 6 months jail time, 10 years probation, and had to register as a level 1 sex offender (the lowest in that particular state). He also brought up Mary Kay Laturno (sp?) and how she was on her third offense before getting 7 years (incidently she is eliguble for release sometime this summer).
One caller identified himself as a person that at the age of 23 had sex with a 15 year old girl. It was discovered and he spent ten years in prison with the child molester tag. This tag is the lowest among the hierarchy of crimes in prison, and a child molester has to continually watch his back.
Please understand that I am all for throwing child molesters in jail for life. I might even think that if something happened to them while in the pokey, it would be no great loss to society. However, there were some good questions asked.
The segment's premise was based around the question, and what I would like to ask you fine people is this, "Why do women seem to get off easier on child molestation charges?"
Does society place more value on a virgin girl?
Where are the feminists that are demanding equal treatment of women? After all shouldn't justice be blind, theoretically, to gender? Why are many feminists so silent when it comes to equal punishment under law?
Your thoughts are appreciated.

aside from the reasons jws give as it being a pagan holiday renamed..... i do not like the fact that parents think nothing of lying to their children about this mythical santa claus.
and the constant hollywood movies making anyone who exposes the gag as an evil monster...while giving children reasons to believe that santa claus really does exist after all...ignore your older friends who have been poisoned by the secular world.. i find it appalling to ever teach a child to simply expect people to give them things just because the calendar says a certain day.. i find the mindless devoution to christmas to be just as appalling as the brainwashing jws do against it... i see people in my office acting like german clocks... the clock strikes easter and the decorate the office, strikes holloween and they decorate again...strikes christmas and more decorations..... then the frets and worries over what to get who and how much to go into debt over it.. i knew one lady who spent over $300 on a child less than two and was very depressed about two weeks later when the novelty wore off and only very inexpensive things returned as the main attraction.
I taught my kids that St. Nicholas was probably real person. That Santa Claus reflects part of the spirit of Christmas (giving not recieving), and that Santa Claus is not a real person. But that the real reason (yes, I know it cliche, yuck) for Christmas was the birth of Jesus Christ.
Please I don't want to hear how I'm a bad parent, for substituting one myth (Santa) for another "myth" (Jesus). I'm a Christian, and I raise my children as Christians, thank you very much.

just found this in the april issue of people magazine talking about religious views in hollywood.
there is an insert asking about scientology.
it says, "advocates of the church praise its literacy and drug recovery programs, though its reputation suffers because former members have called it a mind-controlling cult.
Folks,
I have from personal experience and second hand knowledge dealt with Scientologists. They are a vindictive bunch of people. They will go after you with lawasuits at the drop of a hat. Nasty bunch of people.

has anyone else noticed shakedowns in their area.
in my state whole service committee's (presiding overseer, service overseer, sectretary) have been replaced in many congregations including our's.
also, at the green bay convention and in many talks locally it seems there is a lot of hammering on the faithful and discreet slave.
When my family moved back to New Mexico, the entire Taos congregation's elder body was removed. Whatever happend, happened before we moved back, and my dad, who was an elder there before we moved to Northern California took over everything. When the CO finally made it up there, my dad was installed as an elder. He basically ran the show until a former Bethelite and his wife moved up there.
The whole situation was bad, as right in the middle of all this happening, the congregation was right in the middle of planning a quick build Hall. My dad was under so much stress form all this that he, for the first time that I ever remember, didn't go to a meeting because he was exhausted. This is a guy that would have to be on his death bed to miss a meeting.

my j.w.-in-laws had a party for three young people recently.
i asked if it was a high school graduation party?
they said no, it was a "kingdom hall" graduation party.
When I lived in Red Bluff, CA we had about 14 kids that all "graduated" from the 8th grade during the same year. SO rather than having 14 different parties, we had one big, huge and very boring party.
For my high school graduation, I bought the booze with some of the money I got as gifts, and had a huge party I got so drunk I had tunnel vision, one guy (not a JW) got the tip of his finger bit off, my best friend, a JW, jumped off the top of a bridge and into the river, and that was just in the first hour). I also have the JC scars to prove it.
