which english translations of the bible are you favorites, and why?

my favorites include the (english) revised version bible (of 1881-1885) and its apocrypha (of 1898), the american revised version bible (of 1898, it close to the american standard version), the american standard version bible (of 1901), the new american standard bible - updated edition, the new revised standard version bible with the apocrypha, the complete bible: an american translation (it includes the apocrypha), and the twentieth century new testament.

i also use others beside those.. they are my favorites because i consider them to be highly accurate, and also they are either very literal (but not so literal as to be hard to understand) or they use functional equivalence.

It's been years since I looked at a Bible apart from the family Bible that was handed down to me. It is of course a KJV.

I recently had a goosey gander at the Tanakh. Only a brief one.

As a general rule of thumb here in the UK we have to pay for bags in the larger chains.

Perhaps she was having a bad day and isn't always like that. Perhaps her other 'arf is starting a study with the Jobos or some other horrific thing.

Yes. It'd give me the hump but now days I try to use a bit of empathy. I'm not saying you should...just a new rule for me.

I don't get so stressed out on the roads these days either. I'm not so quick to flick the 'V's up at other drivers now. It feels more tranquil. After all, we might not be here tomorrow.

What would happen if the Watchtower decided no more meeting at Kingdom Halls, only Zoom?

i’m seeing my hard core believing relatives slowly losing faith that the watchtower is the organization that “god” is using to represent him on earth.. just about all the churches in their area have opened up.. but not the watchtower.. this is having an affect on the faith of even the old timers.

now the only ones who are still holding the faith are the female jws and only those past 70 years of age.

even my old male jw relative past 70 are starting to say that it can’t be jehovah’s organization because the other churches are all open and god supposed organization who is supposed to preach the warning message is still closed with no open in sight.

I don't have any predictions on this. It could swing in either direction. Mind you....I imagine the GB will do whatever brings in or saves them money and rock star status......probably whiskey in the case of TOMO3.

I have not real interest in 'celebs'. They are just people who entertain us. I don't even know their names when I watch films because I want to be entertained and not do acts of worship.

Of course, I wish them no harm. However, their lives and opinions are no concern of mine.

even if you disapprove of much about the wt and/or its religion, what aspects do you view most favorably about the wt and/or its religion?

for me one of the things i view most favorably about the wt and its religion is its extremely strong insistence that jws never intentionally kill another human being.

i especially appreciate that regarding those who have been born, but i think some abortions of human embryos might be justifiable.

A lot of the women are quite appealing to my eye. I liked how naughty committing fornication felt.

Mostly, very biased to suit their political narrative. I think of FOX and CNN in America and I laugh up my sleeve in derision.

Do you trust the media , especially mainstream?

Never. I won't watch the MSM because I simply don't trust their reporting. I say this because I personally know of stories where they lied to invoke outrage and anger because that's what sells.

I'm hoping more people will wake up and see the MSM for the shower of sh1t they are.

Why dont practicing JWS cant accept the fact that the Watchtower Corporation is a commercialized false prophet ?

to the majority of people who investigate the activities of the wts from its beginning history there were obvious false proclamations and doctrines propagated by the wts.. a matter of fact the wts produced a long list of literature that posted proclamations on the front cover and went into detail of things that were suppose to happen, from jesus returning changing the world in which we live and so on.. wonderful things one might say but not factual or either theologically correct .

It's a tribe to belong to. If you like that tribe or are in it for a compelling reason, then you might easily switch off that which may oppose it.

As humans, we tend to love our echo chambers and tribes. We love to be on what we think is the winning side. Thus, we allow the propaganda and brainwashing to only favour our tribe.

A bit like people stick to political parties, perhaps? We know they're all run by filth that are all about do as I say, not as I do, but still, people followed Matt Hancock's rules thinking he knew best. Meanwhile, back in the broom cupboard...............

most people over the generations have taken pride in their heritage, nationality and country they are from.

it’s not uncommon to hear of “proud” italians and proud irish people , as an example.

are you proud of your country and your nationality or do you feel shame or indifference?.

I like the UK less with each year. As for 'love'.........can't say it's a word I'd use. I was just born here awaiting a 'New world(tm) from Jehovah(tm)'. So, I don't really have any feelings. I'd go as far as to say that 'love' is just a fake evolutionary thing we get trapped into.

I could easily live in Canada. Probably near as Toronto without being in it.
