  Aby - I don't see how splurging copy paste actually helps. I say this because in my personal experience as a bloke that left the jobos, it would not help.

  What would have helped me? 1-2-1 dialogue not based around someone's own interpretation (or borrowed interpretation), of what the Bible says.

  Why? Because the WBT$ had already hoodwinked me into believing someone else's opinions. Perhaps it's the British mind.

  Simon - Great, another bible-vomiter.

  Conversations are like pulling teeth with these type of threads. It's a huge spew of copy paste. Waste of time trying to have a conversation. I really couldn't be bothered now.

  I hope I wasn't like that when I was religious or a JW. Hiding behind a screen of copy paste doesn't get to the authentic person.

  so why let thru the weird book of revelation?

  have you read the watchtowers explanation it's a joke rutherford's conventions play a huge part..

  Regarding your question “how do we know it isn't relating to a thousand years from now?” It is not about future period because Scientists tell us we have the last chance to save this earth, to cut co2 emission fully.

  Scientists say plenty. I'm not convinced that it means the scriptures relate to now or that there's even a climate 'emergency' as they like to carp on about.

  Oooooh, I don't know. I'm sure we want to believe it's our time because the world isn't all that grand...and I'm not being a nay-sayer, just relating to the people in it.

  If these were 'prophecies', which I highly doubt are credible; how do we know it isn't relating to a thousand years from now?

  This is what I struggle with now I'm not religious. I'm sure that using scriptures you could prove a green dragon lives in Nebuchadnezzar's garage in Toronto.

  There are unscriptural things in the Bible such as Numbers 31:17, 18.

  New World Translation is not much different other translations

  key scripture 2 timothy 3:16 should have been translated as “every scripture inspired of god is also profitable for teaching” like many other serious translations (such as american standard version ; douay-rheims bible etc) as it is what the greek text says.. this is in harmony with the contents of bible and also with the writer paul himself who knew after his departure ‘even from his own number men will arise and distort the truth.’ (acts 20:29-30) for example, verses such as romans 7:19 is such distortion.

  such verses cannot originate from real paul who was “holy, righteous and blameless.” (1 thessalonians 2:10) hence paul had the freeness of speech to tell others to be “blameless” like him (1 thessalonians 5:19-23; ephesians 5:24) there are many things in the scriptures which are not inspired such as words of satan, words of job’s wife and his false friends, words of judas, lot’s daughters …etc.

  apostle peter never disowned jesus because if he had done so, his contemporaries would have interrupted him when he rebuked jews, saying: “you disowned the holy and righteous one and asked that a murderer be released to you.“ (acts 3:14) his listeners would have asked him “what right do you have to reprove us for ‘disowning jesus” when you yourself have done it first?” all such verses or accounts were later adoptions.

  . I find this interesting, so thanks for your replies thus far.Aby - I get what you're saying, and were I still a JW or religious, I'd probably agree with you. However, 'roaring and tossing sea' doesn't tell us anything that you state.

  How did you get 'air pollution' tagged on to the sea level? The chapter in Thess in context is dubious that you can equate it to this time period.

  Wouldn't you agree that there is absolutely no evidence in this scripture that it relates to this time period?

  I still maintain albeit respectfully, that scriptures are being used to fit a modern day agenda of doom.

  It seems the same way that Nostradamus is used with his vague words to fit a modern narrative.

  Sorry, I'm not convinced that the Bible is actually saying what you think it says. Also, I bet a pound (£) to a pinch of salt that other Christian denominations will interpret it all differently. Do you agree that they will? If so, who is correct?

  Aby - I do not believe the media because they are usually agenda driven and part of a left or right wing propaganda drive.

  We can all just pick the media that acts as an echo chamber for us or says what we want it to say.

  Having said that, I still can't see what you're asserting from vague words in old writings. How do you know it isn't relating to something totally different in a different time?
