  Free Will - Does It or Does It Not Exist?

  being born-in and raised as one of jehovah's witnesses i remember a common theme or phrases used by the watchtower in its theory of why things are the way they are -.

  jehovah created humans.

  jehovah created humans as free moral agents.

  I started reading about determinism but it was a total word salad. I stopped reading because darn that noise.

  I think 'cause and effect' is all I need to know.

  There is a question about behaviour, 'is it nature or nurture?' IE, Comes natural or was taught to us.

  As far as I can see, our actions are responses and not necessarily pre-programmed. Often I am advised of a certain course of action. However, my responses are often down to money....lack of. Expensive will rather than free will.

  .......where am I going with this? I confused myself.

  Anyway (anyways with an 's' on the end if you are the other side of the Atlantic to me)....

  I still haven't found that rich widow!

  i don’t understand how jehovah’s witnesses can rightly claim:.

  that less than 150,000 faithful christians existed prior to the 20th century....when allegedly millions were martyred during the first 3 centuries of the common era alone.

  unique ability to interpret scripture...when interpretation of prophecy has been 100% wrong for over 130 years.. .

  Although I am not really into 'religion' and 'scripture' as such, I must say this.

  That there is no clear agreement on what the scriptures in the Bible mean, it makes me very sceptical.

  Folk seem to get bogged down in a particular 'Holy Book' as the one and only one. Then they can't agree on what bits of it mean.

  What about what the Quran or Rig Vedas say?

  Isn't it possible to read a 'Holy Book' and all come to the same conclusion? If not, I see a whacking flaw in the whole thing.

  Personally, I know the Jobots have bonkers beliefs that they don't seem to see themselves as if hypnotised.

  20 things is the tip of a very cruddy iceberg of Jobot nonsense.

  But, believe what ya wanna. When I read what you believe it makes me wonder if posters even have the correct 'Holy Book', correct God and belief system.

  Personally, I seek healthful wisdom from where-ever I find it......bugger all in the Jobot cult though!

  Why does the organization trivialise its own sometimes dangerous history, but won’t give the same leeway to other religions? It screams CULT!

  How do the Governing Body receive their communication from God exactly?

  When the writers of the watchtower get things wrong and have to change a previous doctrine why are they likened to the men in the Bible who ‘got things wrong’? If this is the case, which scriptures had to be altered later on because God gave the writers incorrect information?

  If Holy Spirit directs the elders into their decision in respect of the outcome of a ‘judicial committee’ then why is the alleged ‘wrongdoer’ given 7 days to appeal? Did God make a mistake?

  the "7 trumpets of Revelation chapters 8 - 11" were 7 talks given at Bible Student conventions in the 1920s.

  As I recall, all in a different order to scripture.

  The idea that a random bit of Revelation refers to some drunken old narcissist Yank gobbing off like a raving looney, in a forest is risible at the very least.

  This is the Watchtower's(tm) rules. Why should you play by THEIR rules? Once you start talking of DA etc, you're immediately talking like a fully robotised JW.

  what are they going to be like when they realise not only jdubs don’t want to go to in person meetings but they really don’t want to go back on the min.

  zoom has so much more appeal for rather than meetings or door to door.

  a lot of my ex fellow servants must be now in their seventies, what can you do?.

  no children no money no home.

  it is so sad.. so many decided not to have children as the end was right around the corner and that was decades ago.
