operated by the public records office in london, the site contains the names and addresses of over 38 million persons who were registered during the 1901 national census of england and wales, and provides a useful start to the back-tracking so loved by geneologists.. heres how it works.

Fear and pain and death...

do you fear death?if so,do you fear it because of the pain that is likely to go along with it?or because of what will become of your soul(your self)after death?.

curiosly,i find that i no longer fear death.not that i want to die-i don't.but i wonder if this how i should feel.. i don't like pain,but i have a fairly high threshold of pain,i think.i'm sure there is much greater pain than what i have experienced,but though i avoid it when at all possible(including spankings...sorry chat babes),i'm not afraid that i can't deal with it if i have to.. likewise death,i just have no great fear of it anymore.i don't think that it's due to my beliefs about what will happen after i die...i don't have any.sure,i was raised a j.w.,instilled from birth with the idea that if i didn't survive armageddon,that i'd be resurrected thereafter.but i don't buy that anymore...neccesarily.nor do i believe in the heaven or hell concept...neccesarily.i do believe that if i'm the best kind of person i can be,then it will have to be good enough for whatever,if anything,lies beyond the life i'm living now.. in talking to others,though,i find very few(if any)people who don't have a pretty high degree of fear about death.it has me wondering,and i'd appreciate your comments.. cowboy.

As an adendum to my earlier post, I would like to add that after working in a hospice for two years, it was much harder watching others die than to face the possibility of my own death.

I did this work not long after leaving the tower whilst I was studying two subjects at once. I did the graveyard shifts; in other words I sat "with" the dying for many hours in the middle of the night.

This is where I learned not to fear death. But I have learnt that to lose loved one's and family is a frightening prospect.

As Tina and others have said, I would not wish to have a medical condition that left me powerless. I put a fair amount of research into this and read a book called "Final Exit".

Whilst I am not here trying to start a euthanasia thread, I do feel we each have the right to choose our own dignified way of dying.

I would recommend the books of Elizabeth Kubler-Ross to any intrested in the subject of death and dying. You will certainly find that you are not alone in your feelings. It is NOT morbid writing either. This woman has it all summed up in plain English (sorry, USA) and easy to read for all. Her sense of humor and empathy are a tribute to a woman who really cared about people.

Can You Believe It? It's snowing in Victoria!

yes folks, while new south wales swelters in 40 degree plus heat and some of the worst bush fires on record, it's actually snowing on the victorian alps!

news clips on tonight's tv news show kids having snow ball fights and making snowmen.

this is sure strange weather at the moment.
