when i think back to being in the wtbts i can vividly remember the elders and their weilding of power.. as an adult, and in hindsight, i can now look back in total distaste and disgust at the power and control these men exercised over our lives with 'apparent' enjoyment.. i would like any former or current elders to explain the actual feelings you had when exercising this control.. was it exhilirating?
or was it painful?.

I wrote this to Seeker, but will also repeat it to you....my post was not a "get elders" post.....much deeper than that.
I wanted to hear from all people, but elders in particular as they also were mind controlled into believing that that was the path they had to strive for......that is where I was hoping this post would head to as we do concentrate on the negative issues and elders are often bagged too much when in fact they were also victims.

Yes, you are right, there were "some" good ones.....but not many in my experience.
Pity you weren't around on the committee I was dragged before
I also appreciate the fact that males in the WTBTS were expected to move towards becoming an elder....to a degree you have brought out the issue of even 'men' being subjected to extreme mind manipulation.

What you experienced when you went into the world and was appreciated was the REAL Tina....the one who was made to feel less of a human being was not the real warm person that you are. [:0]
Yes, women were so put down...extremely intellectually stimulating women....and children....what happened and is happening to them is a travesty.
Men in these positions with no idea of the human psyche are and were dangers to humanity.

folks, i know some of you feel a little peeved with the old h2o but i don't think you have been fair to the new one.
there is and will be a different attitude there and i have been assured of this by both rick and fd2.

I can understand where you are coming from but sometimes it can feel that "we" are just taking on old roles of being preachy.
Not only that, but if we post to as many boards as we possibly can it will become our life's work.
Many of us have jobs and familys to care for; we are not "all" healed ourselves.
I think that is what MD was trying to express; some of us do not feel we wish to become almost another religion in our own right.
You are correct about the internet being wonderful....but I did not have the internet when I came out as neither did many others.
At the end of the day it is up to ourselves as individuals. Once you turn off the puter....you're alone.
Base-line, Jan...that's the truth.

You are SO right in all you have said. I too could count many stories where I had witnessed elders discussing "cases" like they were high court judges.
I understand fully the titillation aspect....I was on the end of that, but that is another matter.
Elders and those in "rank", as you say, do NOT hide the fact of not liking a family....in fact they seemed to enjoy their active showing of dislike....very sad.
I really think that part of me wishes to know what kind of personality makeup it takes to make an elder in the first place.
I have met some really great ex-elders....and some not so great ex-elders, so I guess it is like the rest of the world; a mixed bag.
I hope your family are not too distressed by this PO Orange.

Thankyou both for your input. Bug, I think you are right about some elders feeling different than others, but from a womans perspective BugEW, you have described it as "fear"
This is probably how we as females perceived the elders.....and how we were treated. Fear was a major component of how "we" reacted towards the elders.
BEW....what do you think of the subjection issue...you know, "women be in subjection to your husbands"?
Bug....how do you view that in relation to yourself as a man?

I believe that any good relationship has two partners that will "naturally" listen to each other. Therefore, there is no need to put either partner in control of the other.
